Yeah it's a jabot, a cravat is more of a tie/scarf type thing. Cravat is a better word though 8)

Really? I could have sworn I remembered Edgeworth talking about how they're the same, and then Kay went off on a tangent and said that, of course, the best kind of ladder for a thief was a rope ladder. Or something to that effect.

I think the confusion here is because there were two occasions where he mentioned "step-ladder" and "ladder."
