Updated on the 21st of April. (new gameplay trailer!)

Image

Looks like Capcom decided to be generous with the enthusiastic Shu Takumi's fans we are at their Captivate 2010 event, and decided to treat us with a brand new trailer in English (this time!), new screens, and a 'release date' for both US and EU territories.

Trailer: First of all, Capcom had just released a brand new trailer in order to help us waiting, but also to confirm that the game will indeed be released in the US/Europe. You'll find the said trailer there! We also have a gameplayer trailer, available on Youtube! (many thanks to BoltStorm for it)

New name + release date (US AND EU):
And if you watch this trailer (entirely in English!), you'll learn than in the US and in Europe, the game will, from now on, be known as... Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. As for the release date, though we we were first told it would be September 2010, it looks like the game will be released this Winter, which means somewhere between December the 21st, 2010 and March the 21st 2011... which means we probably won't get it before next year. Well, a good localization is much better than a rushed one, isn't it? And good thing for European players: the game is also confirmed in Europe!

New screenshots and artworks: Of course, they're all taken from the trailer itself (except from the artworks, of course), but it's really nice to be able to look at some screens, and be able to understand what's written in them! You'll find them there (it's a French website, but don't mind the French, just click on the picture to look at them).

Anyone noticed the dog's called... Missile? Oh, I see wut ya did thar, Capcom...

Well, we don't really know, because... the game will be released in Japan on June the 24th. Still 2 more months to go before getting some reviews from Famitsu, other magazines, and players who can understand Japanese, won't feel the slightest guilty for all those players who can't, and won't be ashamed to not only import it, and also play it in Japanese.

So, to answer your question: we don't know yet.

Also, I dunno if we ever got official confirmation, but yeah, that's Phoenix in the trailer, and this is set in the Ace Attorney universe.

It's a few months old, so apologies if this is old news.

Capcom-Unity also put up some gameplay footage of Ghost Trick:

:beef:

Boy...it's amazing what understanding the text (in the trailer, I mean) can do for piquing one's interest.

And here I thought it had been "established" that that wasn't him, too.

Well, I'm very eager to see how this plays out! I mean, just the fact that Ghost Trick is even set in the same universe speaks volumes, they could've easily made it an entirely different one! Makes me wonder why they didn't...

First, apparently it IS Phoenix, just that the lower-resolution trailer didn't show it very well, since his hair isn't very marked.

Second holy baloney this looks amazing. Seriously, the dialogue seems so deliciously non-sequitur, that it looks like it'll be even wittier than the Ace Attorney series' dialogue.
And the gameplay looks very fun too.

I... simply think this game will be outstanding, and I already want to play it badly. Shu Takumi truly is an underappreciated genius.

Can barely wait for Winter.

It's actually part of the AA universe?
That makes it even MORE interesting to me. How will it fit into the canon? How will it work with existing characters? Will it touch any special events or subjects from the games? Oh, this is exciting, I can't wait!

This...looks really good, even better than before. Going off the trailer, it looks like the game keeps that same style of humour Ace Attorney was well known for.

And being set in the Ace Attorney universe? I really didn't see that one coming.

I believe I've said it before, but the music...it's totally made of win.

What interested me the most was actually the whole idea of "to the time four minutes before the murder". That means you must be manipulating time to save people, right? Saving them in the midst of their own personal crisis, by doing something akin to taking them to a different location or distracting the murderer, right? Sounds like it anyway.

This looks really good. I wasn't too interested in when it was first announced but watching that trailer has convinced me otherwise. Everything about it is great. The music, characters (from what we've seen) and the fact that it will be set in the AA Universe.

Lynne and Kamila look like they will be interesting characters so I'm hoping they won't be like Maya. I think this game has potential to be just as great as the AA series, especially since Takumi is in charge.

The trailer looks quirky and very interesting, and the fact it is set in the AA Universe has piqued my interest somewhat.
Looking forward to it. How will it relate to PW? Will Nick have a big cameo?

This game at first was kind of a bad concept that you thought it wouldn't work.

Then I played the demo and saw how structured it was. And you have the PIXAR lamp as a sidekick.

And then I saw the trailers.
AND then I saw Phoenix Wright.
AND THEN I SAW MISSILE

...and then I began looking for a pre-order.

Their money is on a December 31 release. Is that confirmed or are they just throwing out a date?

The game looks great. I wanted it before I knew it was set in the Ace Attorney universe, but now that I know it is I really can't wait for more information from it. It's cool to see the universe branch out even further from the standard gameplay of the first four.

December 31st is typically a default date set for things when people only have a rough ballpark of when something's coming out. Also, December 31st is a Friday this year so it's doubtful any games would come out then.

Hmm... since apparently this is in the same universe with AA...
This time we're going to stop the murders from happening, instead of letting Phoenix solve them?

Heh, it seems Nick won't be getting much clients after that night. :meekins:

I know it's confirmed that it takes place in the AA universe but... what about Sissel's soul disappearing forever at dawn? If souls cease to exist after a certain period of time, how can Mia et al still be channelled? Or is Sissel supposed to be a special case?

It seems that Sissel may be an entirely different case to Mia and others that came back in AA. I mean, with the whole reality manipulation that is implied ("I'll save you again and again, as many times as it takes", "posses", "four minutes before the murder") it seems to be a given.

So, he's obviously no normal spirit.

Okay, if I understand all of this utter nonsense:

-The protagonist is a dead guy who alters the course of future murders
-A candescent blue ball of ethereal matter can POSSESS material objects and move them around at whim
-A conspicuous gunman wielding a sniper rifle can easily stroll into an unsuspecting young girl's home unnoticed. Wouldn't a pistol be less noticeable? Oh wait...
-It's set in the Ace Attorney universe, where the local populace is as competent at preventing crime as the police are at whatever it is they do that resembles paid work. Either that or the killers are just that damn good.
-The story will somehow include an introduction, rising action + conflict, climax, denouement, and resolution all within the span of half a day
-To top it all off, a heavily MIDI synthesized soundtrack to create a superb atmosphere of tension

I think I've fallen for this game all aready.

The premise and gameplay seem interesting, and I like the art style, but I can't say I feel all too excited that it's actually a part of the AA universe. I mean, it's not that it's a bad thing, but I feel the creator may be using the series as a crutch rather than taking a chance on something completely seperate. Maybe that's just me, though.

Not, it's not just you. I think the same. Don't think the common universe thing is bad, not at all, but... as you just said, I really wish Takumi had taken the opportunity to make something brand-new and original, though I would still have loved a few cameos from the AA series... but no more than that.

Well, I'm still pretty excited about this game, and this hasn't changed at all, actually :)

Also, I just realized that Lynne says "I just died again!". Maybe this means she comes back to life more than once? Then Sissel can avoid disappearing too? If Sissel doesn't stay dead by the end of this game, it won't be as original in the end, IMO.

It'll be fun anyway. Looking forward to it!

I think what happens is Sissel can go back in time to four minutes before someone is murdered. If he messes up and the person still dies, then he can go back in time again and try it again. That's my theory... so if you mess up a bunch of times, Lynne will die and again and again xD I don't think Sissel himself will come back to life though...

And yes, I noticed that in bost the Ghost Trick and Ace Attorney trailers they would highlight buzzwords :P

Already was looking foward to Ghost Trick, wanting it more now. So happy it's being localized~~
