Would anyone else be interested if there was voice acting in future games in the Ace Attorney series? The short snippets of "Objection!" and such are well done and give off more personality that builds on the sprites and dialogue. There are DS games with voice acting such as the Layton series, which has voices during key points in the game and during cutscenes, and I think it would be a great fit to the Ace Attorney series as well if done right.

So, if anyone agrees, please help promote my suggestion titled 'Voice Acting in Ace Attorney':

The idea's been passed around before, and to be honest I'm not too keen on it myself. I don't think the games need it, and with so much dialogue to record, it would take much longer to localize the games. It would pretty much guarantee that Europe never gets another AA in French, German, etc.

Plus imagine if they gave Phoenix a bad voice. In an action game, if the lead character has a crappy voice at least you only have to listen to it during cutscenes--Phoenix spends the whole game talking. The potential for ear-bleeding is dangerously large. I'm not sure how you would limit that to "cut scenes" the way Layton does it since AA doesn't have that kind of separation (unless they start adding in anime bits too!).

But the voices they use for the TGS specials are professionals and sound great to me, so...if THOSE voices were used I wouldn't object. I just worry about what that extra effort would mean for the game's turnaround, localization wise.

Croik has the key points. I'll add that I usually play games with captions on so I can skip the voice acting or turn it off.

It's not as bad as it was back in the early nineties, when game studios often had the programmers do the voice clips (I'm not kidding here, this is how some of the Sierra games were done). But it's still generally pretty dubious. It would also likely result in serious cutbacks in dialogue.

The series is already using voice-acting, anyway. It's using voice-acting in the same way that Warcraft II and Baldur's Gate II used it best - short, punchy sound bites.

Agreed for all of those points. You are also forgetting that Capcom would definitely halt GS5 and remake GS1-4 with the narrations. I would be complaining then.

I agree with these points totally. The only thing I'd have to mention is I wouldn't be adverse to a fan-dub, just for fun. It might be funny actually I've never seen a fan dubbed game but I'm sure it would be amusing.

XD Yeah, I mentioned this before. I just want them to say some phrases they commonly use, that's all, just like in Trauma Center 2. I think it won't be too difficult to get the same voice actors out to do this, and they won't need to say the whole dialogue either.

No, I like the way the only voices you hear is when they object and that.

I don't like the way they have speaking in Professor Layton, the voices are extremely irritating, and I'd like to slap the voice actors silly. I know I'd get fed up with the voices they'd use for each AA character. Voices in video games always annoy me(except AA ones, because it's only the one word you hear).

I'm also a fast reader, so I'd have the sentence read before the actor's finished saying it, so depending on how Capcom would do it, I'd either be stuck waiting for the actors to finish talking, or I'd have to listen to half-finished sentences, which would wreck my ears. Or else I'd have to turn the sound down, and not listen to the music.

And anyway, I love the beeping noises the characters make when they talk. XD

But I seriously doubt they'd ever get voice actors for this game. It'd be fairly expensive, I'd imagine, and it just wouldn't suit the game's style.

I don't think there should be voice acting either. I feel like it would lose its 'visual novel' feel, since playing this series is supposed to be like reading a book. I'd keep it the way it is imo.

Funny you mention that, since the people that do the "Objection!" voice clips in AA are all Capcom employees rather than voice actors. So you couldn't get those same voices to do an entire AA game of acting (I mean, Ben Judd is fabulous, but I don't know about his acting skills).

It could be like in Time Hollow (blergh) and Professor Layton where there are specific cutscenes with voice actors.
