Anyway, I'd be surprised if this hasn't been mentioned before in this... intimidating backlog of posts (is there any sort of guide to this thread?), but Edgeworth seems like the sort who, even if he did fall in love with someone, could never say it straight. How I personally imagine it might finally slip out once he got past aggressively denying it to himself...

I think having Phoenix just be the type of guy who would go through ALL THAT TROUBLE just for a friend is a part of his character. After all, he runs across a burning bridge for Maya too. He's just that kind of guy. If anything, I think adding sex to the equation takes away from the EPIC FRIENDSHIP that Phoenix has for Edgeworth.
On the other hand, I do think Edgeworth may have some feelings for Phoenix, but for some reason it just seems unrequited to me. I have no doubt that Phoenix loves Edgeworth, but it always strikes me as a platonic love, and Phoenix is just that much of a dunderhead to not get that it's INSANE to dedicate his whole career to a man he only knew for a couple months in grade school.
Plus there's just something so delicious about unrequited love!Edgeworth angst. XD Especially if he's confused about his sexuality due to repression, and buddy Phoenix makes it all WOOOORSE.
But this is just my interpretation of course. I imagine most of the fandom disagrees. And like I said, I still do like P/E and love to see it in the fandom (so many P/E kink meme fills I've done... just so many... >_> ), it just isn't a ship I could ever see as canon.
As far as the seme/uke debate? I think it's silly to assume one partner would have to assume one position all the time. They'd probably swap off, and have epic court-room-esque battles in their bedroom over it? XD

What I, however, do love are dedicated relationships of ALL kinds. I don't care about kisses and sex, or cries of "I LOVE YOU!!". I care about character who would go through hell for each other. And that's pretty much why I love Phoenix' character, as well as the cute side of Edgeworth.
Phoenix awesome. His BFF leaves the correct path? He dedicates his EDUCATION AND CAREER to getting him back. His mentors sister and wonderful friend is trapped somewhere, possibly in grave danger? He won't rest a single second until she's SAFE; SAFE, SAFE! He's broke, jobless, but there's a little girl who needs some place to stay? HEY, CALL HIM DADDY!
Edgeworth is a little bit of a male Tsundere. He's incredibly deciated to his friends as well, but he doesn't show it openly. He teases Phoenix, but at the same time, he caters a private jet as soon as Larry mentions the words "Nick" and "die" in the same sentence. And the two times Maya, whom he barely even knows and is the daughter of the woman whom he long believed to have had a part un ruining his life, was in danger, he even went against 1 or 2 of his principles to aid Nick in safing her. He also shows concern about Gumshoe and, of course, Larry on occasions, despite openly humiliating both of them on regular basis. Oh, and then there's his adorable Saismophobia... It makes me wanna warp him in a blanket and hug him. ^^
And that's why Phoenix' and Edgey's friendship is incredibly cute in my eyes. Wether there is romantic love involved or not doesn't matter in the slightest to me.

Wow, I didn't think so many of us would agree on this point.
As a couple, I see them being pretty competitive about such things most of the time too, barring any temporary circumstances where one has to be strong enough for both of them. (And either could be.)Mm, there is a difference between what's fun and what could plausibly be canon. I don't pretend P/E as a couple is canon either (even if canon made it incredibly easy to imagine), but I do enjoy it if done well. (That kink meme fill based on my copy-pasted example quote... eh, I give it a C-.)
I do wonder if much has been done with the take on it you describe, though; I myself figured something of the sort is about as close as you could really get canonically. (Heck, if Phoenix managed to puzzle it out -- as I've said, I don't see Edgeworth as the type who could communicate effectively in that realm, so it'd be a mystery to solve in itself -- what would he do?) -- Pteryx

Anyway, I'll say something semi-substantial. At work I deal with costumes and we have this one costume there that makes me think of Edgeworth every time I see it. It's this dark red dress with a gratuitous amount of jewel-things and a cravat. But no one ever uses it. :(
