Let me ask you a question. Do you revise for tests?

I certainly don't and I have a reason for it. My reason is that only thing revision does is go back over things you already know. If you know something, you know it. There's no middle ground, to me. It's just revise, or non-revise. If you have to go over several year's work, you should revise. But if you don't I don't see the point.

So, what do you think?

I revise for tests, because information doesn't really sink in my head the first time.

I find revision very useful because,it makes you have a better chance of remembering what you have learned.

For example, I'm coming up to a piano exam and I know my pieces note-by-note but I'm still playing it again and again so I don't forget how I'm supposed to play it.

(Sorry,if that didn't make any sense.)

Like, when you have tests/ exams and you have to review your information to get a higher mark.
Are you American by any chance?! That could be why, some things that english people say aren't the same as what sometimes Americans say. =]

"Revision" is the term used in the UK (among other places) for studying up for exams, folks.
And yes, what makes this a debate, exactly...?

...over whether there's any point in it?

I find it useful. I tend to cram the night before instead of having a proper programme over the months and weeks leading up to a test, but it really saves my ass sometimes. Especially in my Ethics AS-level last month >.>

Hmm... Well If By Revising you mean going back over?

I've never used that term... but I sometimes forget, and when I don't It's usually not alot of Revising.

Aha, I figured it was most likely something along those lines from the way the discussion was going. We just call it 'reviewing.'

Also this isn't a debate, so...to Wright and Co. it goes.

"Révision"

It's reviewing in french, but for someone from Wales to use it in that context...

I actually do review. Less brain farts at the exam.

And reviewing made it so that I freaking passed the test rather than get kicked out of my major.

Last I checked, I've been in the US for my entire life and not once did I hear anyone refer to studying for exams/tests as "revising".
Yes, Hawaii IS a state, kids.
(You have no idea how many people actually ask this question...and REALLY mean it!

I'm not much of a reviewer, mainly because I tend to do well on exams without bothering to do so, even in my worst subjects. In fact, I usually do better on tests that I don't review for than the ones I do, but I suppose that has more to do with my teachers putting things on the test that aren't in the books and stuff like that.
