The gold reflected the sun's brilliant shine even in darkness, and with this The Angel of Pain was able to make his way deeper into the cave.
He climbed down withered steps and followed the path of his children, finding a large river in the cave.

A thin man stood near a boat, and held a pole with a lantern on the end of it.
"Well met Great Grandfather", and The Angel nodded to him.
The thin man held out his bony and calloused hand, leaving the Angel no choice but to remove one of the rubies in his gauntlet and give it to him.

"Been years since I've held a treasure such as this." The thin man said as he palmed the philosophers stone.

The angel sat down in the boat, and the thin man stepped inside.

"I thought I'd never see you here" The thin man said as he pushed the boat along. Not many men come here willingly.
"You'd be surprised in this day 'n age great grandfather."

Walt waited for Nadine's response, and upon not getting one, his mind immediately jumped to the worst possible conclusion: she was in trouble! He was ready to charge in any random direction in the hopes of finding her, but stopped short. It was possible their telecommunication just failed. She could have merely moved further away and no longer could hear him. It was a pretty sketchy connection to begin with. Walt sighed to himself. Nadine could take care of herself just fine. Stop worrying about her. Slowly, he walked back into the building and glanced toward the room everyone was probably still in.

I'll say my good-byes and leave, but first... he thought, gathering up some objects and polishing them. I gotta have some assurance that they'll be okay...Now, let's see, it's been so long since I charmed objects... He carefully started putting spells into the polished objects, using his full concentration. He wondered if anyone would walk in and see him do this as sweat formed on his forehead. One object down. Six more to go. After all, seven was the lucky number, wasn't it?

As the two men went down the river you could hear soft moans in the distance.
To Ubrig's dismay he saw that even though his wheel had stopped, Ixion was still bound.

Not saying anything, Ubrig continued to look onward.

"You need not worry 'bout the dog great grandfather"

The moans began to shift, echoing a song once taught them.

An cuimhin leat an t-am
Go sioraí sileadh na ndeor
an ormsa nó orainne a bhí an locht

What are they saying? Ubrig asked the thin man.

The man (who was named Charon) was crying.
It had been so many years since he last heard music, not since Orpheus had come.

Ignoring the angel, he sung along with them as they started to sing the song again.
Do you remember love
Love from a tormented heart
Not fleeting, as with music at night
But an eternal love
Now tainted
Now tainted
Go now and reclaim it
Go now and love

Ubrig watched as the Erinyes sang the song between tears.

A curse that Orpheus had placed upon them upon his quest to Hades.

The river was long, and in it the decayed souls of the past.
In their essence the gods were formed, this was what created his God.

But his God was gone, as were most gods.
And soon he would join them.

The river stopped and Ubrig got off.

"Till we meet again, Great Grandfather."
Ubrig nodded and walked deeper into the void.

I can still hear it. He said to no one in particular.

Just one last thing I need to do.

Walt panted, finally finished with charming the objects. One of them was a comb, another a pocket mirror (he figured Hubris would get a kick out of that), and the others were: a hat, two gloves, a scarf, and, finally, a wristwatch. It was actually quite convenient all that stuff was just lying around. They were all charmed with defensive spells, which would be activated when needed. He carried all of these into the room with him and looked to Flux, Saile, and Hubris in turn.

"Well, I know this isn't the best timing, but then, it never is. I got something to tell you all...But first," he said, walking to Hubris. "These are for you, until you get your mirrors back." He offered the seven charmed objects to him.

"Bah!" Flux laughed, shaking his head. "Time-Shmime! It's not even linear! Sorry, I'm still loopy from the fall. I'm heading to the canteen. Hopefully, there'll be food there that isn't slowly rotting. Anybody want anything?"

I'd settle for anything right now Flux
Saile paused for a second and thought about it.

But whatever you bring me, make sure to bring twice as much Jello.

"I'm good, thanks," Walt lied. He was slightly agitated that Flux chose now of all times to get something to eat, but he let that slide. After all, he was still waiting on Hubris to take the objects from him, then he'd probably have to explain what all of them did. He'd be able to stall for time until Flux returned with the food Saile wanted, and whatever Hubris would like as well, if anything.

((I started writing this post this morning. I am bad at timing.))

Hubris sat up, eying the bundle of objects. Slowly, he took the items out of Walt's hands, placing them gingerly on the cot before him.

After a moment, Hubris looked back up at Walt.
"...I know I seem a little 'naked' without the mirrors, and probably look like I feel right about now, but I'm pretty sure I don't need help getting dressed."

All the same, he already had the hat in hand, twirling it between his fingers.

((If Hubris had his coat, he would now be the Fourth Doctor.))

Walt chuckled.
"These are no ordinary articles of clothing," he said. "They're all charmed objects. Seeing as how I won't be able to cast these spells myself, I figured you should go ahead and have them." He smiled slightly. "That hat is infused with a levitation charm. All you have to do to activate it is put it on. It'll lift you slightly off the ground. If you want to move faster or higher or the like, all you have to do is think it." He smiled wider. "The others are charmed in a similar manner."

((Boo..! And just to appease youguys - ta da. I had fun. ^^))

Typically, Nadine received no response to her most vital question of where everyone was. Inwardly cursing the sketchiness of such telepathy, she rested her forearms on the desk in front of her and peered closely at the interactive map. She'd zoomed it out as far as it could go, and yet she still couldn't see any sign of anything familiar.

Turning to Migoto, she gave her a grim smile. The way things are looking, it seems like the best we can do is wander aimlessly until we find my friends. Pausing, she caught her use of the collective pronoun. Well, that is... if you want to come with me, I guess.

Nadine couldn't help but smile at Migoto's enthusiasm. Yet it was still somehow, so agonisingly familiar. But she had bigger problems to deal with.

Great, thanks. I appreciate it.

Peering at the map, she could see that to the east, the trees appeared to be thinning out slightly. Tapping the screen, she looked at Migoto for approval. I'm thinking this way. Yeah?

Migoto studied the map. "alright! Let me get a gps so we won't get lost!" she ran off and snuck into her brother's section of the lab. Quietly, she picked up a device and ran back. When back at the computer, she put in the coordinates. let's go!"

Flux shrugged and skipped off, humming the instrumental of this. He jumped up the stairs as if playing a game of hopscotch taking a seemingly random route, but quickly found himself in a large, dusty room. Foldable tables and chairs stood against the wall, a double door leading into the kitchen on the other side. Flux grinned and teleported inside, finding boxes of snacks, but ignored them, going straight to the bread bin. "Okay.." Flux paused, thinking to himself. "If I open this..." He did so, seeing several rather mouldy loaves of bread. "Hmph, must have been off for a few weeks." He rubbed his hands together and vanished.
34 days and 10 hours ago, a teenager (presumably no more than 14) appeared in the same place and rummaged through the bread bin, finding a loaf of fresh, sliced bread. It was the middle of the night. "Now, where's that light-switch? Ah.." The boy, now clearly Flux Medicus in this harsh, artificial light, jumped as a deafeningly loud alarm rang out. "Of course, lights going on in a locked room. Computer says no." He grabbed what he needed and flashed back to present day. "Sweet silence."

((Explanation. School. Laziness. Yay. I somewhat feel the awkward pause is my fault. I'll make up for that by forcing adding some new plot.))

"So, the hat means flying." Hubris said. He twirled the hat around on finger, warily eying the remaining paraphernalia. "What of the others?"

----------------------------------------------

The eye in the sky.

That was the perfect name for it, the great scrap tube it was. It never stopped moving, continually adjusting it's orbit by mere centimeters in a way that would impact it's travel by miles, and shift it's gaze across acres of land in an instant.

The watchful satellite observed the tiny figures below, within the ruined lands of the prior conflict. Two men in combat regalia, a metal ring embedded in the ground, and a third person. The contrasting colors of the pale blonde in the black suit gave Jacob's identity away immediately from the others. It was clear he was dawdling.

With a slight twist and a small jet of air, the satellite tilted it's camera away, toward another place. The coordinates, continually being transmitted from a beacon unknowingly brought to the site, led the camera toward a small city. For a brief moment it was almost visible, but the source of the signal was gone before the satellite could zoom in. The signal had gone inside a building.

Walls meant nothing, however. The readout changed into infrared, scanning the near emptiness of the city to behold scattered and sparse red blips-- heat signatures, likely stray dogs, or vermin --which lay across the expanse.

But the source of the signal, it was much more noticeable. Four larger, red blips were more closely clustered together, one moving further apart before vanishing and reappearing a greater distance away.
There you are... Walt.

The next moves were clear: Make a record of the coordinates, transmit the information to the Northern Theater, install Eden Spires to head off their teleportation, and within the hour the targets would become prisoners and likely be executed after scientific examination.
This short game of chess would be at it's end; a Check-, with a highly probable -Mate soon after.
...wouldn't it? Had not another flawless 'coup de grâce' just failed days before, upon the same persons?

It is uncertain. This cannot do. Research has been thrown back immeasurably by this loss. More data is required. There needs to be--

More red blips. The infrared signal was weak, as they were just now skirting the edges of vision, but the satellite could detect a cluster of moving bodies headed toward the city.

Someone else? ...opportunity, for data and more. Very well, then we shall wait... and watch.

The satellite trained it's camera on the city, and stilled.

((tl;dr Jacob is still out in the field, "It" knows where everyone is but isn't doing anything, a 3rd group of people are coming into the city. Ploooot~))

Walt couldn't help but smile even wider as Hubris asked about the other objects. It made him feel proud that he was, well, making sure everyone would stay safe.
"Each glove is a shield. The right protects against long-range attacks. The left protects against short-range. The shields will automatically activate whenever you are attacked by anything, but they will each burn out after blocking ten things, so if you could avoid the attacks altogether, that would be best. The scarf is charmed with an invisibility spell. I'm not sure how long it would take before wearing out, maybe a few days if used every second of them. It activates at your will. The pocket mirror is infused with a shattering charm. You simply touch it to any weapon and it will shatter completely. Magical weapons would take a lot more out of this charm than regular ones, though, so try not to use it unless you're sure what you're dealing with. The wristwatch, when activated, will make you move much quicker than you otherwise could. This one will also do so at your will, but it should only be used in emergencies: I'm not sure how many times it could be used before burning out, and besides which, moving so fast would take time to get used to. Finally, the comb is infused with an illusion charm. When you wish it, your enemies will see many of you, so it makes a good diversion. I'm not sure how long until it wears out, but I designed it to only last for short periods at a time. Any long-term use would make it turn back into an ordinary comb far too quickly," he explained in probably the longest post his creator has posted in this RP. His smile fell, knowing full well what came next. Better say it now. The longer he stayed, the harder it would be to leave.

"I'm giving you all these because...I'm leaving the group," he added, bracing himself. It was sad that after traveling with these guys for so long, he still wasn't sure what reaction to expect from them.

"You're-- you're what?" Hubris sputtered. The hat went sailing across the floor, slipping out of his grasp as he jolted up. All that post-nap grogginess fled, as he felt the shock of the statement sink in.

'Leaving the group?? He doesn't mean that he's...?'

"What... exactly do you mean 'leaving'?"

((I was waiting to see if anyone else would post...but after about a week, I decided I might as well post now because I might not get a chance to for a while!))

Walt gingerly picked the cap up off the ground. How unusual was it that the calm guy was the one who reacted first, and so far the strongest? Maybe it hasn't sunk in with the other two yet, like how it doesn't sink in that the end of the world is approaching until the world really does end. ...Wow. I have such an ego, comparing my leaving to the end of the world. Maybe they just aren't sure how to react.. I should explain myself. Taking in a deep breath, he looked Hubris in the eye.

"I mean I will be traveling a different direction from you guys for a while, at least," he answered. "You see, there are reasons why magicians such as myself don't enter the minds of other people unless it is necessary. One reason is that there is a chance you never come out once entering someone's mind, making your own body remain in a permanent comatose state. The other is that you do get out, but you go insane. It takes one of a very powerful mind not to suffer at least the latter of the two. When we entered Saile's mind, I was shocked out of there immediately. I ran as far away as I could, feeling like a failure and wondering if I was going to go mad. Well, I didn't go insane, but you may have noticed how over-protective I was, and how I tried to keep even the people trying to kill us alive...That was partially because of what I saw in there." With great effort on his part, he managed not to shiver or shudder, but he did squeeze the cap hard in order to keep his composure. "Then I entered Zachary-I mean, Adam-'s mind. There I saw what his mind perceived as the thing that was controlling him. I tried to stop that thing...and instead of stopping it, I barely escaped with my mind. And now, I think I'm going insane. I'm certainly experiencing some...red flags. If I'm wrong, I will find you guys. If I'm right, I'd sooner fade away than put all of you and Nadine in danger."

At the end of this long monologue, Walt sighed and relaxed his grip on the cap. "I'll walk away and block my mind off so there would be no communication between us for a time. Give Nadine my best when you find her, and keep yourselves and each other safe. You might want this back." He handed Hubris the cap. "I will miss you all, and...I hope I'm wrong." Whipping around, Walt started to walk away, a little shakily. What would he do...all alone and paranoid? Even right then, he felt like someone was watching him. Someone far away. He tried to dismiss the thought, but it was still in the back of his mind. If Walt always felt like someone was watching him, he was bound to be right at some point, wasn't he?

Nadine could already feel her spirits unintentionally lifting at Migoto's enthusiasm, and she gave her a thumbs-up when she returned with the GPS. Right.... let's go, then. Leading the way to the exit, Nadine looked around her as they emerged into the forest, shaking out her wings slightly and inhaling the air deeply. Cracking her knuckles out of habit, she smiled slightly at Migoto and cast her thoughts towards everyone in the group she had been separated from.

I'm on my way to try and find you guys. I...

She paused before casting the final bit of her message solely to Saile and Walt.

Please hang in there for me.

"Don't worry!" Migoto said, determined, "We'll find your friends!" she then flashed Nadine a big, childlike smile and began to march in a direction that a voice told her to go. Migoto trusted this voice, it had never steered her wrong. It also sounded like Hubris, but Yuui had suppressed ever memory of him. It was strange. This voice had appeared after she moved back with her brother.

(Just to clarify, the voice isn't Hubris. It's her schizophrenia playing tricks on her. She listens to it because she finds it comforting)

"I'm on my way to try to find you guys. I...Please hang in there for me." Walt paused at Nadine's communication. If she was already on her way, then he didn't have enough time. His best bet was to charge through the door and just run as far away as he could. He was hoping at least one of the guys would tell him he missed him or something along those lines, but oh, well. Walt couldn't wait.
I'm sorry, Nadine, he thought, sending the message to her before putting up a mental shield, effectively blocking any telepathic communication from her. He turned to the others, opened his mouth, closed it, nodded, then turned back around and sprinted through the building, charging outside.

Erm, hi. I'm that awful guy who used to take the storyline and then vanish for days on end in the original Doomsday, 'cept now I have a brain. Would myself signing up provoke too many terrible memories?

Name: Orsinium Mern
Age: 54
Group: Unaffiliated
Species: Impure (Essentially a demon possessing a human shell)
Appearance: A slightly wrinkled, tanned character, constantly clad in a well-cut grey suit and tie, with what seems to be slicked-back hair, although if you get up close, you realise it's actually his horns. Impure forms only go so far.
Bio: Orsinium, being a servant of Zemaphelus, Lord of Deals and Bargains, is something of a con artist, though admittedly not many con artists have the power to invade your mind and change it whether you like it or not. He is smooth talking, persuasive character, and tends to adapt his personality to fit in with whoever he's trying to bed/con/have a beer with.
Background: Orsinium used to be Zemaphelus' right-hand man, until one day he beat him in a game of liar's dice by having a fellow demon alter his dice. While being incarcerated in a human shell is not a nice punishment, especially since the apocalypse happened and all, at least he wasn't disintegrated like the dice-altering friend. Zemaphelus now uses him as a kind of envoy, although dealings have been thin on the ground since everyone started killing one another.
Powers/Abilities: The ability to invade people's minds and influence their subconsciousness. The difficulty and time taken for this is influenced by strength of character and willpower, and invading the minds of fellow demons doesn't work.

I hope I got all the canon right.

((Of course not! Sorry no one's gotten back to you sooner. I was kinda hoping one of the others would, but, well, this RP's kinda dead. o.O However, it's summer now so maybe some people will be able to come back during summer vacation or something? Anyway, everything looks in order for your profile. Speaking of profiles, here's my new, improved, and more detailed one for Walt.
Spoiler: Walt Biggerstaff
Name: Walt Biggerstaff

Age: 25

Group: Escaped Prisoner, former Soldier/Mage

Species: Human

Appearance: With his blond hair, golden eyes, skinniness, and paleness, Walt looks far more frail than he actually is. He's average height and wears a stolen guard outfit, though it's covered in so much dirt and torn in so many places, no one can tell that that's what the uniform once was.

Bio: Walt is a very protective person, some would argue too protective. He tries to do everything on his own, to the point that he allows himself to be overwhelmed. His worst fear is that he will descend into the insanity he had when he was a soldier, so he tries not to take any human lives. He also tends to blame himself for many things that aren't his fault, since he feels it's his responsibility as a mage to solve everyone's problems. All his adventures now make him very cautious and a little paranoid. He does genuinely care about others and tries to help them all, but it's very rarely in ways they appreciate.

Background: When Walt was 16, he pretended to be 18 to join the military. His sister was sick, and he needed some way to pay for her recovery. Doing magic tricks on the corner didn't get him very far, and even though he had magical abilities, he didn't know how to control them, so the army put him through basic training as a joke. They never expected that he would get through with flying colors. They figured the basic training had to be a fluke, so they sent him to the battle field with his trusty gun blade. His unit was soon surrounded, and he unintentionally used his magic to kill all that had surrounded them. That was when he started to go crazy and want to kill anyone who got in his way.

He trained with one of the best mages in the army, and quickly rose through the ranks within. He was hailed as the best, able to slaughter whole battalions of enemy soldiers with one spell. Life for him was good until one night, while his mental barriers were down, he was possessed by an enemy magician. He slaughtered hundreds of his own men before he was finally detained. He was then sent to trial, where he eventually got off, but he vowed never to use magic to kill ever again. He was discharged shortly after.

He came home to find his sister had died and that many people thought he was betraying his country by no longer helping in the military. He took all he learned and became a healer instead. When a friend of his from the army approached him and told Walt they wanted him back, he flat out refused. His friend told him he wasn't asking, he was telling, and drew a gun on Walt. He pulled the trigger, and Walt used his magic to make the whole gun explode in his friend's hands, an act which killed him. He was put on trial and found guilty of murder.

Since the apocalypse started, he's been doing about as well as you'd expect, though he feels exhausted all the time...until he killed after entering Adam's mind. Now, he just might be slipping back into insanity.

Powers/Abilities: Well, the ability to use magic, of course. How it works is that spells could be elemental or non-elemental. Elemental spells are easier to use because they require less energy. It requires some exertion from yourself, but you're not creating something out of nothing. All you do for elemental spells is manipulate what's already there. For non-elemental spells, things like entering another's mind and summoning or repelling objects, more energy is required, along with a more advanced skill level, but often non-elemental spells are more useful than elemental ones. For example, if you make a shield with one of the elements, a strong attack from the opposite element could easily break through it. An air shield could break thanks to a strong enough earth attack. However, a non-elemental shield can't be broken in such a way. If you're advanced enough, you could block just about any attack until either you relinquish the shield or run out of the energy required to keep it up. Note, though, that every attack on the barrier makes you use more energy so as to keep it up. It's a far more powerful shield, but takes more concentration and energy, see?

Telepathy/Mind Breach: Walt can communicate with people telepathically if they know how to communicate with him and allow it. He also knows how to enter someone else's mind, provided he makes physical contact and concentrates hard enough to break through the mind's barriers.

Mind Block: He can reinforce his mind barriers and make it harder for one to either telecommunicate with him or control his mind. He has to be willing to do this, concentrate on it, and can only reinforce his barriers temporarily.

Weapons: Gun blade and a staff, though both have been lost at this point.

So, there you have it. Ta-daaa~?))
