This is a preview of the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom artbook that will be released soon.

http://www.capcom.co.jp/blog/vs/img_upload/file01.jpg

Phoenix is clearly visible here. Maybe it's not much, but it shows he was seriously considered, and it's interesting to get a glimpse of what could have been (or maybe what could be?)

They had concept art for him and everything! He was ready! I wish they would've kept him in the end. The special attack didn't have to be all the individual characters whacking the opponent. Well, there's always hope for him in a sequel.

Speaking of which, Franny was considered too, wasn't she? I wonder if there will be concept art of her.

Woah, they didn't just consider him, they actually WORKED with him for some time... I wonder if they have some 3D models...
Now, couldn't they have the bubbles divided into "I-Gia-Ri" (I think "a" is a separate character) and "Ob-jec-tion"? Or, if they had too many problems, just not include that.

Anyway, with this, we can be confident that we will see Feenie fighting some day, sooner or later.

Having recently played the Japanese version of this game, and not being all that impressed - largely because I don't know who at least half the characters are, but also because it really does feel like the Wii gets the shit end of the stick compared to the PS3 and 360 getting SFIV - Phoenix's appearance would have taken my excitement for the western release up several notches.

Here we go. He seems to have some kind of beam in one attack, and he's in a karate pose with something white in his hand in the second. A Wiimote maybe?

In the third it looks like he's crouching or something...

I think it's safe to say that isn't Phoenix. It seems like it could be Chun-Li, but a lot of people also think it's Ingrid (from the unreleased Capcom Fighting All-Stars), who wasn't / isn't in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

It IS Phoenix. I mean, there's just no way to mistake him for another character. Besides, there's the Kurae! catchphrase just besides him, proof that it is Phoenix alright. :phoenix:

Trust me, that is Phoenix. According to wikipedia, Phoenix and Franziska was both concidered characters for the game, but didn't make it in the end. Though I personally think it'd be really cool if they were playable. Also, Ingrid was a playable character in Capcom fighting jam.

I think Sir Ilpalazzo means the blue character in the concept "screenshots" by Phoenix's body aren't Phoenix. I doubt if that is Phoenix too.
Now, the yellow sheet by Phoenix body certainly is him.

Yes, I meant the character in the screenshots that akiak was referring to. The art is obviously of Phoenix, but the character in the screenshots is obviously not (notice that that character doesn't even have the right colors to be him).

Hum... you're right, it looks like he hasn't got one... but it's really hard to say, especially since the badge in itself is kinda small. :yogi:
And I doubt the developers actually forgot to put it, even though it was just Concept Art...

The attack could have been done like this - I-gi-a-ri!, which could have been translated to Ob-jec-tion-!

Sprite edits happen all the time.

Oh well, maybe for Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2. :yogi:

Or just "I-gia-ri!" and "Ob-jec-tion!". That's how I pronounce them most of the time, and the "!" can hardly stand alone.

Man, I seriously wish they put him in. Can't they think of another special attack? Maybe a deadly finger-point, yeah! Come on! I've seen him whack enemies with it in fan videos! *thinks of Godot's coffee grenades, too*

*gasp* Is he not wearing his badge?!

My friend and I were discussing this the other day, having read about Phoenix's also not being included because of lack of attacks, came up with a list of such:

A) Naturally, he objects, sending a damaging speech balloon.

B) He objects, poking someone's eyes out with his finger.

C) He chucks his attorney's badge at someone.

D) He calls a random supporting character from the series, such as Franziska and her whip, Edgey and his glare, Apollo and his hoarse voice/horns, Larry and nothing, etc.

E) He initiates a poker game, coming up with a royal flush as opposed to his opponent's pair. The opponent is damaged by monetary loss.

F) He gives a damaging guilty verdict.

And other random, pointless attacks along those lines.

Dont forget:

G) Whacks someone with a stepladder (Or is it a ladder :eh?: )

H) He yells hold it! The foe is paralyzed for 4 secs!

I)He headbutss them, backwards, so the spiky hair penetrates through their puny flesh >:3

Or he could actually fight. You know, punch and shit. Like the rest of the characters.

But some of those aren't bad ideas for specials. The Guilty veredict could be the 3-level-special. His 1-level-specials could be "Hold It!" (freezes enemy) and "Objection!", which attacks the enemy by throwing letters at it. They can balance that in a Japanese game, if they are willing to be creative...

I came up with some more.

G) He bonks someone on the head with one of those law tomes.

H) He summons a flood of rabid PhoenixxEdgeworth shippers/fangirls.

I) He employs Pearls' version of E. Honda's Hundred-Hand Slap.

This could actually be a whole 'nother topic by itself, "Attacks for Ace Attorney Characters in fighting games"...

I think they should have included him. THE FANS DEMAND PHOENIX.

Or, I have been struck with a deviously awesome idea.
They should make a video game with the Phoenix Wright characters dressed in over-the-top Final Fantasy style clothing, give them weapons, and have them battle it out, like the homemade Soul Calibur characters in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcmSwvyaUQU

But that's absolutely off topic.... :payne:

I just found out Marvel VS Capcom 3 is in development! There should be a roster of about 30 characters, and if the ratio of characters is split evenly, that means Phoenix has about a 1/15 chance of appearing! Let's hope for the best!

This entire thread is of great amusement. I can understand Franziska being considered for a role, as she is armed and dangerous, but Phoenix? Will he reverse skewer people with his hair? Or will he simply win just by token of his luck? I can see him summoning Lady Luck to his side and wisking him off to victory - with just a sprained ankle.... Admittedly Apollo's horns and Chords of Steel might be more effective. And even Ema's MUNCHES of doom will be quite the ... c-c-c-combo breaker!! *shot*

T_____T

I'm sorry, this is a serious discussion, please continue....
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn?
