Ok, this is my collection of art and sprites that I've made over the last...while. Most of them aren't that great, so sorry.

OCs

Spoiler:
Basic:

Desk Slam start-up:
Image2 problems with this one: The background that appears randomly, and the fast that it doesn't look like he's slamming the desk (more like grabbing something)

SEVERAL problems with this one, thus leading to the above
[spoiler=First version *shiver*]ImageThe worst thing about this is that I once thought that this was a good sprite.[/fail]

Well, I don't need to read further than this. Fnar just kidding.

The person who "fixed" that sheet then made it jpeg needs a slap!

The Axcel ones aren't so bad, it's just.... Apollo's head is too small for Nick's body so you might want to do some resizing.

Technically, he edited them in paint and forgot to save them as a PNG. He generally has a problem with that :payne:

Axcel's were some of the first I made. I didn't really think about it then. I might fix it when I get back to the fangame (I have 2 on the waiting list first :P )

I suppose ou mean that I used gimp's blur tool around the edges of shading to make them blend better. I didn't feel like shading AAI or AJ style.

Not to be... er... rude, but these aren't too splendid. Let me get it out of the way by saying that this is the best one here. All of the other ones are wonky at best. Every sprite has a misshapen body part or oddly shaded/vibrant thing somewhere. The freehanded ones are particularly lacking. You need to have a better understanding of shading than the blur tool in Photoshop or GIMP, whichever it is you use. When it comes to drawing, well that's something I can't give advice for. It's something you learn and get better at, or you don't, but these are fairly badly drawn. Believe me, I still, to this day, cannot wholly scratch sprites.

What you need to do is start from the ground up. Do basic headsplices of AA sprites, then maybe a pallete swap, next time change the arms and the head, and while your at it, throw a new hair on it. As you do things like this you'll become more streamlined and get better, believe my my first sprites were terrible: Image

The worst thing you can do is thinking that your art is good, and I mean this for anyone. Everyone's art can ALWAYS be better somehow, you can never be content with what you've done and say "This is perfect, there is absolutely nothing that can make this better," because it will never be true. Even now, looking at a sprite I just finished, I'm ratcheting up 10 things that need to be changed to improve it, and chances are I'll find 5 more after that.

Also, try using MS Paint. Of the best spriters I've met (LawfulMagician, Ceres, Jeti, foxxis, Glace Leau, etc.) almost all of them use MS Paint, some only use MS Paint. Only one of them does not use MS Paint at all, it's Ceres and he uses Photoshop. He also has a degree in graphic design.

tl;dr: Don't Freehand if You Aren't Ready, Start Frankenspriting, Critique Yourself.

-Misshapen arm
-badly shaded
-inconsitent size
WHy is that one the best, again?
Also, I've been using MS pain for pretty much every part of the sprite except for the shading.

I think the original version of Axel has the best colors out of all of them. *shrug*

It's the best out of all of them. I did not say it had no flaws, it was simply passable as a first sprite. I'm saying that was the best because it was so good, I am saying that all of the other ones are worse. For interestingly many of the same reasons as you mentioned.

It's sometimes referred to as "Scratching", essentially drawing sprites completely from scratch, without any (or extremely few) use of parts from AA sprites. It's very hard to do well.
