The one I voted for fanfiction was the only one who didn't place something. Not bad. x3 Congratulations to all the winners!

This came out faster than I expected! LOL \o/

Congrates everyone! A big thanks to Croik and the judges for all the organising - it was a big effort for sure. And especially to those of you who voted for me - I don't know who you are, but your support warms my heart on this chilly winter's eve - it was a lovely surprise that Fei is well liked! <3 I am so tempted to enter again next year with a new character but I don't know if I'm allowed. ; ^ ;

I'm afraid our winners are not allowed to enter again in the year immediately following, so you'll have to wait for 2012. But if you still have those animated files you want up, send away and I'll post them with what's there already.

Aww you're too nice - I feel bad for asking now, but if it's not too much, please find it here: http://i49.tinypic.com/von3ew.gif. I didn't make more afterwards thankfully, so it's kind of pointless haha. But thank you SO MUCH anyway.. You're a darl! *smooch*

Don't you think the Croik's Choice award is kind of redundant? Judge's votes already affect rankings, so it's already assumed that the winner and runner-up are probably staff favorites in some way or another. I would suggest replacing it with an "underdog's choice" award of some type that goes to a finalist that did not place; its purpose would be to acknowledge the effort and creativity of those who did not win the popular (and judge's) vote. It wouldn't be a statement about who "should have" won, just an honorable mention to someone who might have won, in an alternate universe where the top two finalists didn't exist or place.

Yeah- I donno. I noticed that too and was surprised. There was alot of really good entries there in the fanart section and only two got a prize. They both deserved their spots, but I would've liked to see the final one go to someone that hadn't won anything :( Oh well.

Wouldn't that just be 3rd place? I'll post the final standings if people want. But only 1st place wins a prize other than bragging rights so I'm not sure that it makes a difference.

I gave myself a "Croik's Choice" because even though I field the entries and sometimes decide between a tie when the entries go to the finals, I don't score them or participate in the vote. But this is my site and my contest, so why shouldn't I name my favorites? I had them in mind before the vote started so how they ended up placing isn't really a factor.

After seeing the results, I tip my hat to those who seem to have won yet another contest. I would be more joyous if it weren't for the fact that I believe that there was a use of proxies involved. This was briefly mentioned in the forums in regards to the sprites, though I was obviously checking the results on the fanart section. I cannot prove this entirely, but what myself and a friend saw was quite unsettling.

I checked the day before the polls closed and noticed that one of the entrants had jumped significantly in numbers. This, like has been mentioned before, is normal due to the final twenty four hours. However, when a friend of mine went to check the results on the sudden jump, she noticed that less then two minutes later, the entrant had received an additional two votes. Again, this isn't too bizarre.. however I was curious and waited another minute and refreshed the voting results. Once more, they had received an additional two votes. I checked this for at least five minutes, and on the dot an additional two votes were granted.

I left the idea and went on my way to work, and when I came back I noticed that not only had this person jumped significantly from fourth place to third.. but they had jumped clearly entirely into first. I'm sorry, but someone who suddenly accrues 200+ votes in a matter of a few hours is something that I can't help but frown at. The voting results last year were not nearly as substantial, and while I realize that this is a simple popularity contest despite the initial content provided.. this was enough to fuel my fire enough to at least post this.

Again, I can't exactly prove this because I'm not one of the web administrators.. but I think that another form of voting should be used for next year with an encrypted key to keep the 'idea' of proxies from happening.

I agree. It's not really worth getting all wound up about it. It's almost a little insulting to the winners imo.

Congratulations to all winners!
I saw every entrance myself, and it was really hard to choose for wich one to vote.
Everyone was just really good.
Even if you didn't win, i hope to see a new entrance next year.
Maybe, if i improved enough, i'd enter too.

As I stated before, the contest entrant listings and archives already have such a poor layout as to suppress exposure for any entrant involved, and the award scheme simply suppresses it further by adding the possibility of redundant (and perhaps meaningless) awards. It can leave a bad taste in people's mouths, and something could be done to alleviate that. The true goal for any entrant is not bragging rights and glittering prizes; it is recognition by and participation in the community.

Hon- no offence, but perhaps it'd be better to suggest with a VISUAL how the layout could be better than complaining about it.

As for the way it was awarded, I see where you're coming from cause winning two awards, not matter whether they get a prize or not DOES feel a little higher than 1st place. It's Croik's choice though after all, whether it feels fair or not.

It may happen that we investigate a new voting method in future contests, but to be honest, no system in the world is going to stop friend voting or some measure of cheating (not that I'm convinced that was the case here anyway). Would people prefer that next year we declare all OCs be unpublished before the contest? That might cut down on voting for the most recognizable entries but it prevents people from getting feedback on their work, which I think is important.

That'll help OCs which are new, but alot have been advertised for months due to being made for fanfics/comics/ art before they decide to enter the contest. To be fair, you'd have to tell people that they can't enter characters that weren't made for the contest. That's just the deal with making a fan character for this comp :( Some people already have fanbase for their character. I know that there was a 50/50 pre existing and totally new OC line up for this contest and that didn't always boost the votes, but it is a variable.

That and art styles (for the fanart section) is VERY obvious to who made them. I know I knew half the characters by character name. The rest I knew who drew them so I pretty much knew who I was voting for.

I think that perhaps the top 10 should be given a standard award for making it to the tier perhaps, (a blue ribbon award with a sprite on it like the others? ^^; )and that a first and second place is given as an upgrade of that (Silver ribbon, gold ribbon?). That way, being top ten is a big pick me up (Which it should be!)and the rest is boasting rights/prizes, cause really- top ten is a REALLY good effort. This may also inspire higher grade entries- fighting for the top ten spot. Donno. Maybe that'll take from it being a competition. It's an option though :) If you do that, then it'll be nice to show the rest of the entries too :)

It was a suggestion. As I said, it takes away from it being a proper competition, but you wouldn't get complaints about it being fair or not.

only one way to prevent cheating really...

you would have to take the voting away leaving it up to the judges...the judges would give points based on a few catagorys...I dunno maybe somthing like
1.quality (how good it looks...i dunno what to change this for fanficion)
2.design (how interesting it is...for fanfiction it would be based on the character discription)
3.character (the info about the character and how well its presented)
4.fitting (not the right word im thinking of but how well it would fit into ace attorney)
5.one other catagory...cant think of it atm
making a total point value...though this doesn't guarantee one judges friends could get high marks...though I believe it wouldn't be hard for croik to tell if such cheap scoring were to happen by a judge.

Im not suggesting there is cheating or that we change how the contest is set up...those who do cheat though are pathetic...people really should just try and enjoy the competition and have fun making your oc. :godot:

Problem is then that it doesn't include the fans. The winner is based off a small group of judges. Plus it's a community thing ^^; It's a difficult thing to mediate.

See, part of me wants it to be for fun, but then again, if it's for fun, you wouldn't get the hard core entries, so there's needs to be a prize. That's why I though that having something as a consolation prize is nice. It could be seen as petty, but to some people, at least it's something they could... display in their thread or sig or something.

And I agree arkillian...that's the downside to judges only...and I didn't say it should be for fun I said people should have fun and enjoy the competition...and prizes indeed encourage competition...even if that's just to brag really :P
