Ahh, shading... my mortal enemy ever since I first started drawing at all...
I have absolutely no idea of how to place shadow right, so, could you, please, tell me where to place the shading? That'd be very helpful. ^^;
I also have self-critiscm... Once I posted the sprites here, I noticed that the blinking one still has some fragments on some frames which I should have deleted.
Udgy hereby decalres me guilty of carelessness.
Hm... yeah, maybe I should try again with Lilie, according to the tutorial... It's just that I don't know which character's sprites would fit her... also, she has a rather unique pose, where she spins her pigtail around her finger... I can't leave it out, because it's plot-important. I don't know how I could do that by editing other character's sprites. Then again, I probably won't be able to get it right anyway. I already suck at drawing hands, I don't to imagine how much I will suck at drawing a MOVING hand. -.-;

The only tip I can give for shading is that you need to STUDY SPRITES. That's how I learned, I grabbed a sprite, opened up paint and looked for patterns in the shading. Be aware though, that AAI, AJ, and PW all of different shading styles, and that the shading for almost every sprite from 1-1 to 1-4 is god-awful.

Due to certain circumstances, I ended up playing Trials and Tribulations before the first game. When I first saw April May's sprites, I was already used to the likes of Dahlia and Franny, so when she came into picture I was all like:
What the heck is this?

So, I actually took Regina Berry's Sprites and played around to the max, until I got myself something better than that pathetic thing in my first post.
This is the result:
Spoiler: OC Lilie is NOT malformed! Yeay!
The pose is perfect for her and, most importantly, it looks WAY better than try one! Still not perfect, but improved! ^^
This Sprite's shading is a huge contradiction, your honor!!!
The Prosecution agrees! The Defendant is violating the laws of physics!
Well... if it's like this...
(I'm having way too much fun with these emotiocons... O-o;)
Anyway...
Yeah, the shading ended up horrible, but I only noticed that once the Sprites was as good as done... I don't want to start all over again.
...At least not today...
So for now, it will stay the way it is.

So, I attempted some re-coloring and Frankensteining to figure out how much of a Maya-lookalike Iris
would be if she was a Spirit Medium channeling Young!Ema. (Yes, I know, I'm writting too much fanfic).Anyway, here's the result:
Spoiler: Kimono-black-hair-Ema (A.K.A.: "Darling, my cousin channeled my replacement-character")
I think this proofs one thing: No matter how simmilar Ema may look to Maya, they are far, far from identical and Ema wearing a Kimono and having black hair wouldn't make it a lot harder to tell them apart.
Now you may wonder: "If it was her point to proof that Ema with black hair doesn't look like Maya, why didn't she just make it so that Maya was 'channeling' her? Would have saved time recoloring."
No! That would have been TOO obvious!
Note that this edit does NOT mean that I would like to kill off Ema. XD

Say, why do I get an error every time I try to edit the main post, so I can update the Sprite Collection?

This is actually just a single frame of an Animation I am working on right now. I wanted to do a less "goofy" shock-animation for Maya, for when she's seriously emotionally shaken and wants to "shield" herself.
I got that idea because in my fanfic, there's a part where Phoenix has to break a set of Psyche Locks on her.
The complete Animation, if I ever finish it, will include the purple pearls in her hair shattering Adrian-Andrews-style.
I always wanted to see those things breaking.I used Dahlia-Iris's shocked animation for this frame. She was the most obvious choice, since she's wearing a simmilar Kimono.

...Or rather, Kid-Trucy-Day!
I made those two Sprites based on Fanart-sketches that I made not to long ago.
Let's start with Trucy in a White-Dress:
I think it's obvious on whose dress this one is based, even though it's not exactly the same (compare if you don't believe me.) Also, I gave her a little hairclip, because I thought it'd be cute.
I admit, the shading on this one is incredibly cheap... I really have to practise drawing wrinkles on clothing.
Next, Kimono-Trucy!:
Should Naruhobo ever be invited to a Matsuri-festival in Kurain, he now has something to dress his daughter in for that occasion. XD
I think it's obvious that this one was heavily inspired by Pearly, right down to the Ribbon actually being her pixel-edited Pretzel. All of the colors for the Kimono were grabbed from Pearl's Kimono as well, except for the purple pattern... That's from Maya's robe.
I should probably mention that I used Lawful Magician's "Free-for-use" Young Trucy base for both of those Sprites, so credit for editing out Trucy's cape goes to her.

1.) Lawful Magician clearly gave official permission to use her bases. She clearly labeled which sprites were free for use and which not. All the Trucy bases are.

Young Maya:
Obviously a Sprite Edit of Pearly. I first wanted to recolor the robe, but then I noticed that on the photograph of little Maya, which was shown in the end of T&T, her robe had the same color as Pearl's, so I let it stay. I removed the pearls from her necklace for the same reason. So you could say, this is supposed be Maya from back when that picture was taken.
... Except that Maya was 2 years back then and Pearly is 9... AH, screw the ages!
Civilian Misty Fey
Actually a work-in-progress. There are many things that I am still not happy with about this Sprite. The color of the Magatama, for example. I made it red because that was pretty much the only color not taken yet, but now I think that it looks ugly...
I will also do a version of her in Medium-Kimono, but I choose to do a civilian version first. Dunno, I somehow thought that I am doing to many Kimonos and should dress my Sprites in something else for once. XD

Little Maya is sooo cute, too! She does look exactly like the photograph. The only thing that looks a little odd are Pearl's large eyes.Civilian Misty Fey looks nice, although I do spot some tiny white dots. And the position of the pearl necklace seems a little awkward, IMO.

Yeah, that happened because I took that arm from Ema. (Lol, first I kill her, then I dismember her... I'm horrible...)
Anyway, something went wrong when I tried to color it with Maya's skin-color, which is the reason why it's a little off. I'll correct that mistake sometime, however.
As for Misty Fey, I'll probably redo huge portions of the Sprite. I'm, however, currently working on editing her Elise-Deauxnim Sprites to make them look more like her Pre-DL-6 self. Time will tell which Misty Sprite will be finished sooner.
Oh, someone else did a Pearly-Maya before? I didn't know that! O-O

As for her eyes, yeah, I tried to make her eyes more like Maya's by recoloring them... didn't work 100%. Gotta think of something else. Maybe Frankensteining on normal Maya's eyes... I guess that may work...
Anyway, today I show you something simple... which I will probably have to overhaul completly anyway, since I am decidedly NOT satisfied with it.

I updated the Civilian Misty Fey Sprite. This is the new, better version:
Reduced the size of her right shoulder and corrected the necklace's position. I also changed the color of her Magatama to white, because I thought it fit her better. I know that Mia's Magatama is white as well, but I don't think that's too much of a problem... is it?
Now, here's the version of her in Kimono:
This is obviously a Sprite-Edit of her Elise Deauxnim Sprite and one of my most complicated ones yet. The Kimono isn't purpleish-pink, because I didn't want it to look like a Hazakurain-robe. The biggest problem here is the shading of her hair, which looks nothing like the shading on her mugshot. I'm not good at copying stuff like this, so this the closest I came...

The shading of the hair is now closer to what it looks like in the game. It's not as soft as it originally was anymore now, but I guess that's the sacrifice I have to make. I also corrected the shading on the necklace a bit and added the ribbon (which I previously forgot) to her Obi. Oh, apropos Obi, it lacked shading. I corrected that as well.
I think it looks a lot better now.
