There was a story recently posted on GoNintendo about Maple Story's recent Japanese release, and bringing it over to Europe and North America. Fairly typical interview stuff, until you reach this part here…

Now that's interesting. Thus far, there have been no DS games, ports or otherwise, on the 3DS eShop. And up until this point, I've heard nothing beyond wishful speculation on that possibility on the part of fans. "If" Maple Story can get a second wind via the 3DS eShop, then all that's holding back AAI2 is what's held the games back from day one. An epic localization.

This is some mildly uplifting news. Thank you.

It would be a nice precedent, true, but it still doesn't solve the problem that it'd be a small, small market for AAI2. Modern-day Capcom doesn't seem the kind to take a low-profit digital release when they could apply resources to a larger title.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen. I'm just not particularly optimistic about its chances.

This raises my spirits about the whole thing, especially this piece of news from Capcom's Christian Svensson on the Capcom-Unity forums:

Don't worry though, on some future unannounced Capcom projects, Nintendo platforms will get digital love from us. :)

Hm, seems like they're bringing over Megaman to the 3DS virtual console, which would be the first Capcom digital product on the 3DS? Excluding any DSiware stuff of course. Hope they do more with than bringing over old NES games that were already on the Wii's VC. >_> Well it's still interesting anyway, at least they're doing something on Nintendo platforms again.
