Just checked our email and we got a nice message from Tom East of Official Nintendo Magazine. He complimented us on Court-Records, but more importantly; He wrote up an impressive article interviewing Shu Takumi, and Motohide Eshiro.

Excerpt from the Article wrote:

How did you come up with the concept of a courtroom game? And did you expect it to be as successful as it has been? -hooeylewissukz

Takumi: I love classic mystery novels and the Ace Attorney franchise is a materialised form of my ideals of the mystery genre. I think a good mystery game should allow the player to feel the sensation of solving the veiled mystery little by little, with a dramatic build-up of logic and evidence.

I felt that this would be extremely befitting in a court with an attorney and a witness testifying. I'm also a big fan of courtroom drama so I knew the first Ace Attorney would be a good game but I wasn't expecting it to be this popular - I didn't even dream of a day Phoenix Wright went abroad!

There's a lot of interesting stuff that gets covered, some Fan Speculation gets addressed, and there are some small looks inside what goes in through their minds regarding the history of the series and where they think they're going with it.

Show Tom some support and check out his Article.

I know what to think. It's Legalese. Basically the Question asker asked a question in the form that directly collided with a generic NDA. The trick is to ask questions that evade those sorts of barriers. I knew seeing the questions before I saw the answer that the response would be rubbish.

Not a bad review, though the concept of them considering GS5 as AAI concerns me but only since you said it there. Wasn't it marketed as Gyakuten not Saiban though? Gyakutan Kenji so I'm still remaining hopeful about this.

What really bothers me is the annoying fan requests about bringing Fey's back for AJ2 (presuming it is done) or even having Phoenix reinstated. I'd hoped for more definite rebuttals for these ideas but....guess they wouldn't wanna annoy the fans by giving a definite answer to a fickle fanbase.....that or they are still indecisive....probably (hopefully) the latter.

Nice article. Of course, they couldn't answer anything about GS5 or future games, but it did surprise me how openly they talked about potential Mia and Gummy games. And, as I expected, they haven't even thought about an anime. Bummer.

Woah, 3-4 months an episode? That's why it takes so damn long for the games from announcement to release.

And yeah, Wynston Payne... Huh. Though I did laugh at Judge Mario with a "Mamma Mia!" bubble.

I hope there IS a GS5 and they didnt mistake the 2007 announcement of "GS5" for AAI... *grumble*, I'm not even sure GS5 exists (I hope it does.)
I'm still looking forward to AAI but really GS5 too.

As to his response to the Mia question, a Mia game sounds interesting but not really as a "mystery" game if you get what I mean, all those cases would effectively be flashback cases and I dont think I'd want a whole game of them.
I like the idea of Phoenix/Apollo defending Mario though :D

Who was it that announced the existence of GS5? Wasn't it the president/head/whatever of Capcom? Dude, he could totally mistake the two games. XD That, and looking at previous interviews (for example, like articles the Ace Attorney Wikia links to from the GS5 page) looks more like, in hindsight, that they could have been talking about AAI.

NOW. I do not want to be some sort of conspiracy-starter/fear-mongerer...but dammit, Capcom. Why u do dis? But I'm going to trust Wooster and just label the current interview answers as "Legalese." *hopes and prays*

If this'll put your fears to rest, the staff has frequently referred to Kenji as a 'separate series' from Saiban. That on its own says that there'll be more GS games. Ergo, there will be a GS5.

I really don't think it's a matter of the president mistaking the games or anything like that. A few weeks after GS4 came out, it was still selling like crazy, so he said they would definitely make a GS5. The series was really taking off over here too, so it totally made sense that Capcom promised to continue it. Looking back on it now, it seems like that comment was a "hell yeah we want to make more money" rather than declaring the development of a particular game.

I'd like to see a Mia Fey game. (I had actually thought about that before) Maybe :neil2: or :lana: could be the prosecutor.
And a game about :eh?: where the mystery doesn't get solved would be hilarious, if unfulfilling.
Oh, and the answer to the last question is classic LEGENDARY. Samus as the prosecutor, Mario as the judge, and Link as a witness? Hilarious! But the "Wynston Payne" was just dumb. :lana: Although, I wonder who the defense/ defendant/ culprit would be... Here are my ideas:
Defendant: Kirby
Defense: :phoenix: (it has to have at least one GS character to be a GS game, right?)
Culprit: I can't decide.. maybe Fox or Ness or.. Pikachu! Yes, Pikachu!
Prosecution: Samus/ "Wynston" Payne
Judge: Mario
Witnesses: Link, Fox, Ness, GENO, Captain Falcon, Olimar, ROB, Mr. G&W... Oh wait, that's already too many :payne:
Crime: Bombing some Dodongos Stealing YOSHI'S COOKIE! :cookie:
Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

I genuinely do suspect the GS5 'announcement' was about GK, considering how long it's been and how there's no sign Takumi, Matsukawa or Eshiro are working on it. That interview with Capcom-unity Eshiro seemed to be 'no, nothing is planned yet' rather than 'no comment'.

So I think it was like this. A 5th game was greenlighted for the franchise. Perhaps it was the Ema game concept at this point, whatever it was, later it developed into GK. At the original 'GS5' announcement no such detail was given or known. Withdraw the 'announcement'? No way. Fan speculation keeps hype alive and there's still likelihood it will be made eventually anyway.

I think it's odd how openly they always agree with the idea of a Mia game but maybe it's because they are allowed to, to be polite etc. whereas commenting on future games involving Apollo/Phoenix/Maya etc. is in the 'no comment/controversy' category.

Now people always seem to ask for a Mia game. It's a bit weird. I wonder if it happens in JP? If so we might just get it.

In terms of a Mia game they wrote themselves into a corner between GS3 and her death in GS1. A side story would be possible, but hard to write without ret-conning the existing canon. It seems pretty pointless plot-wise but with a lot of care they could do it.
Really, the main attraction to such a game to me is getting to have a slightly younger Phoenix as your legal aide/sidekick for some case/s.

I want more Phoenix! I don't really need more Mia. A Mia game sounds like a fanservice but set in the distant past a lot of chars will be too young AND bringing them in risks conflicting existing canon. I LOVED the flashback of younger Edgeworth-Franzy in AAI but that's different.

Haha. Any ideas of a question which would subvert these? :franny:

What makes you think that? 'We haven't decided anything at all about future games' seems to be the official policy. Still. (Except Matsukawa once said that 'if' there's' a GS5, some past characters/s from past games/s will return, so no blanket new cast.)

I know, I said they were either indecisive or didn't want to risk upsetting a fickle fanbase. They might not have decided yet simply....personally I think we've still got a while before GS5.

I really hope there is a GS5, but I don't want it set around Gummy or Mia. It's Apollo's turn now. They should give him the spotlight, or at most, give Phoenix back his badge (Which would make for an awesome tutorial case), and have him deal with Cases 1 and 3, and let Apollo have Cases 2 and 4, then they both form a Defense super-team on Case 5. That would be epic.

Or at the very least Ace Attorney Investigations: Winston Payne. :karma:

If the GS5 announcement was really AAI, maybe we won't see "GS5" until 2012 or something at least. Still, wasnt the game announced as "Gyakuten NOT Saiban", I'm not sure it means the end of the GS saga (considering how AJ ended, it seems even more stupid).

That would be awesome! In the last case there should be a main character in the defendant stand. Like :eh?: or :franny: or :rock'n: or even :pearl-blush:
