So... Since I'm spending huge junks of my sparetime drawing, I thought I might use this place to show off a few Ace Attorney related sketches and pictures I've done.

Well, let's start out with the ones which are actually done and look good, alright?

First, we have Trucy and Polly :minuki: :odoroki:

The story behind this pic is that I was at MaConvention, sitting there in a Dahlia Cosplay in the Fanart-Room and starting to scribble a female pose... When I realized that I was scribbling YET ANOTHER Dahlia (And I had, like, 30 sketches of her by that point), I first wanted to ABORT MISSION, but then decided that the pose turned out too well, so I made a Trucy out of it, instead of a Dahlia. And since I didn't want Apollo to feel neglected, he gets to hold her spotlight. XD
Colored with COPIC markers. Too bad my scanner killed the colors. -.-;



Next would be my reaction to the theory on TV-tropes.org that Kay Faraday would wind up as the Prosecutor for the next Ace Attorney game :keylady: :

Somebody pointed out that her bust may be just a tad too large. This is most likely the result of me missing Mia. :mia: :mia-maya: Already two games without her and her advice... My lawyer-gaming-life feels empty.

A~nyway, I used Byrne Faraday, Mia (of course) and even a touch of Edgeworth as Inspiration for the design. (Notice the way she's wearing the scarf? Yeah. :edgy: )

She wears the Prosecutor's Badge, because I figured if anyone would go against the Tradition NOT to wear it, it'd be Kay.

I fail at drawing High Heels. X-x




Now, for the exact opposite of aging up an underaged character... age DOWN some adult character!

OK, given, Nick's and Edgey's faces are kind of... Off. :ack: :wacky-edgy:

And Larry... well his outlines were sketched by my sister, who has an a lot cuter drawing-style than me, explaining why he didn't turn out as a failure. :butzthumbs:

But I like the poses and the shading. And the general look. That's at least something. ^^;

...That was my first Ace Attorney Fanart. Ever. I drew it on a Park Bench. With nothing but the instruction manual of AAI on hand for reference. And I had barely ever drawn male adults before. Except Link from The Legend of Zelda. Who is known for being effeminate to the max.

Does that explain all your questions about this abomination? Thank you.

Still, I showed it. Why? BECAUSE IT FEATURES NICK AND EDGEY HAVING A DRINK, THAT'S WHY! :b33r:

Yeah, I even gave her Elise Deauxnim's Katana staff. I made this one before playing a Apollo Justice, which is the main reason why she doesn't look like Ema Skye. :sassy:

OK, now, remember how I said before that Nick's and Edgey's drinking failure was my first Ace Attorney Pic? Well, that wasn't... quite true... Wait a sec.

I'm among the people who are convinced that she will a) let her hair grow out and b) be a striking beauty. Note that this one was sketched in a car. A moving one. That's why the lines are soo... unclean. Not that my lines would ever be clean. :yuusaku: And no, I absolutely didn't erase a hideous sketch of normal Pearl from the upper right corner of this pic. :sawit:




Fanfiction Illustration


Alright, the following sketches are all actually "Artwork" for my fanfiction 'Complete Turnabout' (Which actually has 12 chapters yet, but I only uploaded 2 here yet. ^^; ) and thus contain some spoilers for said fanfic.

The fanfic has a court-record section on every chapters' end, thus I need to make sketches of everything... Crime Scene Photos, Character designs, evidence... I want the reader to be able to guess along. I'll only upload actual sketches of people here though. ^^;

First of all, the sketch Work In Progress for the cover, which I will turn into the actual cover soon:

This picture probably confuses you, so let me explain some things too you:

Firstly: The fanfic takes place in an alternate timeline, where DL-6 never happened. So all of the characters lifes went slightly different from how we know it from the games... Alternate!Maya is a Pop-Idol, Alternate!Edgeworth was never Traumatized and Von-Karma-fied, Alternate!Phoenix... for some reason yet to be revealed in the story became a Prosecutor.
Except the main character isn't Alternate!Phoenix. It's Canon!Phoenix. Yes, Canon Phoenix finds himself suddenly in a world were everybody wants thinks he's an heartless jerk. On the wrong side of the courtroom no less. Well, that's pretty much the best Premise-Summary I can give.

Secondly: Yes, there is on unfamiliar face on there. That's an OC of mine. She's eating Meron-Pan. And, yes, she looks grumpy.
She's a brat. I don't want to say much more about her.

That thing sticking out from above Phoenix' head is supposed to be Teen!Apollo's finger. I think this will looker better in the final version of the pic...

Oh, and Idol!Maya's pose is based on Songstress!Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Since she's, you know, a spirit-being-summoning-girl who turned Diva as well...


Yes, lots and lots of characters. And shall I tell you something? That's not even HALF of the fanfic's cast. Yes, I am a little nuts, writting such a huge thing... -_-;

Medium-Kimono and Civilian. Her hairstyle is the one she had on the mugshot from the DL-6 case. I like it better than her Elise Deauxnim Hairstyle. Her necklace has so many Pearls, because she's a higher, more skilled medium than Maya or Pearl.

Yes, I know the buttons on his Gakuran are on the wrong side... *sigh*. Anyway, Polly is making an Appearance in this fanfic as a 15 years old Teenager. The reason his spikes are not quite the way they are supposed to be is because he has yet to find a brand of hair gel worthy his CHORDS OF STEEL (TM). :-P

Trucy (the young version) actually wears three different outfits over the course of this fanfiction, which has something to do with a kind of "project" she is part of. One of those outfits is her usual (red) Magician garb, but the other two are actually costumes. This is one of them. And, yes, it's supposed to look like Lamiroir's dress. Just for fun and reference.

A picture of Feenie and Iris (non-disguised Iris, that's it.) :sick: :ayame: It's actually a complete rip-off of that one postcard that circulates around the net with Feenie and Dollie on it. But I was too lazy to make up my own poses... especially for Phoenix. :phoenix: *fails at drawing manly men*

Now, for two highly spoiler-tastic pics which show the crime-scene of the murder which takes place during the story. Since those obviously show the victim, you probably should only look if you don't mind knowing who dies.

"Meep!" *hides from Snackoo-shooting Ema Fans* I'm sorry, I'm sorry, OK?! I needed a dramatic victim! Someone who wasn't a face-less nobody! And she just... fit for several reasons. I actually like Ema a lot, really! That's why I thought her death would be very dramatic... Please don't kill me...

Yes, the pose is ripped off Mia's death... on purpose. In order to give Phoenix an almost heart-attack. Because I love cruel echoes.

Two new ones!

First, a "Title banner" for my fanfic, made from the upper third of the Cover-sketch:

Next, we have my interpretation of Manfred von Karma's older daughter, whom he mentions once or twice, but whom we never get to see.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Franziska's older sister...

Hildegard von Karma!!

I looked at Concept Art of Franziska to come up with her design, but tried to make her more "motherly" and, most of all, domestic. That's because in my interpretation, Manfred von Karma married of his older daughter to a friend's son as soon as possible, since he realized that she didn't have what it takes to become a worthy sucessor to him.

Hildegard is happily married, but slightly bored by her life and still has a certain fasicination with law and punishment, inherited from her father.

In terms of personality, she is calm almost to the point of being creepy and never looses her nerves, not even while beating up her children. Her face only rarely changes its expression. She also always speeks in a high pitched, motherly voice, even while recounting the most gruesome facts. She does this deliberatly to frighteen and impress people.

Now, first her name: "Hildegard von Bingen" was a famous nun, who was incredibly well versed with medicin and a good cook. So much for her name.

Her clothing are based on the "Dirndl" an German-Austrian traditional dress, usually asociated with milk maids. I own one myself. They're pretty, really. Braids are usually worn with a Dirndl, which is the main reason her hair is braided. Most of all, however, I wanted to give her connections to Franziska, which is why many parts of her clothing obviously mirror her.

As for "Why the heck is she carrying a wooden spoon?!", let me tell me the most stereotypical way for a mother in Germany to deal with a nasty child: That's right, smacking them with a wooden spoon. So the spoon is to Hildegard what the whip is to Franziska. Provocate her and she will smack you around with it, while smiling and saying "Now, that was very, very nasty of you. Seems like you need discipline." *smile*

And, yeah, I know, she looks not much older than Franzy on this pic. Let's just pretend this is her from somewhere around Turnabout Reminiscence, when she was 20 or something, alright?

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! ^^

I actually came up with the concept for Hildegard when I wondered why exactly we never saw anything of Franzy's older sibling when she clearly has one... ^^ I just love filling the gaps in Canon.

Umm, sorry if it feels like I'm stalking you in all of your "Present Evidence" threads.
It... it's just... it's so unfair that one person can be so talented in so many branches of the PW fandom! Grrr!
And by "grrr," I mean "I'm jealous"; and by "I'm jealous," I mean "you're awesome."

I love the very first picture! It's particularly hilarious because it's such a believable situation (poor Polly getting stuck as the lighting boy in the background, heh-heh).

That Prosecutor :keylady: design is awesome! I can totally see it. And I don't think you fail at drawing heels at all.

Your Master-Maya is beautiful. That ensemble looks great on her. And I especially like her face.
Your vision of older-Pearl is really sweet, too!

Chibi-objection = total cuteness. Little :phoenix:'s admiration is the cutest part. I never realized he had something in kanji on his shirt... Do you happen to know what it says? ^^

The Wonder Twins sketch is probably my favorite -- their faces are gorgeous, and their hair, and the way :that-b-word:'s dress flows... Dahlia is looking WAY too sweet and innocent there! I'm looking at her like "aww" when I'm supposed to be looking at her like "grrr!" -- and not in the "you're awesome" way. And the poses are really interesting as well.

Finally, I already mentioned it while commenting on your fic, but for some reason I really love the crime scene photo #2. It makes me feel kinda bad. I shouldn't love seeing a dead Ema. It's just so interestingly detailed! It makes me wonder if there's a contradiction in there somewhere... *wants to be smart and deductive but unfortunately is one of those players who usually doesn't figure things out until they're officially revealed*

So, yeah, great job on all of them!

Well, I love Ema too. I just hate it when the victims of the murder cases are faceless nobodies. That's why I took Ema... because it's sad.
I'm like that when writting. I try to cause emotional situations.

Oh, the Kanji isn't really the symbol on the shirt... I couldn't figure out what that pattern on the shirt was actually supposed to be, so I just wrote the Kanji for "Dragon" (As in "RYUUichi") there. ^^

As for the Crime Scene photo, just go ahead and try to guess. Having fun is what counts! ^^

She (my friend) drew Dahlia but, since she lacked any kind of graphic program whatsoever, asked me to color it. I did so.

First, my try to design an Apollo Justice-Era Franziska Von Karma :franny: :

Well, alright... in the end, I didn't find much I could change. I slightly adjusted her proportions to make her head smaller in comparison to her body, changed her hairstyle a bit to a hybrid between her 18-years old and her 13-years old hairstyle. I also took away her sleeves and gave her long gloves instead... the remaining changes are just minor stuff. I mostly tried to minimalize her resemblance to her father, in order to symbolize character development that I think she would have gotten by this point, through Edgeworth's influence. The Kanji on the picture read her Japanese name, "Karuma Mei", as well as the word "Kenji" which means "Prosecutor". I mostly added them in order to practise writting Kanji... I suck at it. Pretty badly. :larry:


Next we have my Original Character, which you might or might not know from my Fanfiction, Lilie Heatherd:

The outlines were handdrawn, but everything else was done on the PC. I tried to make it look like "official" Artwork. This ambition failed due to the fact that my style differs too much from what Ace Attorney Artwork looks like. There's a lot of horrible flaws in this pic and I once again realized how much I suck at shading, but it's still the best one I did of her yet. The only thing that deeply bugs me is the fact that the position of her hips makes her look like Calisto Yew... That wasn't intentional. I can't draw too many poses without reference, so I just posed before my mirror and tried to draw what I saw... And apparently I did Calisto's pose without even realizing it. When I finally saw the simmilarity, it was already too late to change it. -.-;

I really hope that the readings for the Kanji which I choose for her name are all correct... But, seeing how I only just started studying Japanology/Japan Studies, I barely know anything about how to use Kanji yet. :payne:
Her japanese name is supposed to be "Tsubaki Yoko" and I tried to hide several puns in there. Firstly, when ignoring the "Ki" and the "Ko", the name can be rearranged into "Yotsuba", which means "Four-leaved clover". I guess it's obvious what this refers to if you look at her. Her last name "Tsubaki" comes from the flower "Tsubaki", better known as "Camellia". This red flower often symbolizes friendship, but also blooddrops, vanity and death. However, I didn't write it with the Kanji it's usually written with, but with the Kanji for "Envy", "Plant/Leaf" and "Soul/Aura". The first name, "Yoko" is written with the Kanji "Yon" for "four" and "Ko" for "Child", which is a common japanese name ending.

I tried to choose everything regarding her name carefully... I hope no mistakes happened. :lana:

Ohhh, Franzy looks gorgeous. :franny:
Such subtle changes, yet she really does seem different.
She still looks classy, just maybe slightly less old-fashioned.
And that layered hair looks very nice. ^^

Very cool Japanese name for Ms. Heatherd! It's awesome how much thought you put into it.
I like her color scheme; it looks really unique.
It'll be great to be able to be able to imagine what her whole body looks like while reading your fic!
Also, Calisto's pose suits her just fine -- that must be what they teach you in "obnoxious defense attorney" school. :-P
(Although, I must say, Lilie's obnoxiousness is much more likable than Calisto's.)

Hakari and Majo (=witch), the new Gyakuten girls from AAI2 and PL VS. AA. After somebody posted the Majo-artwork in the "Layton VS. Gyakuten" thread, I just had to draw this. They look nice next to each other, don't they? ^^

Still can't get over how ridiculous Hakari's hairstyle is. Majo's hair is a little weird too... Looks like she just cut of the tip of every bang without paying attention to how it looks overall...

I like Majo's design better. It doesn't look as overblown as Hakari's. Even though Hakari has a pretty strong, elegent vibe to her...

By the way, what's up with all the BRAIDS in the Gyakuten series lately? Ever since T&T, there's been a LOT more braids in this series! Dahlia, Iris, Thallassa... Trucy had a braid too in her concept art... and now those two. And that when they never featured any characters with braids in the series before that ! Wow...

I will finish that pic, and if it costs me my mind. Bet on it.

Wow... You really think Lilie is a that good character? :udgy: I mean... I'm trying to write her in a way that makes her blend in with the canon charas 100%, but you called her "More likeable than Callisto"...
...An OC, more likeable than a Canon Chara... that's just... OMG....

@kimchi-artist: Oh, the fanfic is gonna be LOOOOONG. Probably somewhere around the 60 chapter mark. You can thank my 6 sideplots (YES) and my disability to keep things short for this. :nick-sweat:

...Mikagami's hair really is ridiculous. :-P (But, ridiculously awesome.) Somehow, I never noticed the lightning-curve at the end of her wing-bang until just now.
And, huh, I never noticed the braid thing...! Interesting observation...

Well, it's just that Calisto got on my nerves upon first meeting her in the game, while Lilie made me laugh upon first meeting her in the fic. Of course, Calisto was still an epic character, and it's not necessarily a bad thing for a character to get on your nerves (all things considered with regards to Calisto, I'd say it was appropriate!). Liking is awfully subjective, and I'm not in a position to claim which character is better, but I'd say Lilie is indeed 100% on par with any canon AA supporting character, because I could completely imagine her in a real game (in terms of design, personality, role -- and, heck, even name!). And, if she were canon, she'd be higher than Calisto on my list of characters I "like." ...is what I meant. If any of that makes sense. [/endrambling]

...By the way, 60 chapters = ...WHOA. ...Usually I would groan over the thought of reading something that long -- but, in the case of your fic, I'll probably be craving more even after 60. :edgy:

@Arkillian: Those two are new characters from Gyakuten Kenji and Professor Layton VS. Gyakuten Saiban. I thought fanart of the two of them side by side would be nice, so I drew a pic! ;-)

I started that pic almost half a year ago, which is why it's not up to my current standart. I could do better now. I wish I had finished it earlier... My jump in skills in this thing is pretty apparent in the discrepancy between Maya's Dahlia's and Iris' shading and Mia's and Pearl's shading. Mia and Pearl were done last, so they look best by far.
Why didn't I finish the pic earlier? Because I had lost my BS-Pink Copic marker, that's why! :larry: But never fear! It was under my bed! :edgy: (Yeah, I am that chaotic. :payne: )

Anyway, the finalized Fey collage turned out great!

I really love Maya's whole pose! :maya:
And I like the style of eyes you used for the twins.

The hair, especially, I think... :delilah-hair: ...is the nicest-looking part of each of the characters.
And, even knowing nothing about shading, I can definitely see what you mean about the improvement!
The coloring on both Pearl and Mia look particularly awesome!
