One thing that ticks me off is how they overuse dramatic moments where the defense thinks "Oh no, I'm screwed." It's cool if the defense actually is screwed, but when the contradiction is obvious and I'm just waiting for Phoenix/Apollo/Mia/Miles to calm the hell down so I can present the evidence, it's just obnoxious and makes the main characters look like spazzes.

Oh my GOD, I know! It's so annoying to have only one save slot! I hate when I want to play a case again and I can't play it because if I do I'll erase my sister's game. I'm looking at you, 2-4.

The only thing I hate about this series is the fanbase. I find it ironic that a series of games that revolves around logic and thought can have such an idiotic fanbase. On top of all that everyone's terrified of ANY form of change that comes to the series. Oh and I thought regular yaoi fanbrats were bad... the EdgeWright fans take yaoi fangirl stupidity to a whole new level... I could go on but you get the picture.
But that's why I'm here. To show that in a sea of idioticness there's still a shread of intelligence in this fanbase (yes, I have a huge ego).
I'm not coming back. I'm done with this fanbase. You're all up-tight, nit-picking, hypocrites who are TERRIFIED of change. Getting banned just for standing up for myself... I'm never coming back. Goodbye forever you brats.

This. I want to replay a chapter in the middle of a case, but I don't want to start from the beginning of the case. It'd also be nice to have a chapter's list once you finish the case so you can start straight from a particular section.

Also, I hate how you can only present one thing to move the story forward. And sometimes I want to move forward with something, I have to present that exact something. Sometimes I know what I need to do but don't know what piece of evidence best to represent my idea.

For example, in 2-4, I only had once chance to present something to DeKiller, I knew what I wanted to tell him (that Matt had been spying on him), so I presented the spy camera, but got it wrong.

I know how the OP said "no specific characters", but I have to point out one thing about Phoenix: he just never catches a break until the very end of the case. Every single case he's done except for 2-4 I guess, he's gotten not only his client innocent, but catches the murderer in the same trial. He beat not only one of the best prosecutors with a perfect win streak, but also his TEACHER. And he STILL gets pissed on in every single case until the not guilty verdict is reached. I mean I know people like to cheer for the underdog, but don't you think this kind of...I dunno, demeans every single case he's done up to that latest trial?

Spoiler: AJ
For what it's worth, this is completely turned around in 4-1; the judge can't heap enough praise on Phoenix and basically lets him run the entire trial, even though Nick was supposedly an insidious evidence forger. :yuusaku:

1 I hate how easily introduced people are to the series like with...
Spoiler: AAI
Like how Kay was introduced. She literaly just jumped into the series and Miles accepted her way to easily and let her investagate a murder with him even though he only knew her for five minutes and she's as suspicious as hell

2 The sheer idiocy of some characters :sadshoe: :larry: I mean it's sort of cute at first but after a while it just gets pathetic.
3 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That kind of reaction to something that has the drama potential of telling someone their fly is down.

Yeah! I don't like how you can't change the speed of the text either (although I guess I'm used to the speed now). At least you can fast forward through the parts you already read. However, sometimes you can't fast scroll through the penalty text, because it changes. yes sometimes the penalty dialogue is hilarious, but most of the time they just use the generic ones and I wish you can skip through them faster.....

Also related to text scrolling, I wish there's a history button, that keeps like that last 3 or 4 sentences, 'cause sometimes I'm not paying attention and go past a statement, I miss it, or want to recheck it for something, and I can't go back :sadshoe:

Yes, definantly! I always get so annoyed with myself when I accidently skip text. It happens to me all the time because my fingernails are really long and sometimes end up poking the screen while I'm playing.
One other thing that bugs me is not being able to present profiles in AJ. I miss running around showing pictures to random people like a retard! I think it really adds a lot to the game when you can get people's opinions of everyone. It also produces really funny dialogue and interesting comments.

:sadshoe: It's really disheartening to see so many people who said they disliked the fanbase... Why join a community like Court-Records if you're just going to look down upon the other people here?
I truly think fandoms are beautiful things: it's wonderful to be a part of a community of people in which, no matter how different everyone is, they are all bonded by a shared interest. It's especially wonderful when that interest is something as great as Ace Attorney, with such potential for great discussions and great fanworks.
There are so many extremely talented, friendly, and insightful Ace Attorney fans on this forum alone. Of course, there are some obnoxious, rude, and ignorant people scattered throughout as well, but those are inevitable in any group of people. Making such negative generalizations about a group -- especially a group that you're a part of, yourself -- isn't very fair at all.

Ummm... Anywayyyy...

I guess my least favorite thing about the series is how there is often only one possible answer that will let the game advance. Like, you can know what the contradiction is, but if you don't present the exact piece of evidence (even if there's another piece that appears to suggest something very similar), it doesn't work.

Or, you can even present the right piece of evidence, but if you present it on the wrong piece of testimony... grrr! It can be frustrating!!

I can understand why the way the game's programmed would make that so, and I guess it makes things more challenging, anyway... So... It's not really so bad. :-P

I also totally agree with the above post that the PW legal system is seriously messed up in how it's willing to deem people guilty of crimes they hardly committed: a fourth-grade kid, by total accident? a teenage girl whose body is being possessed by a spirit who actually did the murdering!?
They're sure lucky they didn't actually do it, even though they really shouldn't have been held accountable even if they did!
It's especially annoying when you think about how witnesses who are obviously guilty are able to get off so easily when the defense lawyer just makes a few mistakes!!
But this sort of oppressive system is necessary to create the awesome drama the series provides, so it's excusable. The crazy court system with ridiculously stacked odds is what makes PW what it is, what makes PW fun to play, what makes PW ( :phoenix: ) fun to play as, and what makes it so satisfying to actually win a case. =D

Aside from specific characters. DO NOT TALK ABOUT SPECIFIC CHARACTERS OR PARINGS HERE.

Is it possible to answer this question by more generically stating that the lack of any insight into the characters' personal lives, interests or preferences, romantically and otherwise, has remained a disappointment for me? I perceive that as less harping on the lack of a specific canon pairing, and more a desire that some pairings, ANY pairings, were actually made canon. Ace Attorney gives us great insight into the professional relationships of the characters yet, even despite having access to Phoenix's internal thoughts, we rarely truly get to know them.

I understand the argument behind Capcom's decision to keep everything deliberately vague (so we can all choose to define each character's interests and preferences as we wish,) but I think Capcom's approach basically inevitably leads to the Apollo Justice outcome where we're all frustrated because suddenly all of Phoenix's close friends (and potential romantic interests) disappeared from his life without the game offering us the slightest clue why.

I'd love it if the next AA game cold-opened by showing two characters on a date. Any two characters. (Again, it's not about advocating a specific pairing.)

Aside from that, from a gameplay perspective, it'd be great to actually have more opportunities to actually make choices that diverged into separate outcomes. This would contribute to less a single narrative strain and more a choose-your-own-adventure type feel, where cases had multiple outcomes. Imagine only having a limited amount of time to investigate, and having to choose whether to collect evidence from location A or location B. And you could still win the case regardless of which location you investigated, but you just had two very different trial experiences (with different witnesses interrogated, different evidence utilized, etc.) depending on what you chose.

...I'd enjoy that. And it wouldn't require all that much more programming than your standard Ace Attorney case, insofar as you're still relying on the traditional point-and-click format (it'd be a hassle to script the different outcomes, but I think it'd be well worth the investment.)

I too think the navigation system needs some work. How about letting us bring up a map with all the points of interest we can just tap on and woosh go directly there. That's just part of it, I think the whole interface needs a complete revamp. I want to see more of the artwork on screen, less clutter, easier flow of menu's etc. etc. Come on, this is the sort of thing that should be considered for future AA games, or any re-issue of existing games :yogi:

Aside from the obvious "I don't like it when the game ends", but I really hate it when you can't present contradictory evidence at some point, because the characters haven't figured something out you did already...

Especially when it's really obvious...

And why hating the fanbase?

I think the fanbase is actually pretty good (if you can ignore all the stuff about random pairings...)

Seconded
But then again, sometimes having to pass through to a new aim opened new Plot in crossing the way of other characters you met "on your way"
If you could just Jump around everywhere... well, yeah.

Otherwise, the only thing that really bugged me about the games is that they were so short in total time... :<

Not that I've ever done that, but it could happen.

Overruled.
If I were one Penalty before Game Over I'd save as often as possible as a safety reflex, and hence wouldn't have much to redo if I couldn't pic the photo.
And I certainly HAVE been at these points because I don't constantly fail-restart and the pentalty kept increasing xD

I don't really mind the linerarity (sp?) actually, but hey, to each their own ^^
The other mentioned errors kinda only strike me as "difficulty" in the game - and I like difficulty. And if your stuck, just try and try again. I can see where people get annoyed at that, but this is where I see the real challenge in a game. Of course it irks me - but it irks me and makes me laugh at my own failure, because I just cannot get the clue. Eventually I end up presenting everything to everone in Ivenstigation or Court - and I don't mind. Because when I have given up I want to be at least surprised xD (And truly a lot of the times it is just the ONE piece of evidence you have not presented by that time... - You get a feel for it)
I'd found it sad if games would get easier with each sequel; which I kinda feel already happened with the AA series, disregarding the Psyche Locks and the Perceiving. Either they became easier - or with time, as I said before, you just get a feel for the game. I kinda supsect its the latter. And after all we talk sequels here, so the gamer ought to already know the basics. Of course a "Golden Sun 2" situation for people who have never played the first game is a bit... not good, but hey personally, I'd like sequels to be more difficult :/

This. I want to replay a chapter in the middle of a case, but I don't want to start from the beginning of the case. It'd also be nice to have a chapter's list once you finish the case so you can start straight from a particular section.

That seems like a neat idea actually. Depending on the player I suppose this could or could not increase the replay value.
As for me, I suppose this is the author in me who so far had to look up the scripts of the games when I needed reference for something, so that I wouldn't have needed to replay half of the case to get to the point I wanted to look up.

Presumably because such people expected the fanbase to be very different than it is, and didn't like some things they learned about it over time. (I at least knew coming in just how silly the shipping and focus thereon can get... I still suspect that there's a lot that I haven't learned, though. Thus far the new insights have been pleasant surprises, though.)

Anyway, as for things I dislike?
  • The general mishandling of AJ, and especially the timing of Phoenix's disbarrment ruling out a continuation of the original trilogy (I'm glad they thought of centering AAI on Edgeworth as a way around this latter point, particularly as I love Edgeworth).
  • The final testimony of 3-2 (seriously, insta-game over worked for 2-4's ending dramatically, but here it just struck me as fake difficulty).
  • Oversights like, say, the picture in 3-3 that "gave a clear view of the crime scene" that actually obscured half the booth ARGH (yes, it didn't matter to the case that you couldn't see it all, but it still irked me).

Just off the top of my head. -- Pteryx

I hate the linarity of the games. The way they are, they're barely differing from an Anime or Manga. At all. I wish the choices made over the course of the game had an actual effect on how everything progresses, I wish there were multiple ends, which are determined by the overall behaviour over the course of the game, instead of a single, tiny choice at the end,...

...I wish Phoenix had a relation-ship counter like Cloud in FF-VII, so Shippers could trigger a dating-scene over the course of the game with ANY character they like (Wouldn't that make everybody happy?!)

I mean, I may not be a shipper, but I'd go back and play the game 10 times, just to see Phoenix dating all of the cast in systematic order. XD

The way they are, they games just have almost NO interactivity whatsoever and I'm often not sure if it's even right to call them "Games". :sadshoe:

...Because I felt the need to advertise my fanfic with a self-drawn, animated banner. Yes, I'm obsessed, why do you ask?

Here are some things I've wanted in these games and long for as I play them:

1: A "scene selection" option, so I can just select a place to play at [a certain investigation, testimony, etc - shorter scenes than the entire chapter, but making entire chapters selectable if desired].
2: An options menu. Ideal options would include: text speed [where an option could be "instant"], sound balance [ability to turn off sfx for those that love the music, and to turn off the music for those that want to play their own], customization maybe [where you can change colour of the buttons, like how Phoenix/Apollo's are orange but Edgeworth's are pink].
3: Multiple save files. Most games carry at least three :\

Yeah, probably the whole saving thing. And I didn't like it how you couldn't present profile pictures in the first game.

And that too.

Not being able to present profiles in AJ.

Snobs who go hating on the fanbase when they would actually enjoy it more if they weren't so snobby. Hating on people because they're so positive on the fandom is also just pathetic. It is a disrespect to everyone who loves the games, especially to people in the PW communities, and people who create tributes and fanworks.
