Lida smiled slightly as she let go.
"I don't think I've ever been bullied myself, but I've always hated them," she said. "I remember one time standing up to one. He never bothered me or my friend again. Don't think I've encountered a bully since." She laughed a little. "I've always been a bit of an outcast myself. Only I hide it so well. Nobody asks me about my personal life, so I never tell them anything about it." She looked serious for a second. "You're right. Lying does nothing for your benefit." She laughed. "If I was in a serious relationship with someone and they lied over little things, how would I know they wouldn't lie over the big things? Hm?" She lightly nudged Satoshi.
"Okay. Consider this forgotten," Lida said with a smile. She grabbed Satoshi's hand and began walking. "See that?" She pointed at a stream of water in the sky. "That's where the fountain is."

Satoshi looked. "Ah right. I have a feeling that I'll like this." Satoshi grabbed her hand, but not hard enough to hurt, and grinned. "This friendly outing's been fun. It'll be sad to see it end soon." He then sighed. "What are the chances of us seeing eachother again?"

"Well, okay. You're going to regret it because this'll be a while," Lida said. "Statistically speaking, there are 6 billion people in the world, all distributed around the globe. Now, we live in the same country, so we can assume that we've narrowed it down already to 1 in a billion. We also live in the same state, so that drops us to 1 in a few thousand. So, I'd say that we have a pretty good chance. About one in, oh...25,000." She smiled. "Looks like math is somewhat on our side." She laughed. "Everybody lies at some point." She then got a deep-in-thought look. "But the worst kind of lies are the ones that you believe yourself."
"I'll bet you 10 dollars that I'll like it!" Satoshi said, followed by a laugh.
"I would take you up on that, but I don't want to give you 10 dollars," Lida responded before joining in on the laughter.

Satoshi started to cry with laughter. "You're confident. And good to know that we'll probably meet again!" But then he turned as serious as he could, which wasn't serious at all considering that he had tears of laughter down his face. "But there's still a chance we won't meet again. And we're close friends it seems, so it'd be a shame to never see eachother again." Then they turned the corner to see the water fountain.

Lida stopped laughing at the thought of not seeing Satoshi again, but when they rounded the corner, the sight of the fountain took her breath away. The white light shooting straight up into the sky with a bunch of little streams of the light connecting to it looked absolutely wonderful.

"Oh, here comes the best part," she said. Suddenly, the white light began flickering to reds and oranges and purples, alternating between the three. "Beautiful, isn't it?"

Speechless. That's what Satoshi was. He had never seen anything so beautiful. Not even Lida could compare to it. Satoshi cxould only nod slowly to what Lida was saying, he was that awe-struck. And then the best part stopped.

Satoshi turned to look at Lida and stared into her eyes.

"That was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. Thank you."

"You're welcome," she said. "I'd stare at this fountain for hours whenever I needed an escape." She brushed her hair out of her eyes and looked down at her wrist, blushing in embarrassment when she realized she wasn't wearing her watch. That's right. It broke, so I left it at home...

"Before you go, I'll give you my phone number. Just in case we don't meet again..." Satoshi dug his hand deep into one of his pockets and took out an increadibly scrumpled piece of paper. He unscrumpled it and found that it was one of his old drawings. He did once plan on being an artist, but his low self esteem made him decide not to be. He scribbled it down. "Ignore the crap drawing, and just look at the number. See you." He handed it to Lida, and didn't know what to do next.

Laughing, Bry pushed Chase into a more comfortable position on her bed before pulling the covers over him. She padded to the sitting room, deciding that she was too tired to get dressed. She lay on the sofa, tossing and turning in an attempt to get comfortable before giving up, pushing herself upright. Sighing, she stood up and crept back to her bedroom, slipping into the bed as quietly as she could before falling asleep with a contented sigh curled against Chase's side.

When Satoshi told her to ignore the crap drawing on the sheet of paper, Lida had to look. She smiled with adoration on her face.
"You think this is a crap drawing?" she asked, barely holding back a chuckle. "This is a crap drawing." She pulled out a piece of paper, drew something on it, and put a little arrow beside it with the word "Poo" written on it. She then laughed as she handed him the piece of paper, but not before writing her number on it. It was then she realized she wasn't sure what to do, either. She didn't want to leave like that, but she was getting pressed for time... "Uh..." It was then her phone rang.
"Ben? ...What do you mean 'no?' You're talking from his phone! Why are you...? No! Are you serious?! You can't mean...He can't be...I understand..." Lida sighed. "I'll be over in a bit, okay? This is a lot to take in...Thanks for calling." She hung up and just plopped down, burying her face in her hands. She hoped Satoshi would just walk away. She wished everyone would just disappear right then.

Satoshi accepted the number. "Thanks." Suddenly, after answering a phone call, Lida bent down and started to cry. Satoshi didn't know what to do. Should I help her? But how can I help? He bent down next to her. "You ok? Do you need something to drink, a hankerchief, uhm, uhm, I dunno how to help..." Satoshi realised. He'd have to do the scariest thing possible...

...Hug her.

He slowly put his arms around her. "If there's anything I can do for you, I'll do it." His arms finally completely engulfed her. He was cuddling someone. One of his biggest fears, and he conquered it. He must have like Lida to gain this confidence.

Lida just sat, shaking her head for a minute, not wanting to say a word. She didn't trust her voice.
"I-...I just..." she started. Lida choked back her sobs and cleared her throat. "I...Was just told..." She averted her eyes. "And now..." Lida cleared her throat again. "Th-thank you, but..." She didn't know what else to say. She wanted to say so much, but words wouldn't come. Finally, she cleared her throat a third time. "I just...Want to collect myself a little, okay? You can stay or go...Whichever you'd prefer..."

But before he did, he handed Lida a hankerchief. "Don't worry, you don't need to tell me what's wrong. It's none of my business." He then fiddled around wiht his fingers on the bench; not sure what to do.

Lida accepted the handkerchief without a word as she sat, sobbing. Finally, she sighed and got up.
"Thanks, Satoshi," she said. "Um...Sorry..." She wasn't sure what she was apologizing for. There were several reasons she could think of that were probably really ridiculous to voice. "For ruining your night." She swayed a little, finally handing Satoshi back the handkerchief. "Horrible as it is, sitting around and moping won't help anyone." She stood still a little longer before finally deciding to say a little bit of what was happening. "I've...Been asked to identify a body, so I need to go to the morgue." Lida stood for another second, then turned and started walking away.

Satoshi waited five minutes and then walked back to his apartment. It was rotten, with rubbish everywhere, and a stinky smell. "...I swear I cleaned it earlier. Whatever." He sat down and started to sob. "I can't believe what's happened to her. If it's who I think it is, then..."

Lida walked over to the morgue, stopping short as soon as she was outside of it. Her instincts were telling her it was definitely him that they found, that they hadn't mistaken the body...what condition would he be in? She took a deep breath and walked inside.

((Here's an idea. Why don't we have Lida X Satoshi but Knight has a crush on Satoshi or something? Or at least if someone else doesn't sign up. I'd like to do this for the lulz. The bets part is that Satoshi may only realise one side, and neither girl knows each other.))

The Undertaker nodded at her, and pulled down the cloth. There was a very battered and bruised face that looked upset. Obviously, the Undertaker thought it was a family member of her's, but he didn't know for a fact. There was a possibility of it being someone else. He hoped it was. He hated things like this happening. "My condolences, if it's a relative."

"Th-thank you," Lida stuttered. She then cleared her throat. "My brother..." She already felt tears welling up mentioning him. "They...The police called me from his phone to inform me that I needed to come here and verify that the body is his..." She blinked back her tears and shook her head to clear it, then looked the Undertaker in the eye. "I'm ready to see him. Caucasian, around 25, long, brown hair, 6'5..." She breathed sharply and shook a moment. How could she describe her own brother like that? Just by appearance? But his personality wouldn't help the Undertaker know who she was talking about. It was then she pulled out her wallet and showed the man a picture of her brother. "Someone who looks like this..."

This time he pulled the sheet down to show Lida. There was her brother. In the flesh. There were scars all over his body and his face showed regret. He looked as if he didn't want to die. Not yet. He also looked as if he went through a blender twice, had his face ripped off by a cat's claws and dropped off a skyscraper. All in all, he looked severely battered and bruised.

"Th-the brakes and speedometer were broken?" Lida asked even more shakily. "But he always takes good care of his car. He just told me he got brand new brakes..." She pulled out a tissue and dabbed at her eyes with it. "I just...I just don't understand..." Her phone rang. "Ugh..." She answered it. "Hello? ...Look, can't I just wait a second, I just... Yes, I understand, but... No, an escort won't be necessary." Lida sighed, rubbing her temples. "I'll be there in ten minutes, now stop calling from this number, please..." Lida feebly tucked the phone back into her purse. "You leaving won't be necessary...I gotta go." Lida pulled herself back up and started walking briskly out of the building, pulling out Satoshi's number and dialing it. I hope he answers...

Chase awoke the next morning in a daze.

W...Where am I? he thought groggily, his eyes barely opening. He rubbed his eyes and looked around the room. Of course, the first thing he noticed was Bry at his side, and his memory came back quickly.

After a long yawn, he sat up carefully and scratched his head, his eyes still closed and trying to hold on to his dream for a little longer.

While on one of the bosses in Sonic, the Super Mario Overworld theme played. Satoshi paused the game and looked at his phone. Who could it be? Could it be Lida? Or is my sister wanting to brag about something to me again? Maybe my parents want to rant at me. Should I answer? Yes. There's a possibillity it's Lida. maybe she has good news. Maybe she has bad. Maybe I shouldn't answer. No, that'd be rude to the caller. I'll take the risk. Satoshi picked up the phone, and saw a number he recognised, but couldn't quite remember who it belonged to. He answered it. "Hello?"

Lida beamed at hearing Satoshi's voice in the phone. She didn't know why, but it comforted her to hear it.
"Hello, Satoshi. This is Lida," she said, but then she started to lose her nerve. Should she tell him? Yes. Would she? Er...Depends. "Is that the Super Mario Overworld theme? Wow, I haven't heard that in a while." Lida froze to the spot. The last time she heard it was when her brother had been playing the game and she had been watching. How long ago was that? Lida bit her lip. "M-maybe I should call back later..." The words were out of her mouth before she could stop them. Lida then literally held her breath. She wouldn't say more without giving him the chance to speak.

Lida bowed her head. Should she tell him anything? He seemed so concerned. Lida sighed, deciding to just lay all her cards on the table and see what happened. She took a deep breath.
"By your tone, you probably guessed this, but my brother was the one I had to identify. He...crashed into a hotel, at a really fast speed. His speedometer and brakes weren't working, but he always took good care of his cars. The police suspect a homicide, so I'm going to the police station for questioning since I was the last person to see him alive..." Tears welled in Lida's eyes. "I just don't understand. My brother never made any enemies. He was just a writer for crying out loud!" She shook a bit, then sighed. "Sorry for my outburst. Anyway, I am currently walking towards the station."

Suddenly, he realised what to say and a burst of confidencekicked in. "...I'll bring the murderer to justice. I'll pass my next exam, become a judge and take the case. We can't have this. Look, if you ever need comfort, call me. I'll help. This person will be brought to justice. I can't leave things like this. Please Lida, just try and fight through this. You can do it! I trust the police, and so should you. ..Uhm, please?"

Lida was listening carefully to what Satoshi said. He would help however he could, she knew that, and she was focusing on the confidence of his voice. Her pace became brisker. And then Satoshi added, "Uhm, please?" and Lida burst out laughing, certain if anyone was nearby, they would think she was crazy.
"Haha...Ah, don't worry about me, Satosh. Er...I could call you that, right? Haha, I come up with nicknames for everyone close to me, so..." Lida cleared her throat. "I will tell the police everything I know. Maybe even investigate a little myself. Who knows?"

"Like I said, if you need help, call me. Or meet me somewhere. Once the questioning's finished, call me. I want to know how it went. Uhm, what else is there for me to say? Oh, condolences. And justice shall, uhm, be brought. And I've lost all my confidence I think.." Satoshi wiped his eyes, because he had started to cry again.

"S-Satosh, there's no need to cry," Lida stuttered. "Er...like I'm one to talk, but still..." She wasn't sure what to say, but she forced a smile in the street, even though she knew Satoshi couldn't see it. "The biggest way you can help is to look after yourself, okay? No fair doing anything that'll hurt you." Lida then froze yet again, caught up in one thought: Your relationship with him is what's hurting him. She felt a twinge of guilt, but decided to keep that thought to herself. She wasn't going to voice something like that over the phone...

"Are you sure? Because I really want to help, but this is so saddening. I will help somehow. You must let me. *sniff* I'm not important right now. Nothing but you and this case is important right now. Screw climate change. Screw recession. This is what's REALLY important," Satoshi tried his best to describe his feeling,s, but he was doing a bad job of it. I know that I must help. I know I can help. Lida cheered me up, and made my sad life worth living. I need to make things up for her. I may same mad because of this, but I'm not. I'm just believing in what is right.
