Actually, I was pretty obsessed with the game when it first came out. I'd read Nintendo Power and try to see if I could beat the top scores listed in there.
And who could forget... "Do a barrel roll!" =P

I'm pretty sure Slippy's a guy, even if he does have the highest voice out of any of the characters. He sounds more... masculine, I guess? Yeah, that, in the GC games, I think. You can see how he sounds if you do a Snake smash-taunt when you're fighting Falco in SSBB. (Or do a Fox smash taunt on his new stage, but it's kinda random.)
I conclude this Slippy tangent with, "GIRLIE! GET THIS GUY OFF ME!"

I consider those reasons to LIKE him. (Admittedly can't stand Fox, character-wise)
And to be honest, personal favorite BEFORE the GC games came out was Leon, now it's Wolf.
