This is the official AAI Countdown thread for case 3-5, Bridge To The Turnabout. Use this thread to chat about the case and its characters, any pairings you drew from it, tell us when the last time you played it was and if your feelings about it have changed, etc.

This is just for fun so if you're not following the countdown exactly or at all you're still very welcome to post.

Not a huge fan of this one either, but as with before, it's one of the better cases in the game. The best part about it was playing as Edgeworth at the beginning, but I was really looking forward to watching him and Godot face off in court (which, of course, never happened :sadshoe:). At any rate, I was glad that Misty Fey's story was resolved, even if it was in such a tragic manner.

My other favorite part of this case was Franziska following Phoenix around for a while, because it decisively showed that she had softened up at least a little, which made me like her a lot more.

On a final note, Godot's character is redeemed in my eyes at least somewhat by his confession and penance at the end.

While the case brought on some epic moments, as a whole it just kinda lacked the epic, panicky feeling that cases like 2-4 and 1-5 had.

Edgeworth vs. Franziska? Awesome
Dahlia finally getting what she deserves? Double Awesome

Overall though... I think it could have been better.

My favorite case.
I was a little disappointed when I heard that Godot wouldn't be facing off Edgeworth (FUUUUU-!) but I was alright with Franziska vs. Edgeworth since they had the little rivalry thing. I couldn't get over the fact that Phoenix tried to cross a burning bridge (A burning bridge! Seriously!) This case had some clever tricks which got me to drop my jaw multiple times.
When Mia pwned Dahlia like that...I was like yay. :godot:

Such a disappointing and disatisfying way to end a trilogy. Compared to the other final cases, this was "walk in a park" difficulty. I have more complaints but I don't want to hog the criticisms.

Easily the best case of the game. It tied the other cases together, you got to play as Edgey, the best breakdown of the whole series :fire: (that part had you thinking you reached the end, then Godot throws an objection and continues it), and of course it gave people an alternate Phoenix pairing :godot: .
Mia's beatdown of Dahlia was epic (some would say it was the only time she was really helpfull :/ ). Godot saying his real name wasn't as good though since they pretty much gave it away with case 4, but his breakdown made up for it.

Wish it hadn't been the last case with Phoenix though :sadshoe:

It's a good way to end the trilogy, but it borrowed too much from 2-4, with the whole "Maya gets stuck in a cave/kidnapped by an assassin" thing.

The best part? Playing as Edgeworth with Franziska as the prosecutor. I love the interactions between the two and I prefer Edgeworth as a protagonist over Phoenix, honestly. Plus, cross-examining Bikini was fun since she was different from the other witnesses and I prefer the judge's brother over the "usual" judge. So the first trial and the tearjerking ending make up more than enough for the bad parts. Oh, and I also like the setting... Snow. :edgy:

I thought it was a good move to end the PW trilogy with this case because it had a "happily ever after" feel to it. Gumshoe got a new coat girlfriend, Edgeworth most likely continued to study in Europe (the same goes for Franziska I guess), Phoenix surpassed Mia as a lawyer, Godot finally gets some rest and Maya became the new Kurain leader. It also tied up all the loose ends of the trilogy. It's a shame that AJ sort of ruined the whole thing by having Phoenix losing his badge two months after this case.

My final verdict: 8/10 and the second best case in T&T.

Probably my favourite case ever, although I only played it twice..

Apart from Iris being an irritating shit, there wasn't anything I didn't like about this as far as I can remember.

Phoenix nearly dying trying to save Maya, Pearl shouting at Fran, Edgey being anxious to meet the bikini lady etc. Getting to play as Edgey was AMAZING.

If I didn't like AJ I'd curse it for ruining T&T's happy ending ;__;

This is definitely one of my favorite cases from the entire series. It wrapped up the Phoenix arc quite well by tying up the rest of the loose ends and giving closure on the characters while still leaving a bit of room for speculation. I loved the progress of events in this case, especially the Edgeworth segments and the final courtroom scenes. This is the only case in the series that made me cry a little, too (Godot's quotes regarding Mia near the very end hit me hard).

My absolute favorite part was the final confrontation with Dahlia, by far. Seeing Mia throw everything back in her face and call her a failure... so perfect. I'm not a big fan of Iris, either, but the other parts of this case made up for her in my eyes. XD

First of all, I have to say that Iris has to be the worst defendant I've ever had the pleasure of defending (and that's even taking into account Zak Gramarye). The fact that she was a part of the whole series of events pisses me off no end (at least Lana Skye was an unwilling accomplice to the events in 1-5).

Apart from that however, I found the case to be a fitting, if rather easy case to end the Phoenix arc (unless the word "snowmobile" is mentioned). On my first play of this case, I hailed it as the best case I'd ever played. Now after replaying this game (and the others), I'd say it was the fourth best case in the series, even though playing as Edgeworth is the awesomest thing ever.

At the risk of setting off a flame war, why do some people despise Iris so much? I understand that she gets in the way of shippings, is significantly weaker than other main female characters, and it was annoying for most of the case when she wouldn't tell you anything that was going on, but that doesn't warrant the amount of hatred she gets.

Anyway, I'm playing the countdown a few days late to coincide with the UK release so expect an essay on this thread sometime soon~

Agree with Midnight Jasper.

Anyways, I love this case. Now while it is easy and takes some elements of 2-4, the ending with Godot's confession, and Dahila's breakdown makes it my favourite case in the series. It wraps up the Nick saga nicely but as much as I like AJ, I want to shoot it for ruining the happy feel ofthe ending of this case. Also, this is the only case to get me teary-eyed.

This is one of my favorite cases. I agree with most people here, it wraps up the whole trilogy and some of the loose ends left. But it does leave some room for speculation, like what happened to Godot after that, or where did Maya go in AJ.
3-5 was one of those cases that made me tear up. When I played through it for the first time, I tore up a little, and then laughed at Phoenix's coffee sprite. Finishing this and hearing the end credits made the whole Phoenix Wright series a memory that I will never forget. And of course... IT'S EPIC!
If you haven't finished this yet, go do it!

Before I played this case, I said to myself, "Well, this is it, the last case of the Phoenix arc. I sure hope it'll be a good case... This entire arc has been fantastic, I wish it wasn't ending... The only thing is I wish they had resolved that whole Morgan/Master/Fey clan thing..." Which made me completely love this case when it turned out it gave me exactly what I wanted xD

I thought the difficulty was fine. I mean, it wasn't challenging like 1-5, but it wasn't that easy. I thought the actual plot was interesting, even if they came up with a pretty bad plan. At least not going to Phoenix and just telling them fit in with Godot's character. It was great having Edgy, Franzy, Godot, and Phoenix in court (although I didn't faun over playing as Edgy >_>). I loved having Larry back :3 I don't think Maya going missing made it too similar to 2-4, and never really liked Pearl, and knew she would be fine (since she was just a little girl :P), and I was glad that we FINALLY got a real 5-lock psyche-lock. I instantly liked Elise (as we were supposed to, I guess) and thought Bikini was very nice. Iris was nice, kind, sweet, etc, but kind of plain to me, although I thought it was great how Phoenix's whole "I don't think that was the real Dollie!" at the end of 3-1 was what had actually happened :P

The only new pieces of music were Hazakura Temple, which I thought wasn't bad but was forgettable (it doesn't go anywhere), The Bitter Taste of Truth, which I liked but didn't think was spectacular, and Elise Deaunim ~ Simple Melody, which I think is great. (It fits the ending speech/picture so well!! :3) Also, bringing back Pursuit ~ Cornered 2001 was fantastic.

The only thing I didn't really like was T&T's reliance on the killer being caught by a slip of the tongue (3-1 is the only case where it doesn't happen) but it was much more minor in this case than in 3-2 and 3-3, so I guess it's fine.

Also, this is the first time I noticed that "She must have just gotten off the trolley from the land of make-believe" line. The AA games' localization is truly brilliant. (I also thought the gravely roast translation was pretty great.)

Easily the second-best case. (Sorry, nothing is beating Turnabout Goodbyes.)

I really enjoyed the first half of the case. There was a lot of mystery, Larry was back and hilarious, playing as Edgeworth and Gumshoe was a blast, very little Maya...! And it was especially a relief to see Phoenix act like a normal guy despite being around a cute girl (kinda made up for Feenie). I didn't even mind Franziska.

The second day ruined it for me. All the "IS MAYA OKAY!?" drama was a bore, and Godot showing up like he did gave away the whole case for me. Add to that the fact that the whole case hinged on Godot and Elise being selfish morons, and a rather unsatisfying final cross, and I'd lost all interest in the case by the time I got to the end.

But I did like Bikini and Iris. And Edgeworth passing out in the earthquake, lol. There were a lot of great little moments in the case, but as a whole I thought the murder itself should have been thought out better (at least so that Misty didn't look like a total bitch).

Ah, this is the one case I must post about.

To start things off, the new and returning characters were awesome. The whole thing between Iris and Dahlia, was very interesting. Bikini was a pretty good character, and when her name was mentioned, you wouldn't expect that it would look like the real her at all.. The moment I saw Elise, I knew she would be a wonderful character. I did not see Elise's "secret" coming at all, and I had a jaw-dropping moment there.

Speaking of jaw-dropping moments, this case absolutely had lots. The plot-twists, epic breakdowns, the "OMG" moments were all awesome. I mean, who would have guessed who the killer was? Finally we taught that little Dahlia a lesson! We got to see Edgeworth AND Franny, which I was really happy about. All the suspense if Maya was dead or not, at first I knew she was going to be alive, but then some point at the last trial I had worried if she actually died or not.

I do have more to say, but I believe I've said everything........in a nutshell.
I was truly amazed with this case, even the second time, and it is one case I will never forget.

It was my all-time favorite case, and it still is. :godot:

This and Farewell My Turnabout are probably the most epic cases in the series (In my opinion).

To keep it short: There was a lot of great plot-twists and shocking secrets revealed, and it definitely had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

There really isn't much to say, other than I agree with everyone's been saying so far. So here's my grade for this case: A.

I agree with Croik. I loved this case all the way through the first time I played it, mostly because I was confused about what was going on the whole time and loved it.

On replays however, the second day of trial just doesn't do it for me. The last part of the game this time just had me wanting to get through it as quickly as possible. I do like Godot's character and appreciate how he adresses how bad his plan was. But it's always been hard for me to come to terms with them forgiving him so readily, and with Misty's behavior (particularly the reason she had that sword! Argh!). In the end these issues are just bad writing.

But the first half is great, and so is the second investigation phase. Playing with Edgeworth is fun, Gumshoe and Franziska and Larry are all hilarious, and it's very enjoyable. So not one of my very favorite cases because of the end, but still a good one.

This is all people really need to hate someone. They hate her for this reason only and use the other reasons to make people think that they have a decent argument. :nick:

Uh anyways, as you can probably tell, I really, really like this case. It's my second favorite of all time.

Okay I AM man enough to admit, at first, I hated Iris. Having been fooled into thinking that Melissa Foster was not Dahlia, this time I thought I should make sure that I did not fall for that same mistake again. From the beginning I thought that Dahlia was putting on another stage show as Iris. I was sort of right in the end though. I still did think it was annoying that Iris was hiding lots of stuff. But I guess I couldn't stay mad at her. It's all because of what she said at the end. Her confession immediately made her a new favorite character of mine. She completed what Phoenix was missing all along, she confirmed once and for all that Phoenix was not gay just the cliche character with a painful sense of righteousness. In fact if it weren't for this stunning beauty, I don't think I could've dealt with Phoenix in the next game at all.

Edgeworth once again, finally gained my complete respect and climbed up to the title of my favorite character. When I heard that first "Take That!" coming from Edgeworth's lips as I attempted to break Iris's first psycho-lock, I knew this would be a fun case. On some testimonies, I'd repeatedly press the same statements just because it makes me giggle like a schoolgirl everytime he says "Hold It!". I love his part so much, that I usually have it saved at the very moment before the trial begins for him. I've played the first part at least 8 times. The second half, maybe about 3...

Franziska was a nice return, she gets served by Edgeworth, and then by Pearl, and then by Godot. It was also kinda cute that she stalked Phoenix around a bit.

Larry in this case was just awesome. I can forgive his attempts to steal Iris from Phoenix, I even welcomed it when I actually hated her. He really was trying as hard as he could to change, who knows? Maybe he did in the end...

Pearl was a bit of a nuisance in this case, I felt pretty mad that she was the only one found at the Inner Temple and not Maya. What also annoys me is the fact that her Psyche-Locks were arranged in such a weird pattern. Seriously, what is THAT supposed to mean?!?

Maya was also rather annoying in this case. In fact, her behavior in this case only sped up my transition from Phoenix/Maya to Phoenix/Iris. If she really liked Phoenix so much, I don't think she'd keep so many secrets from him. I don't care if it was to protect Godot, her testimony is so hard it's unforgivable.

Speaking of Godot, why can't he have thought up a better plan? I can think of SO many ways this could've gone better. First of all, he could have just told Phoenix, Maya, and even Pearl of the plan (which would mean that Phoenix would never meet Iris but...), at least they should've told Bikini about it. Or maybe they could've just not even gone near Hazakura temple, locked Misty Fey in some chamber of some kind, and have her channel Dahlia there, that way Dahlia and Pearl wouldn't be able to do anything. The point is, the plot was extremely preventable, which is a big disappointment for me...

I don't have much to say about Bikini, she's kinda like Oldbag but nicer.

Overall, it's a great case with some pretty awesome stuff that goes down occasionally. Although it could've been thought out a little more and in a different way.

I think it was done to avoid completely covering up Pearl's face since the normal arrange that Psyche Locks are put in probably would since she's so short. That's what I took it as at least.

Bridge To the Turnabout is one of my favourite cases. It tied up T&T very well and left me contempt and satisfied after playing it. It also brought back major villain Dahlia Hawthorne and introduced new plot twists which were very interesting.

The plot was excellent and I loved the character development of all characters...including Maya as this was the last time (excluding that other time) where we see her in the series.

Music was good and I loved the Phoenix/Iris/Miles/Franziska giant pairing in this case :karma:

Why would this annoy you? She's a tiny kid, if the locks were arranged normally then we wouldn't have been able to see her and it would have looked messy.

Pearl is awesome, and I laughed at the end when she'd slapped Nick for looking at Iris. She'll always be a hardcore Nick/Maya shipper :pearly:

Why would this annoy you? She's a tiny kid, if the locks were arranged normally then we wouldn't have been able to see her and it would have looked messy.

Oh. And all this time I thought that it had some special meaning...

I really enjoyed playing through this case again. Playing as Edgy was fantastic and it made a great finish to the Phoenix Wright trilogy. I really enjoyed the "Reminiscence: The Bitter Taste of the Truth" theme, it nearly made me cry each time I heard it. Larry's sketches were also cute. It was great to see he found something that he was (even remotely) good at :larry:. A fantastic case in my eyes, but it always makes me feel sad that it's the last of Phoenix Wright's attorney days.

My second favourite case of the whole series. (Turnabout Goodbyes is the best!)

The highlight for me was playing as Edgeworth, as he is just awesome! Hearing him say HOLD IT! and TAKE THAT! were the most epic 3 seconds of my life, combined.

I don't think that they should have had Maya being trapped 2 games in a row, but it did make for a killer plot twist, and a breakdown on par with Kristoph's.

Also I really wasn't expecting Godot's Objection. It was sort of like, after the epicness of fighting Dahlia, and Mia finally finishing her off, you completely forget about the fact that the true murderer hasn't been found!

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic case. Really good. 9/10

Yay!! (Just for that, I won't sabotage your game by giving your horrible beta-criticism :3)

Not just because I hate 2-4 in general, I think it was done better in 3-5 than in 2-4, because it relied more on the actual plot and characters. In 2-4, anyone could have been captured, and the result would have been the same (although perhaps a bit less (or maybe even more, depending on the character and player) emotional when you had to make a decision), with some minor plot changes. It really didn't matter that it was Maya who was kidnapped. (Mia relaying info to you about Maya only mattered when she talked about seeing BBC, and that could've been replaced with some other slip-up on the transceive, or Pearl could have been kidnapped.) In 3-5, the whole plot twist revolved around the fact that Maya was a spirit medium, meaning it could have only happened to Maya. (The only other character who could spirit channel was Pearl, and the whole point of the entire case was that she wasn't supposed to be the one channeling Dahlia... and the hair would make it kinda obvious.)

tl;dr: In 2-4 it was a macguffin and could've been anyone, while in 3-5 it really could have only happened to Maya.

3-5, my favorite case, no doubt on that. It's the best case of the best game for me.

First off, as many say, it tied all the loose ends of every single case and character before it, including those of other games. For example, the Fey family, which until then was full of doubts, became a whole lot deeper and ended it's long history.

Misty's story was cleared up, as we now know what happened to her after her disappearing. Also, Maya became Master of Kurain, excluding her from all the eventual PW games that could have come after T&T. Then there's Morgan, that reappeared and became a central part of the plot with Dahlia and Iris, the two intriguing twins of opposite personality. But the most developed Fey was Mia, which was connected to my all-time favorite character: Godot. He's the best part of 3-5, because his story was the deepest in all AA, and because it ended in the most beautiful, philosophical, and romantic way ever. :godot:

This is why I believe that Bridge to the Turnabout gave a very satisfying ending to Phoenix, as well as to the entire trilogy itself.
9.8/10
(I should give it a 10/10, but the vague possibility of the next GS games being better than it remains...) :edgy:

god this case took forever to finish

Okay, am I the only one who didn't think Dahlia getting verbally ripped apart was totally awesome? Mocking the recently deceased is bad enough, but rubbing all of her failures in her face and basically condemning her to never find peace? Kind of getting into 'cruel and unusual punishment' territory, in my opinion. Yeah, she was a total bitch, but that doesn't mean the 'heroes' should take the low road, too.

That, and I felt bad for her. Her whole life pretty much sucked. Nobody offered her even an ounce of sympathy, though.

On the other hand, everybody bawws for Godot and forgives him for being a total dick immediately because his girlfriend died. :larry: :larry: :larry: :larry: :larry:

Hey, remember in 3-2 when Godot told both Phoenix and Ron that real men clean up their own messes? HAHAHAHAHA

Misty sucked.

GOD GO AWAY MIA I'VE GOT THIS oh wait you're not here to help you're just here to laugh at Dahlia

Okay, I think I got the bad stuff out of the way. Pretty much everything else was great.

Pearl-slapping was at a minimum. Excellent.

Larry was awesome. I think I laughed for about two straight minutes the first time he unveiled his sketch, and even on repeat plays it's still pretty hilarious.

Franziska still had her PERFECTION PERFECTION I WILL DEFEAT YOU thing going, but it seemed more like she was just kind of going through the motions than being totally serious like she was in JfA, which was just fine with me. It was pretty amusing having her tag along with Phoenix and making haughty comments every time you examined something.

Do I really need to say anything about playing Edgeworth?

gumshoe wanted to be a wizard lol

bikini x edgeworth otp

Iris was such a sweetie, I felt almost as bad for her as for Dahlia. I loved her little blonde moments.

:ayame: I can even use a computer and a cell phone!
:nick-sweat: uh yeah good job there

Oh Iris, you're such an adorable dork.

Still my favorite case, even if the whole thing could have been prevented completely by Godot and Misty not being retards.

I'm not sure I even want to continue on to AJ since I kind of want to stay in a good mood for AAI. :yuusaku:

This is what I felt as well. I know she was a murderer but when she's Iris you get to see how she feels about herself - she wanted to take revenge on her father, who she saw as an awful awful person, and started to commit crime after crime. Obviously she's evil and twisted and all that, but she's not as bad as Morgan, and I thought that what Mia did was a bit much. It did make for an awesome breakdown though.

Also, to everyone who says that Godot could've just burnt the letter: Pearl visits Morgan every month. If she hadn't found the letter, she would report back to her mother, who probably had a back-up plan - there's no way Morgan would've plotted for so long only to have the plan fail if the letter was lost somehow. Of course, this doesn't mean that Godot's messed up plan was the only way, just that to foil the plan completely Pearl would've had to be made aware of the plan's purpose and so on.

Wow, I must have been tired last night to forget about mentioning Morgan. If anyone deserved an 'ultimate punishment', it was her.

Or Manfred, but he wasn't in the case. :yogi:

As much as I'm sure it would suck losing leadership of your family because you weren't born powerful enough, the fact that she wanted to murder her own daughter and sentence the other to death in a desperate attempt to get it back is just... I don't even have the words to express how absolutely horrible that is.

At least Dahlia had enough decency to spare her sister. I thought her love/hate relationship with Iris was pretty touching; sad that it had to come to such a tragic end.
