Yeah, don't hesitate to get creative with your background. You can find some brushes online, and try to take your time on making the background. Play around with the program, see if you creative some neat looking effects, getting to know your program really helps.

Incidentally, a good sig needs flow, lighting, and should catch the eye. And save as PNG. ... Actually, I'm not sure if that counts for graphics. *thinks*

I also think that the Vera signature is AWESOME - the backgrounds and drawings are so typical of Vera to draw!
