C+P'd. And needlessly long.

But best of all I love Raine. So much. Throughout the game you get to see so many side of her - teacher, sister, mother-figure, daughter, subject of persecution, friend, healer, teammate, voice of reason... I think that out of everyone in the game she has the most developed personality; one minute she'll be scared to go near the water, the next she'll be willing to serve as a sacrifice to the Wind Summon; one minute she'll be hitting/kicking/generally abusing Lloyd for being stupid, the next she'll tell him how much she respects him. Best of all, she's incredibly smart and will seem to know everything, but she can't cook or do any kind of housework.
It's little self-contradicting things like that that endears her to me so much... too many games characters (or fictional characters for that matter) have 2-dimensional personalities designed to fill a certian role; angst-ridden main character out for revenge, token love intrest with a huge crush on said main character, the Badass character who seems really aloof at the beginning but ends up serving as a mentor to the younger members of the party... all these characters work; they're tried and tested and, hell, it wouldn't be an RPG without them, but you can pre-empt every line, you've seen it all before and done it a million times over with a different name and face.

She's only a year older than Zelos, but, probably because she spent her childhood running away from humans who wanted to lock her up in a laboratory for life, she's so mature and responsible. I particularly love a skit she shares with Sheena where Sheena ends up yelling "You always act like you know everything! But you can't even save Colette! You don't even care!" (or soemthing to that effect) to which Raine backs down and apologises. As shown previously when she couldn't save Door after the incident with Kilia, Raine's biggest fear, even moreso than water, is being helpless when people need her.
She doesn't hate or even dislike humans, like Genis does, even after having friends like Lloyd and Colette, despite all the things they did to her thought her life through no fault of her own. She was forced to hide her heratige for fear of excommunication... in Genis' Flanoir scene he reveals that Raine used to teach Genis the star constallations so they could find their bearings if they were found out and chased from the village.

There are a million other things in the game that makes me completely love her, but I've really rambled on enough already. (very) Long story short - I think she's awesome.
