Journal of Occupational Mortality, vol. 10(5):132-135

W. Stickler, E. Skye, L. Basil

Abstract: In order to determine which professions are most hazardous, we sampled as many individuals as possible from several lines of work, and counted how many of them were convicted or murdered. Predictably, defense proved extremely hazardous. However, the safety records of certain other professions proved quite surprising. Medicine is extremely dangerous, whereas Mafia/Yakuza organized crime has proven relatively safe.

(SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ALL GAMES; AAI SPOILERS ARE SPOILER-TAGGED; percentages do not include AAI data points.)

Results:

Law Enforcement/Legal:

Defense Attorney:

Gregory Edgeworth: Murdered.
Robert Hammond: Murdered.
Mia Fey: Murdered.
Diego Armando: It's Complicated.
Phoenix Wright: Disbarred.
Kristoph Gavin: Convicted.
Marvin Grossberg: Blackmailed, but survived.
Apollo Justice: Survived.

Spoiler: AAI
Calisto Yew: Convicted/Fraudulent.

Percent convicted/disbarred/murdered: 6/8 = 75%

Prosecutor:

Miles Edgeworth: Survived.
Franziska von Karma: Survived.
Manfred von Karma: Convicted.
Godot: Convicted/Deceased/Other.
Winston Payne: Survived.
Klavier Gavin: Survived.
Neil Marshall: Murdered.
Lana Skye: Convicted of evidence tampering, but not murder.

Percent convicted/murdered: 4/8 = 50%

Spoiler: AAI
Byrne Faraday: Murdered.

Judge:

Judge: Alive.
Judge's brother: Alive.

Percent convicted/murdered: 0/2 = 0%!

Interpol Agent:

Romein LeTouse: Murdered.

Percent convicted/murdered: 1/1 = 100%

Spoiler: AAI
Franziska von Karma: Survived.
Shi-Long Lang: Survived.
Shih-Na: Convicted/Other
Akbey Hicks: Murdered.
100 Interpol Agents: Survived (!!!)

Other Police Personnel/Detectives:

Mike Meekins: Survived, fired.
Dick Gumshoe: Survived, no longer detective.
Ema Skye: Survived.
Jake Marshall: Fired for evidence tampering.
Angel Starr: Fired, became lunchlady.
Bruce Goodman: Murdered.
Damon Gant: Convicted.
Dustin Prince: Murdered.
Valerie Hawthorne: Murdered
Daryan Crescend: Convicted.

Murder/Conviction rate: 5/10 = 50% - higher if we include fired personnel. 6/11 if Luke Atmey counts.

Spoiler: AAI
Buddy Faith: Murdered.

Other professions:

Medicine (doctor/nurse):

Mimi Miney: It's Complicated.
Hotti/Hickfield: Alive, hoh-hoh-hoh. Does he count, though?
Guy Eldoon: Alive but no longer practicing.
Pal Meraktis: Murdered.
Turner Grey: Murdered.
Alita Tiala: Convicted.

Murder/Conviction Rate: 4/6 = 66%.

Spirit Medium:

Ami Fey: Deceased, soul trapped in jar which was then broken over and over.
Maya Fey: Alive, in perpetual peril.
Mia Fey: Murdered.
Misty Fey: Murdered.
Pearl Fey: Invincible.

Murder/Conviction Rate: 2/5 = 40%, but see notes.

Magician:

Max Galactica: Survived.
Zak Gramarye: Murdered.
Thalassa Gramarye: It's Complicated.
Valant Gramarye: Survived.
Trucy Wright: Survived.
Magnifi Gramarye: Death by natural causes (i.e., survived.)

Murder/Conviction Rate: 1.5/6 = 25% <-- GOOD JOB TO HAVE.

Mafioso/Mafiosa:

Bruto Cadaverini: Survived.
Viola Cadaverini: Survived.
Wocky Kitaki: Suvived.
Big Wins Kitaki: Survived.
Little Plum Kitaki: Survived.

Murder/Conviction Rate: 0/5 = 0% <- EVEN BETTER JOB TO HAVE.

If Dee Vasquez (with her Mafia ties) is counted, along with Loan Shark Furio Tigre, this looks less impressive. If Vasquez's faceless Mafia goons are counted (and assumed not to have been caught), it still looks very solid.

Recommendation: If you find yourself in the world of Ace Attorney, do not go into medicine. Do not become a defense attorney. Join the Mafia, or become a judge. Other good career choices include costumed mascot and food vendor.

Comments? Questions? Methodological nitpicks?

I love this! :gant-clap2:

This is not a methodological nitpick, but I don't think we can say for certain that Gumshoe is no longer a detective. Yes, he was nowhere to be seen in GS4, but that's not decisive proof of anything. (I know he's probably not dead either way, so the numbers don't change, but still...)

Putting it altogether, it really is amazing that Apollo is, to date, the ONLY defense attorney who hasn't been murdered/convicted/disbarred (apart from Grossburg). I know that's because he's the new protagonist, but seriously, NO ONE ELSE (not even among the peripheral characters) was spared! Makes you wonder what'll happen to Apollo when they're through with HIM... :hoboleft:

Glad to see that my intended profession is safe. Or it doesn't exist. :)

Exactly how bored were you when you did this? (I kid, I kid).

Oh whoaaa *_* This is amazing, I don't even! How much time did you spend compiling it? D: Not to mention verrry interesting. I am moooste impressed! :grossburg: And I especially love how the AA stats are surprisingly reflective of the study results. Fascinating! XD

Ah man I already knew my profession is one of the um, deadliest - being a doctor. I have so many suicidal friends, and I've attempted a couple times myself. I'm probably gonna overdose on valium or insulin my brain to death before I'm 30, but I think I prefer morphine if I can get enough of it. That is if I don't get killed by an angry patient/colleague/family member by then. WOE. Still, it's better than being a dentist. Imagine cleaning bad teeth all day, for the rest of your life. Ah, always look on the bright side 8D;;;;;;
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn?
But that's alright because I like the way it hurts

This is epic. I love reading this. Thanks for your hard work. You have put a smile on my face. Hopefully, I won't find myself in the Ace Attorney world. If I do, I rather be the judge. Seem safe and you get to see trials.

I'm surprise that magician is a good job to have... It seems dangerous after completing AJ. Magician is like the new spirit channeling. Dangerous. I guess not seeing the statistics.

This is pretty cool. Although, if you're counting 'fired', you should definitely count 'injured'. Franzy was shot in the shoulder, after all,
Spoiler: AAI
Edgey hit over the head hard enough to knock him out, and Lang shot in the leg.

Even though the injures don't seem to have had any lasting effects whatsoever... :yogi:

The only two waitresses in the series - Maggey and Olga, if you don't count Maya - aren't exactly lucky either, are they? Or those who go to Ivy University (Phoenix, Dahlia/Iris, Doug Swallow, Wesley).

Maybe this study could be extended to determine casualty rates by nationality, or more...

Programmer:
Glen Elg - killed
1/1 - 100%

That's it, I'm not gonna be programming ever O_o

Anyway, I fell kinda sorry for my far relatives now. Just see for yourself:
Cousin - prosecutor, other cousin - studying law, aunt - detective, uncle - attorney, cousin's husband - prosecutor, his father - high prosecutor, his mother - judge, his sister - prosecutor, his brother - detective.

Oh my, oh my...

Oh... shit. Forgot about him @___@;

But I'm going into Computer Science so I can rule over programmers/do software design/engineering rather than be programmer. So I think I'll still be fine.

And all my relatives are nurses (uh-oh) and teachers. So they're relativly safe :|

Just because he's not in AJ (in the present timeframe) doesn't mean he's no longer a detective.

Lisa Basil, Adam Mada? There are at least two other random programmers in the Blue Screens Inc. Background, anyways.
