I don't talk in any other languages than english or polish.

Since times I previously posted in this topic, I started studying Japanese, too. Now I'm pretty good at it as for a person, who lives on the other side of the planet from Japan. Hope that in another half a year I'll be able to play PW in Japanese ^^

and btw I found out that I pretty much don't know English... Since there're around 500000 words in it... I don't know even 5% of it, simply put.

He fluwent en Engrish.

No seriously, English is my first language and I am almost fluent in Spanish. I've been taking it since Kindergarten and have been picking it up VERY slowly. I also know bits and pieces of German and Russian due to the fact my sister is fluent in both. I also know a lot of Italian. I took a trip there for 2 months and some of it rubbed off on me.

Your polish isn't that terrible like others, but not "jerzyk" (it's like a "hedgehog" word with typo, rz=ż). I think you mean "język"?

Polish is very uber hard for Americans, and even for Poles. For us some words are very hard...And this: "W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie", or "Wyindywidualizowaliśmy się z rozentuzjazmowanego tłumu." The Pole is fluent in polish when is 16 years old, American in english when 12, so.

After vacations i think i will learn some german.

Well, I'm pretty bad at grammar myself, so when it comes to zh, rz, z and "other" z (i don't have polish letters on my keyboard), I put them randomly. I'm much better at understanding the languadge when I hear it. And when I try talking, I sometimes use ukrainian words instead of polish, because when I speak the whole sentence, where most words are same as ukrainian, it's hard to think about one different word. Studying polish wasn't that hard, but mastering it is a different thing.

Dutch is crazy. :D My Dutch friend Vera was over at my place last winter and she taught me some words and phrases. To me it sounds like some weird hybrid of English and German.

When I picked her up from the airport I soon noticed that I had some serious trouble getting used to speaking English. More than once I blurted out something in Finnish without even thinking. XD
"*says something*"
"... Huh?"
"... Oh, sorry. That was totally Finnish."
Then again, she did that couple of times too.

That's funny, I'm from Holland, and every time we complain about how difficult Latin is (we're taught Latin at my school), everyone's like: "Well, at least we don't have to learn Finnish, that's even ten times more difficult." But I can understand how Dutch sounds difficult and funny. I personally love Finnish. I really want to learn it someday.

Ah, yes, Finnish is full of crazy-ass grammar. But I suppose the pronouciation is easy for a Dutch person. At least Vera picked it up quite fast. :D

English is my first language, while French is my second. My mum's a French teacher, so I've pretty much grown up with it; I'm pretty fluent, too (although I can't say the same for my brother.)

You're right, the pronounciation is not that difficult. I've discovered that you pretty much say words the way you write them in Finnish. You can't say that about Dutch.

I don't know if you could call Flemish a different language then Dutch, but almost nobody talks Dutch like it's taught at school here in Flanders (I mean, "gij", "ge" and "zijt" instead of "jij", "je" and "bent")

I'm going to try Japanese when I get older too maybe :D

Flemish is still the same language though. In Brabant, we say 'ge' and 'gij' too sometimes, combined with some other weird things, but it's still called Dutch.

And I love the Flemish dialect :keiko:

Yo soy Mexicano-Americano.

English was my second language. I barely spoke English before Maple was born. I started speaking more English than Spanish when Maple came around. Occasionally I speak Spanish, but more often, I speak English.

I'm currently trying to learn Japanese. I'm planning on taking Japanese for my Junior and Senior years. Here's why:
1) My family is mostly Mexican, but I have a Japenese aunt somehow.
2) I'm a fan of Anime.
3) I plan on going to Japan someday.
My High School has 6 languages. They are:
- French
- Spanish
- Korean
- Chinese (Mandarin)
- Japanese
- Filipino (Tagalog)
Dang. I was hoping to learn greek.
I even have a Eurotalk CD-ROM for Japanse. I only know a little bit. (God, the Kanji is so hard to read!)

I speak a little bit of French, Italian, and German as well. I have Eurotalk CD-ROMs for those languages as well.

I can speak Russian. As you can plainly see, I'm also fluent in English :edgy:
And, well, I'm still bad at it but I learn German language aswell.
I also try to learn Japanese.. All by myself, sadly. ^^'
And that's about it.

I know English, obviously, and I used to know enough Japanese to ask basic questions like where the bathroom is.

I'm currently taking German for graduation/college requirements, and I know just enough to work at it by myself. I'm nowhere near fluent though.

If you are German, you can quite good comprehend Dutch, since some words sound a litte similar and others again confuse you a lot.
And I heard about Finnish being ass-hard too as well.

Also, GAH! FRENCH!
All those gay accents and here and there. It is my mother tongue (but unfortunatley learned it), however if you gotta learn it in school it quite pissed me off. Later I was forced (for better or worse) to stop learning it.

Learning a language in school is basically useless if not in the immersion classes. I know no French, despite having supposedly learned it in French class.

Sadly, I can only speak English ;_; it's my goal to become fluent in any other language. I don't care which, but I will learn one someday.

Sometimes that's the case. Really, though, it depends on how your brain works. My mum teaches French, and she and I can speak it fluently, usually with each other. My brother, though, is awful (Blimey, he can't even remember half the names of the basic foods you learn in 7th grade.)
Not-so-long long story short, either you're a language person or you're not. Every person's brain is wired differently.

Ahem. Don't mind me, I'm just being a nerd. Carry on.

Athena von Karma > Congrats on being able to speak French fluently at your age, I'm impressed :)

By the way, I know a fair deal of "geniuses". They all have different personalities, but deep down they're all somewhat insecure and lacking in self-confidence. Bragging about your abilities is one way to deal with that, granted, but it's not the most productive: it makes other people doubt them more than the opposite, and doesn't motivate you to work so you can make the most out of them. Embracing your own doubts rather than trying too hard to hide them can do wonders. But I digress.

En tout cas, j'espère que tu continueras de cultiver ton français autant que possible ; c'est une si belle langue, ce serait dommage de la perdre!

Well, I'm obviously an English speaker, but I'm about to take my third year in German when school starts up. It'll actually be considered two years of it since it's German 3 and 4 and I'll be taking it everyday.

I know a tiny bit of Spanish, though. I took it my first year of high school because my dad wouldn't let me take German....

Well in Finnish we don't have prepositions like "of" and "about", instead almost all the words inflect. And because that means a lot of memorizing Finnish is commonly stated as a very hard language. Instead pronunciation isn't so horrible in Finnish.

As a native Finnish I speak of course Finnish and the country's second language Swedish, if not fluently but somehow understandably. My mother has cousins in England which has always encouraged me to study or speak English, I'd say my English is beyond fluent.

Besides those languages, I've also studied Russian and German. As a matter of fact me and my German group visited Berlin just when Iceland's volcanoes erupted, and we were stuck in there for few extra days.
