It seems that Takarazuka isn't the only musical that Capcom are interested in at the moment.

The Phoenix Wright Musical project was formed around 2 and a half years ago on this very forum, the thread here may have died down, but the project itself is still going strong on its own forums; so strong in fact that Capcom themselves have got in touch asking for more information pertaining to the project. There is in fact, some form of liscensing agreement in the works, though no news on that just yet. As such, the group has decided to make a Demo Reel for the company. Hopefully this could be the beginning of a beautiful partnership.

For more information visit the project's forum and you can help decide on the CD cover design that they'll be sending to Capcom by voting here. If you've not sampled the delights of the project, here's a little taster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_mAnR48jSg

Because if you're not, there's no reason for this to be bad news, or anything to sigh at.

Seriously, if this is for real... wow. Just wow. I'm impressed.

More that I wish I hadn't been forced out the boardroom when the project was in its infancy.

But it is very good news. You guys put so much work into it. Hope it works out. :)

Oh. Didn't know that. Sorry for bringing it up...

But yes, it is great news. I wonder what can come up from this? A CD? A DVD? A CD-DVD? A full-blown play would be taking it too far, but a CD-DVD of a professionally-recorded performance would be an excellent idea.

@Artemis: Hey, congrats to all of you! You really seem like you've put a huge amount of effort and work on it, and it seems it's paying off, or at least, we can hope it does. It's all up to Capcom now!

I have no idea what the music project is about but this is freaking huge. Must be one hell of a project if a major video game developer wants to be involved.

@Gerkuman While I may not know the reasons for... whatever transpired, I do know that there is still a lot to be done on the project and that they're always looking for help. Right now the demo reel/CD takes priority BUT ( and to answer @DeMatador's curiosity) they will need animators eventually.

Basically, the project was contrived to be an animation musical. I could set up a million links to each thread on the forums as to where you might be able to find things, but If you are curious, or interested, your best bet is to just poke around. All the lyrics are set, the singing cast is selected, the nearly-final version script is done which follows the first case excluding Rise From The Ashes (I say 'nearly' because once in a while the Writers update it or replace wording), and the ART SCRIPT is on it's way to completion. This is the script for animation cues or ideas. And it's no joke, so far the thing is over 300 pages. Yes, 300 pages. I have it on my computer (you can DL it from the forums, if you're curious).

They do have a website also, but as of right now it's rather sparse. If you're a talented web designer, or anything, though, and wish to help, head on over to the forums and PM one of the purple-names. They'd be overjoyed!

For another source of some information, you can also read this article put together by http://www.gamers.fr/ which is HERE And if you don't read French, but can read English, Google Translate kinda makes sense of it

I didn't really see it as you being forced out(everyone had a chance to participate in the original "Save the Musical" chat in 2008 when Actorman and the others took over the project and anybody could join and participate in the project thereafter), but I didn't realize you were sore about it, Gerkuman. Sorry about any wrongs you feel were dealt to you ;_; But incidentally, have you had any contact with Ethed? I'd love to hear from her again.

At any rate, we have 30 songs mostly finalized(yep, it's huge- an estimated 3 1/2 to 4 hours), and yes, we've had communication with Capcom USA in regards to being licensed. The license as of right now will just be a "fan license," pretty much meaning that we will have Capcom's permission for this project to exist, but it doesn't mean they'll be funding anything or we'll have permission to sell anything(not that we ever had plans to). The paperwork is still being written up just for that part, so it's not really set in stone yet, but we're pretty confident that much at least will happen.

The demo reel and highlights CD is mainly an attempt to drum up more interest from them for the possibility of them going further than that. Of course, we'll release that to the internet when it's done, as well as the full soundtrack. The cast members will be recording the full soundtrack soon, and then the dialogue later.

The current plan is to attempt to animate the musical in Flash for release on the internet, but that aspect of the project has not made a lot of progress. We'd love to have some artists(who aren't scared of an EXTREMELY ambitious project) swing on over to our forums and dive in to help with art and organization. We've got storyboards for some scenes that aren't very consistent, but not much else.

Overall, the musical HAS come a very long way. The vocal songs are just about finalized, and the script is complete(but about to undergo a big overhaul, mainly for consistency). We're pretty proud of it :)

EDIT:
I noticed that Maxwell's links were just a little off.

Here's the thread on our forums about the pending licensing agreement: http://megalomaniacalme.net/pwmusical/v ... 284#p41612

And here's the link for thread to vote on the Highlights CD art:

After seeing this news, I headed onto the forums and looked at a few threads. I got to say, I have never seen such an ambitious project. 2+ years? Wow. The songs are really amazing and professional. I've seen a couple videos of these songs on YouTube before I've seen this thread, and I was shocked how great they were.

This is big news for the people at the project's forum. I think I will follow along you guys. I may be able to help with the website, but not sure if I'm up to such a huge project and kind of rusty on my website skills.

That's absolutely amazing! Really, wonderful news.

I love this musical so much I have all of the early versions of the songs on my iPod ;)
It's just pure fun, and it's done with great professionalism. You guys definitely have Broadway-like creativity.

Looking forward to the final version!

Maybe I'll get onto the forums and see if there's anything I can to do to help.

Hmm, in that case, I'm curious what Capcom's role in this is, beyond officially deciding not to C&D.

From what I've gathered:
  1. The project is 'officially' allowed to 'exist'.
  2. Money isn't going to be made.
  3. Capcom USA's marketing department is getting involved.

I personally suspect a conflict with points 2 and 3. Still, this is some exciting stuff.

As the head of the project (due to crazy random happenstance and jokes gone awry, I assure you), and contact with Capcom, my official position is as follows:

"Working on it, guys. Seriously."

I wish I had more details to give you, but it's really all still up for negotiations at this point! Hopefully we can send them the demo reel before they finish drafting the paperwork and REALLY wow them.

Thanks for the encouraging words. There's a lot of amazing and talented people who have worked so hard on this project. I'm sure they'd all love to hear from you! Stop by our forums sometime, or just check out our in-progress site.

At this time the project has not been completely cast, only the singing parts in interest of finalizing the soundtrack. Non-singing roles will be cast in the near future, so keep an eye out!

I just want to say that I have been stalking your musical for over two years, ever since my friend showed me an old "It's gotta be the Butz" video on youtube. I think the people who are working on the musical are super cool and are my heroes forever.

Thank you to everyone for the support and well wishes. Everyone involved in the project is doing their best to make this work, especially knowing that Capcom is watching us with interest.

At the risk of sounding like a pest, if you think there is anything you can (or would like to help out with) stop by the forums (I'm not going to put ANOTHER link in, cause there are like three links up in these comments already) and let the general admission know! There are a lot of tasks still to be done! I will admit that I am not a formal part of the project, however I offer feedback and support to all the other branches as best my ability allows, and so can you! //Insert WWII Promotional Poster//.

It's just an exciting and fun project with truly dedicated people. Something to behold indeed! Thanks to everyone who works hard to keep the project moving!

Also, Gerkuman, even though we cast the roles, there's still lots of work to be done. :O Just sayin'.

First CONGRATULATIONS!This is a great news!I remember some of your musical works, I was deeply impressed by the awesomeness.

I can see the CD cover design is on voting now, what a pity... I hope I could had visited the forum earlier and helped the design work. I'm a graphic design student and I actually have created two sets of real CD package...what a pity.

But still I'm so excited! You awesome guys totally deserve this.

Thank you, from everyone working on the project~!

ALSO, if you have graphic arts experience, there may still yet be things you can help us with. I'm not 100% sure what the procedure is, but there is a website in the works, and as far as I know, we don't really have anything designed for it. Hopefully this link works, but the Website design thread, while old, is still active, and in the latter pages (6-7) has more recent news pertaining to a new, potential domain and site. BigEngland is the man to ask about for that, though, since he's the one who volunteered to do the coding.

There is also the whole Logo Design thing.. I have minute logo experience, but it was quite some time ago, so someone with a fresher mind to it may be able to contribute heavily on it's construction.

There are other things that need arting and designing, I would float around in the design section and see if anything piques your interest.

Sure thing! We are actually in DESPERATE need of dedicated artists. So if you have the time and the desire to contribute, head on over to our forums. I believe I posted a link in reply to Komachi that takes you right over to the Design Lab, this is where all art-related things occur, and things in that section have been pretty much lurching forward within the last couple of weeks. So it'd be great to pop on in there now while we're still figuring out all of our deadlines.

We're still designing a cover for the Highlights CD! That means front cover, the inside spread, and the back of the booklet. If anyone is interested in submitting a design for consideration, now is the time guys! The deadline is fast approaching and I'd like to get everyone's ideas out there.

Received word from our Capcom contact yesterday. Things have slowed down due to E3 and Comic con, which has kept them pretty busy, but our SLA is still being worked on!

What we need now is to start mixing our Highlights CD. If anyone has any experience with audio mixing/editing/effects, we're currently accepting applications!

That was very good. Phoenix seemed a bit shaky in the beginning though. By the end however, he really picked up. Maya was really well done and same with Gumshoe.
