Sven's given the people at Capcom-Unity a bit of news about the AAI2 localisation.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/28319655/Will_Capcom_consider_localizing_Ace_Attorney_Investigations_2_for_the_3DS?post_id=508442967#508442967

"If it happens, it will not be on DS. It would be on some other platform, 3DS being one potential candidate. That said, there's nothing I can talk about on this front right now."

So, no localisation for the DS. That narrows it down, I guess.

Thoughts?

Sounds like good news to me, at least he's not saying "we haven't done anything yet" the only thing that worries me a bit is Capcom's incentive to implement the 3DS's features on to a game meant for the DS. I'd go the Steel Driver route which was originally going to be a DS game, (and still kind of looks like one) but came out on the 3DS with pretty minimal features, that being the gyroscope. Though I really like the idea of the sprites and menus popping out kind of like a pop-up story book. I still have that .mpo file you can install on your 3DS if anybody is curious on how AAI might look on the 3DS.

At this point I really hope they at least make it downloadable. Incidently, does DSiware still count as just regular DS? If money really is a problem, localizing it on DSiware sounds pretty cheap going by it's technical capabilities.

(Shouldn't this be in a different category?... :yuusaku: )

And if not the 3DS then what else? I hope it's not the PSP or other non-Nintendo thing. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to play it! D:

I'm moving this to the Court-Docket rather then Trial Minutes. It deserves some attention, but at the same time, I don't want this on the front page as we should not be putting words in Sven's mouth, as I can easily see this being miss read as "Sven teasing AAI2 on the 3DS", which is clearly NOT what he's trying to say.

He's effectively saying, "It's not happening on the DS." Which is something we've known for a while now.

Sven's a good guy, and an oft source of info from Capcom USA. Lets not abuse this little tidbit.

Devil Survivor Overclocked is a good example, it took a pre-existing DS title and added full voice acting (which I would fully endorse), an 8th day (extra case would be nice). I don't think they would need to tack on gimmicky features just to utilize the 3DS' features.

Someone should ask if DSiWare is an option, or if that still counts as "on DS".

It's very....pernickity...why would he say that if he's not seriously considering a localisation?

Also sure port it to 3DS, amp up graphics, put in a not really adding much 3D filter but I'd still buy it.

He's a Capcom employee. He's not allowed to disclose future plans outside of what's known in press releases. He can clear some details up, but most of that can be deduced through common sense. But as a human he doesn't want to crush people's hopes and dreams.

Though, there are some holes in the system.

Turning back a few years, when we learned that "Apollo Justice" was trademarked, there was confusion if that was for a new Ace Attorney game, or another entry in another Capcom franchise. (The name of that franchise eludes me as I'm not a big Capcom fan, and am picky about the franchises I follow). The tell that should've been obvious at the time was "Lost", then Capcom's ambassador to the fans, was suspiciously proactive in the Ace Attorney boards on that topic. He never confirmed or denied the name, thus it flew over our heads, but it should've sent dim warning lights that it was an Ace Attorney game.

Though, in our defense, we still think Apollo has a silly name, even if he has the best foundation for a trilogy over Phoenix and Edgeworth,

eShop, Wii Ware... Whatever, just localize it

The really good news, is that we didn't recieved a NO, so I think that the localization is already on it's way :)

Let's cross our fingers for good news in the 10th Anniversary Court, maybe a 3DS compilation, dunno, just SOMETHING! XD

Having it on the 3DS would fulfill the "derp it needs something cool and new about it" thing they were talking about.

I agree that this isn't really telling us much we don't know, except that if AAI2 is ever to be localized it for sure won't be a retail DS title (which had been made fairly clear earlier as well.) Here's hoping for a good outcome for all of this, though one has to wonder about the price/potential profit ratio on this sort of project. I doubt a re-release with a bonus case is feasible either; it's been less than a year since GK2 was released in Japan - and what's more, GK2 is such an interconnected game in terms of each case's plots that adding a new, unconnected case on top of that would stick out like a sore thumb.

(Also, off-topic, but unless I'm not mistaken, the 10th Anniversary Court isn't actually happening on the 12th, but rather the details of the event are being announced then. Might want to fix that on the main page.)

It'd BETTER not be a stupid download or something.

I WANT AN ACTUAL GAME AND CARTRIDGE NOT A STUPID DOWNLOAD.

A download is BS IMO.

Anyone understand where I'm coming from with this?

No?

I didn't think so...

If this means localization fine. I'll find some way to shell out the money for the 3DS.

But I still want an actual game and cartridge. I don't want a download or whatever. That's BS.

But OBVIOUSLY that's just me...

The only reason why a downloadable alternative is even discussed is because Capcom has already mentioned the main problem IS money. If we're talking about cutting costs to get a localization it's obvious making it a download will be discussed either way, and even if it does turn out that way so what? If you really want the cartridge that badly then buy it from Japan, that way you get your cartridge plus maybe even more if you get the limited edition.

Also what's with the odd double spacing in every single one of your posts?

If its "not happening on the DS", maybe he means 3DS downloads? If it was 3DS game, surely it would cost even more to localise?

But yeah, that's the only reason I mentioned DSiWare. Since it's not actually a 3D game, they're probably not going to want to put the effort into making it 3D, so DSiWare is the most likely choice, I think. Or WiiWare, as someone else suggested.

^^^Yeah um... THIS.

I don't have a credit card and I don't think my mom is going to let me have one/get one because my family is in a bad financial situation that we probably won't get out of for a VERY LONG TIME at the moment.

That's a legitimate complaint, though it is worth noting that if the game were released for download on the DSi or the 3DS, you could buy a points card with cash and use that to pay for the download.

Though I suppose I can understand why it would make things difficult but like Bolt Storm says good old cash can buy redeemable points cards. See em all the time in Games shops.

My problem with points cards, is that they don't show me what I'm buying. They're faceless cards with an abstract number on them. Compare that to, a Box with the Elite Beat Agents on the cover. You'll notice the game box, but ignore the points card. Consequently I tend to be much more frugal with online digital purchases then with retail purchases.

I squirmed when I was going to pay 10 or so dollars for the amazing Tactical RPG The War of Eustrath HD. But then I don't flinch at fronting $30 for Ghost Trick. Another great game.

How old do you have to be to get a debit card in America/wherever you live? Here in the UK I got one a few weeks after I started working at 13.

I know for a credit card you need to be at least 18, as they're tied into that magic technicality that lets you buy guns online. As for a debit card, I'm unsure but that was my first card and I sure wasn't 18 when I got it.

If your parents have a credit card, it's also possible for them to set up a "branch account" with a credit card in your name, even if you're not 18 yet.

Anyway, back on topic, I think this is good news. I was a bit scared they were going to go, "The DS is at the end of its life cycle, so we aren't releasing this game, because it's on the DS," but instead, while they aren't releasing it on the DS, they aren't completely ignoring the possibility of releasing it at all.

Now then, back to GK2-4 ^^

I'm not really sure I trust that kind of thing...

If you don't want to go down the shops and buy the points card to get the game then that's laziness on your part.
Seriously relax it's not even confirmed it'll be a downloadable title. Hell we don't even know if the vague ambiguous statement means a localisation.

But even if it is a localisation you should be damned grateful as that way you'll be able to acquire it SOMEDAY as opposed to never at all.

Would they even be allowed to sell the game digitally on the 3DS? AAI's file-size was 128mb, and obviously a 3DS game would be even larger.

I doubt Nintendo would allow such a large game on the eShop.

Hmm who knows but if it's downloadable on the eShop I don't think they'd give it a 3DS remake, probably just a simple port.

Hmm who knows but if it's downloadable on the eShop I don't think they'd give it a 3DS remake, probably just a simple port.

If the PC, iPhone, Verizon Phones, and Wii ports are any indication, if it happens, it'll be a cheap hacky port.

Also, for what it's worth, AAI was 64 MB, and not all of that was actually used by the game. But I don't know what kind of limits Nintendo puts on the eShop games.
Hi! I've largely stepped back from C-R due to life stuff. Please contact one of the other staff members for help!
