I'm not sure I like the hands, I know they give the idea Zero is a kind of manipulator/magician (?) etc but they reveal too much IMO.

No, it doesn't.
That's like saying a picture of Phoenix on the AA boxart would spoil it.

Yeah, but Zero is supposed to be shrouded in mystery. Right away that makes it seem as if the characters will face the same Zero as before.

According to Amazon, the US release date is 10/24/12. No comfermation, but get hype.

Also, on have box art, I see it says Volume 2 of the Zero Escape series. Does that mean 999 might get a relaunch/European release?

Aksys is apparently rejiggling the boxart a bit and removing the ominous hands of doom.

I'd wondered about that - if 999 were to get a European release it would also make sense for the sequel to as well, but I dont know if I can wait that long :(

According to this article Rising Star Games are now partnered with Aksys to distribute their games in America:

http://www.aksysgames.com/2012/04/11/ak ... te-titles/

Of course, while this isnt offical confirmation that VLR will be released in Europe, it gives some hope IMO, the closer the two companies are the better and maybe the deal can work both ways (Aksys games could be distributed in the UK?) if the companies are now talking to each other :D

Tracks 1 and 3 of the demo (what I heard) are really good.
And that 2D art is excellent, hope to see more in the VN sections of the game.

Here are a few more tidbits that the employee dropped...

- hoping to release English screens soon
- voice cast won't be announced prior to release
- Euro release up to Spike Chunsoft, as they are the ones that decide to select a European publisher

Well, that's nothing new, it's always been up to Chunsoft to chose a publisher in Europe. But maybe it's me over-analysing things, but this makes it sound like they're planning a European release, but they just haven't found a publisher yet.

Hey,
I read some interesting stuff on NeoGAF:

Apparently, the English script was "written with the English voice track in mind" - so will the subtitles be the same as the English dub (if you select the Japanese track?)
Also they said "We are paying a lot for English VAs" - does that mean well known professional VAs? Having said that some of the fan videos are Youtube are hilarious :D

Well, I don't know if VLR has any movies or anything that need subbing, just the voiced parts of normal gameplay, but yeah, they're definitely just going to have one English translation. I think what he's getting at is that certain jokes and the like might be changed completely in the translation for one reason or the other, so if you have Japanese voices and English text and understand both languages, you might notice some inconsistencies.

I wound up stumbling upon the same site my friend did (ah, the pains we go through looking for soundtrack downloads - no luck yet, by the way) and while I mostly just skimmed past any in-game shots to avoid any major spoilers, I did get a shot of the flowchart a little later in the game if you want to see the degree to which things branch out. This could be considered a little more spoilery, though it doesn't show the details/plot of the routes or which doors/betrayal choices have been taken.

Spoiler:
Image

Going by this and some of the info in that spoiler-free blog MrGiggles posted, it looks like the game primarily divides into routes based around certain characters (since I count 9 'major' branches here, with BAD ENDs peppered throughout, plus there's that Clover icon that ends a route). Some obviously go further than others, though I also saw other shots that suggest this flowchart is incomplete (eg. some of the paths with gray ? boxes actually have further boxes show up after you reach the end of them.)

Sounds very nice. :)

Especially this:
Quote:
I just finished the game an hour or two ago. All I can say is… Wow. I loved the ending. I love this game, so much.

999 is often compared to Ever17, so a few people have been joking around about VLR being the Remember11 of the Zero Escape series. Because Remember11 was a good visual novel in its own right, but as a sequel to Ever17 it was a huge letdown.

I don’t think that VLR is a letdown coming from 999. Honestly, I think VLR is better than 999. I still need to let the story sit and go back and replay 999 before I can really say that. But still, it’s one of those rare sequels that is not only as good as the original, but better.

Obviously everyone needs to decide that for him- or herself, but it's very good to hear nonetheless.

Maybe someone at E3 will take a video, if possible.

I wonder if they'll release a demo of the game at some point, like they did for 999. Wasn't a demo released in Japan?

Yeah, but I believe it was only for the Vita version. Of course, Nintendo seems to have eased up a little on demo restrictions since then, so maybe Aksys'll push one through.

Incidentally, one of the folks at Aksys was super cool and sent me "Blue Bird Lamentation" from the soundtrack, VLR's equivalent to "Morphogenetic Sorrow". It's... different from MS, but still really damn awesome. (I promised not to send it to anyone, though, so you're going to have to take my word on it, sorry.)

Now that I think about it, I wonder if Aksys is going to sell anything like the watches from 999 when VLR is released...

Hmm... I recall that the trailer for VLR had a bit of Morphogenetic Sorrow in the music. I wonder if any music in the game hints back to the music in 999 (other than something used in, say, a flashback scene to the first and second Nonary games, if that exists in VLR).

Well, I hear some of the music is remixed/re-imagined version of 999's. You can hear it yourself if you check out the last trailer for the game, the music while Zero III is explaining the first rule is pretty heavily based off "Unary Game".

Two of their staff post pretty frequently on NeoGAF, and they're always hanging out in the VLR thread and giving updates on voice recording and the like. One of them's their Director of Production (also on Twitter here) and the other is one of their script editors (also on Twitter here). They're both really nice guys.

That's right, I recall somebody posting a dialogue audio comparison between the two demos, which showed that the 3DS demo had subpar dialogue audio quality. Has anybody confirmed if that was only because it was a demo (and needed to fit within some eShop limit), or does it actually sound that way in the final game?

I sure hope it doesn't sound that way in the final game, because there's no hardware limitation for it... unless they wanted to use a cheaper cartridge.
