Just finished the demo, I have to say it felt like it was made by Capcom. :keiko: Great job. Few comments.
Spoiler:
- Aside from the opening, everyone is in character, it was amazing to see how true they were. especially Meekins. Apollo was a bit off in some places (Beginning *ah-hem*) but aside you nailed him.

-Your new characters, masterpieces. Fisher was so angry and disgruntled, I loved him. The hypocrisy was hilarious. Strings was also great... if not confusing at times. He was like a likable Oldbag with his mythology reference which I loved. Rhea was a tad underwhelming but still likable. With Maya and Trucy as assistants I expected something a little more crazy, but she was still great. I loved the line that went something like "And I hate Canadian accents". As a Canadian I laughed so hard my mom yelled from the basement "Shut up". Poole and Gerald were nice characters as well. Not insanely impressive like Fisher or Strings, but good. One suggestion, instead of saying G. Strings, why not just use Gerald?

-The music was good. It was quite quiet and didn't really go with the 32-bit music AA uses, but the songs where still good.

-The whole Fisher is his twin brother came out of nowhere, I expected Poole to at least object.

-The sprites were great, minus for a few issues.
-With Udgey, why did you use his court sprites for the investigation and new ones for court. I hope you change that for Demo 3.
- Fisher's mouth was a tad annoying, a bit too big, but I learned to except it.
- Rhea was a tad dull, but the revamp fixed that. Aside, good sprite. At least in the mind of someone who can't sprite woman at all.
- Poole was too... PW-ish. You have a ton of sprites in AJ style and then she pops up. Aside a decent sprite, as far as I can tell without my glasses.
- Gerald had one fault, the orange from the chair taking the place of some of his robe.
- Lastly Strings was simply flawless. Ceres deserves a thousand ego rubs for that sprite alone.

-While I like the opening court gag, I felt at the end it went on a bit too long.

As said before, great case. I eagerly await demo 3.

If Strings gets animated in Demo 3 then Ceres deserves 10X the amount of ego rubs for it. Actually, I just thought of another error. I don't know if anyone else has encountered this but when I am in the Prison cell and examine the gun, I don't even click it so it examines however it jumps straight to examining it anyway. It's probably my laptop's keypad being too sensitive so *shrugs*

I just got the pun, when you said there was one. I see your point.

Not saying to change it. It fits the characters great. Just a tad out of place, but I wouldn't expect you to come up with 100% brand new music, it is hard.

-The whole Fisher is his twin brother came out of nowhere, I expected Poole to at least object.
> I see your point. Still, I wouldn't say it "came out of nowhere". For proof of that, some players had actually predicted it before the second demo was released.

But as Edgeworth would say(not in exact words)= "Without evidence it is only, conjecture." As someone aspiring to be a prosecutor that is true in my mind.

Happy New Year, everyone !

As you know, 2010 is the year you will finally get to play Turnabout Substitution in its entirety.

Let's hope that by 2011, this topic will be flooding with messages ^^

In any case, the detailed script of trial day 2 is taking a bit longer than expected. Not because I have writer's block... but because I have many ideas, and keep making it longer and longer.

Ergh, I know what you mean with that. You get an idea and suddenly, all these other ideas come crashing down and you have to add them all in. It's like deciding what characters are going to be in the case...if that makes sense.

~ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ~

Turnabout Substitution is now recruiting coders to transform threatre-like dialogue (with all the useful gameplay annotations, so no imaginative skills are needed) into PyWright scripts.
I could do it myself - after all, I already have for the first two parts - but it is a long effort that requires more time than it does thinking, and I certainly won't have this kind of time before months. By trusting competent coders to make this effort, then personally going over everything they've done to make sure it corresponds to what I asked, and finally getting several specialized beta testers to test it, I would significantly speed up the process of completing this game while enhancing the quality and solidity of its programming. Notably, if clivo100 does his part (which I'm sure he will) a February release of demo 3 would be entirely conceivable within this scenario. Basically, there are only pros, and no cons.

I'm not looking for any kind of people, though.
The candidates need to have:
* Time. THE number one condition.
* Demonstrated previous experience with PyWright.
* Demonstrated competence with PyWright.
* The ability to work fast within a schedule...
* ...coupled with perfectionism.
* Full commitment to the project. A "yes" means "yes, not "maybe".

To propose yourself for the task, please post in this topic.
At least 2, but no more than 4, candidates will be recruited.
They will receive detailed documents telling them what is expected of them. If you have any questions now, though, don't hesitate to ask here.
All coders will be credited as co-scripters for their contributions, and given special access to a Turnabout Substitution forum reserved for team members.

Thank you for reading this message, and for those who will try: good luck!

Ladies and gentlemen,
I am proud to announce I have now finished the detailed script of the whole game! So detailed, in fact, I pretty much wrote the entire dialogue, even though I don't like it as it is.
I have never written so much in so little time (more than 50 Word pages in one month, in between many other things), even in French.

Now everything is in the hands of the dialogue writers.
Bad Player is doing an astonishing job so far. Trial day 2 is exceeding even my own expectations.
Haven't heard from clivo100 since the New Year, but I'm sure he won't disappoint either.

A bit of both. Sometimes it's a summary, sometimes it's "A says this, B replies that, X does this", and sometimes it's the actual dialogue. BP, YggdrasilsSword and clivo100 will confirm that my detailed scripts are... very strange documents, indeed.

Just bumping dropping in, I've read that some of you were asking about animations.

A lot of the custom characters (if not all) were revamped and animated, which of course now includes multiple expressions.

You're in for a treat when the next part arrives~

Progress update!

- The dialogue of the last day of trial is now 100% complete thanks to Bad Player.
Yes, you've heard me right, 100% complete.
That obviously brings us much closer to the final release.
- Turnabout Substitution now has a proper introduction scene.
- We're making quick progress with the sprites, animations, evidence and backgrounds.

Progress update ! (again)

- The level of completion of the full game's dialogue is now estimated to be more than 90%.
- The actual programming of the third demo has started. Several people are working on it at the same time, making progress much faster.
- For the first time, I feel like I can officially announce estimates for a release date.

Expect demo 3 in February at best, March at worst.
The full game is due to a Spring 2010 release (late March to early June, April being the most likely scenario).

I'm still being cautious with this, because there are still a number of question marks in certain areas of the game, and I wouldn't want to make falses promises.
But if there's one game you can expect to play soon, it's this one.
Look forward to it!

Demo 3 and the final release won't change the first half at all in terms of plot, and there will only be small adjustments here and there in the dialogue. The graphics, however, will improve considerably.
You certainly won't have to play through everything again. You can if you want to, but it's not like the next releases won't make any sense if you don't.

Now, I have some good news.
The dialogue of the full game is now 100% complete.

To give you an idea of the amount of work involved, the dialogue of the game's second half (second day of investigation + second day of trial) is
125 pages long in Word.
But it's not just long: it's great - it turned out even better than what I had in mind.
Even as a read, I find it fantastic. Imagine what it'll be like when you play it...

So I really think Bad Player (and YggdrasilsSword, too) deserve congratulations for this !
(I already got mine when I finished the detailed script :p)

Thanks to them, the game's release date won't depend on whether one of us has writer's block.
It'll only depend on the coders and graphic artists' hard work. (Which, believe me, is still a lot.)

Excellent news, it shows great commitment that you and your team are still at this after all this time. And after the cliffhanger (sort of) ending we got last time I can tell we're in for a treat.

Also, any chance of some samples of the revamps/new animations? That would really wet my appetite.

Thanks :)
If we're still at it, it's because we think it'll be worth it.

I recall Ceres saying he actually wanted to show these sprites, so there you go.

Presenting things would have been the logical thing to do, had PyWright given me the option. It was there the second time I booted the game.

Spoiler:
Stuck again. I've been to the Chief Justice's Office, Rhea's Office, the Police Department, talked to everyone except the Cheif Justice, found the blackmail phone call, presented everything to everyone, checked everything. Nothing is moving forward.

Ah, I see. That's strange.

Regarding your problem...

Spoiler:
Go back to the Chief Justice's office, and talk to the Chief Justice. He said he wanted to have a word with you, remember?

If you remember Ping' or check near the bottom of Page 9, I posted nearly the exact same thing.

I have had an annoying error, specifically with Turnabout Substitution where the Present button when you have gone into Present doesn't appear. Save also crashes but for some reason, the next play has it. It only seems to happen when I first start a game then save. Random huh?

Was it the same scene? The one with Ema?

Yeah. The error occurred in the Siamese Cell though after it disappeared there, it never came back anywhere else until I started all over again.
