TGS has wound down, and while in the future we'll have a detailed report on everything that came out of the show, for now we're winding up media coverage with a few new videos thanks to the dedicated members of CR.

First, Beautiful_Blue was able to record much of the Ace Attorney 5 stage show livestream last night. Unfortunately, due to technical errors, the first 8 minutes of audio are lost, and the remainder is somewhat warped. In addition, the animated cutscene by Bones that was played was not broadcast as part of the livestream. However, it does show us the Heart Scope system in action, as well as more of the investigation scenes, which given this footage may be from case 1, surprisingly enough! You can view that video here.

Update: Capcom has put up their entire livestream from the final day of TGS here! The Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney section begins at 56:39, while the Ace Attorney 5 section begins at 5:36:37.

Update 2: Capcom has taken down the full show, but you can still catch the PLvsAA and GS5 sections thanks to CR member kwando.

Second, eagle-eyed (and -eared) CR member PlayGamer found that 4Gamer has put up recordings of both Layton's and Phoenix's demos - with the added bonus of direct-feed audio! Take a gander to get an earful of PW1's soundtrack done Layton, among other things.

Many thanks to both of them!
Hi! I've largely stepped back from C-R due to life stuff. Please contact one of the other staff members for help!

Some observations for the AA5 livestream:

I really wonder if the animation style they're using is going to be final, where, similarly to the original sprite-based AA, many animations don't move after reaching a position (other than blinking) and there is no transition between animations (just cuts to the next animation). It doesn't look bad... but the cut transition is a bit jarring. And the fact that nobody breathes (except for the girl on the stand in some animations) is a bit odd to see in a 3D game. This can all be fixed by the animators, since the game isn't on the verge of release yet, but I wonder if this is actually the style they want.

tl;dr: one animation cuts to the next, nobody in the AA universe requires oxygen to live, and everyone has perfect balance. Looks a bit odd given the 3D models, but not bad.

Picking a hotspot during investigation marks it as already looked at? That's really handy!

I like the way the camera is used during investigations, though panning looks a bit rough right now.

Kokone has some interesting expressions... especially the angry eyes. I kind of wonder what the dialogue was there, since she went through three extremely different expressions really quickly (starting at 24:03).

Hey! So we did catch a bit of the livestream! Too bad the bones part wasn't streamed... I would've wanted to watch that.

Wow, the direct audio feed for Layton vs. AA is good stuff.

Even the text sound effect from both series are used! Layton's SFX when Layton and Luke are talking and then Ace Attorney's SFX when Mahone and the other characters are talking. The music sounds great too. A lot of the GS1/PW1 remixed tracks never sounded more epic.

I can translate the gameplay text if people want. Just give me some time to get through it all. I'll update this post as I go.

Gameplay translations (from 14:58)

Kokone: "Understood! Let's do it!"

Naruhodo: "So that computer lets you see Miss Morizumi's emotions?"

Kokone: "In my ears, there's the voice of Shinobu's heart... I can hear her emotions."
"I understood the 'emotions' and 'images' from that testimony just now."
"With those two things, I can input them into the computer for analysis."
"When emotions sway during a testimony, these four 'emotion marks' will respond."
"Happiness or enjoyment is the 'joy' mark..." (green)
"Anger or frustration is the 'anger' mark..." (red)
"Sadness or fear is the 'grief' mark..." (blue)
"And surprise or confusion is the 'shock' mark." (yellow)

Naruhodo: "With your ability and this computer,"
"I can also understand the emotions she feels when testifying."
"...Right?"

Kokone: "Yep!"

Naruhodo: "(Alright! Let's listen to the testimony of Morizumi's heart!)"

"That time, I... *achoo*"
"stood by to listen... *achoo-achoo*" (She attended that trial during the bombing.)
"The bomb exploded... *achoo*"
"*achoo* ...above me..."
"The rubble... *achoo-achoo*"

Kokone: "I've seen the emotions from her testimony."

Naruhodo: "(This is that girl's power, huh...)"

Kokone: "There was a strange emotion that contradicts the testimony in there!"

Naruhodo: "Eeh!? You got it already!"

Kokone: "See? When the rubble fell, 'joy' came out!"

Naruhodo: "Ah! That is strange."

Kokone: "There must be some reason that there's this contradicting emotion!"
"When you see a strange emotion..."
"touch the 'Identify' panel (L)..."
"and point out the strange emotion from the 'emotion marks!'"

"Touch the 'Identify' panel!"
"Choose the strange emotion!"

Naruhodo: "HERE!"
"Miss Morizumi!"
"Why did you feel happy when the rubble was falling on you?"

Shinobu: "Eh...! *achoo*"

Naruhodo: "No need to rush. Do you know why that happened?"

Shinobu: "Y-yes. Um, shortly when I escaped the courtroom..."
"The rubble fell...! I thought I'd die!"
"Ah! That's right. However, that time..."
"An officer saved me...!"

Naruhodo: "So, I just found out what I had figured."

Kokone: "With this new information, I'll 'update' this..."
"Let's listen to the rest of the testimony from her heart!"

Naruhodo: "So if I see a strange/suspicious emotion, I'll 'identify' it!"

Kokone: "Yep! And you'll point out the strange emotion from the 'emotion marks!'"
"If you know the reason for the discord in the heart..."
"A new piece of testimony will arrive!"

(to 18:20)

Erm... I've got some business to handle right now, so if anyone wants to continue from here, be my guest. I'll return as soon as possible.
I'm back and ready!

(18:22 - 18:50)

"I... ran a bit too slow..."
"The bomb blew up before I could escape."
"I was shocked when the rubble fell..."
"When I thought it was over for me..."
"That officer came to save me!"

Kokone: "[Judging] from her voice, her heart is in conflict."

(from 20:16)

[December 20, 2:56 pm
???? ????]

Kokone: "Ah, here it is!" (It sounds like she's saying her name.)
"Is anyone home? Doesn't seem like it!"
"Hi-yah!"
"Alright! Let's get investigating, Mr. Wright! ...Huh?"
"What's wrong? You've collapsed on the floor!"

Naruhodo: "*gasp gasp* Kokone, you run really fast..."

Kokone: "Ah! I-I'm sorry."

Naruhodo: "I know how you feel, but the evidence isn't going anywhere."

Kokone: "Y-yes, sir. But... just what is this room?"
"Especially that door... it's eerie!"

Naruhodo: "Isn't that the 'Ancient Vault' from our last discussion?" (I dunno what he's talking about.)
"(Okay. Let's have a look around. Where can I expect to find clues?)"

[< + >: Change view
O: Move the cursor]

Kokone: "If I have a good look at it... it's huge!"
"Very important things are kept inside, huh?"

Naruhodo: "Huh? The latch seems a bit slanted."

Kokone: "Eh? Did someone try to open it?"

Naruhodo: "Probably. The key got stuck, and the door didn't open."

(22:15)

Naruhodo: "The window is open..."

Kokone: "This room is pretty stuffy. It wasn't open enough before."
"...Huh? Are these shoeprints?"

Naruhodo: "(Huh, there are shoeprints on the window frame...)"
"It seems like someone has been trespassing..."

Kokone: "So that person tried to open that vault?"
"By the way, Mr. Wright, something's been bothering me."

Naruhodo: "What is it?"

Kokone: "I heard an odd noise earlier."

Naruhodo: "(Kokone's ears are really good...)"

Kokone: "Please try having a listen."

Naruhodo: "Ah, I did hear something. (What is that sound?)"

Kokone: "It might be coming from somewhere in this room."
"Anyway, let's get investigating!"

(22:31)

Kokone: "Eeeeeek!"

Naruhodo: "Th-this is...!"

Kokone: "Bo-bo-bo-bo-..."

Naruhodo: "(It's a bomb!)"

Kokone: "M-Mr. Cryght! W-what do we do!?" (lit. "Nakuhodo", "Cry-hodo")
"This is bad! Everyone won't escape in time!" (Not sure with first part here)

Naruhodo: "C-calm down, Kokone! (She got my name wrong.)"
"I can see the timer."
"There's still an hour left."

Kokone: "Oh! Th-that's right. Thank goodness..."

Naruhodo: "...So you 'cry' when you're scared?" (*coughtoughpunscough*)

Kokone: "W-what are you saying!? I'm calm! Calm!"

Naruhodo: "(She's covering for herself...)"

Kokone: "But... why is there a bomb here?"
"Oh! Maybe it's for blowing up the vault door!"

Naruhodo: "That's one really rough thief..."
"(But that bomb earlier, why was it on its side?)"
"(As if it accidentally fell...)"

(24:52)

Kokone: "Mr. Wright."
"The doors... somehow look unnatural, don't they?"

Naruhodo: "(That's right. They're stuck in their reversed positions.)"
"...Kokone, try opening them."

Kokone: "Eeh!? Me!?"
"Oh, no, by all means, they're yours, Chief Wright!"

Naruhodo: "...So be it."
"(What a time to call me 'Chief.')"
"Okay, I'm opening them."

???: "..."

Naruhodo: "..."

Kokone: "Eeeeeek!"

Naruhodo: "Aah! You!? (This guy set up the bomb...!)"

I am very sure they'll fix this. In PLvAA all character models are breathing and they're using pretty similar engines.

It's intentional. They said so on the stage presentation. They wanted to keep the feel of the original. That said, they still might tweak it a little before release.

Anyone else notice sometime after 1 hour 5 mins that the Layton VS GS trailer used a different shot of Maya's voice actress?

:shoe:

EDIT: At 1 hour 30 mins, there is a mention of a soundtrack and something like an "anime film" (Probably a short prologue of sorts? Don't take my word for it though). Any confirmation of what was said? :pearl:

OK.

OK OK OK OK OK I know I was horribly skeptic about this game, but now I am convinced. I am SO convinced.
I still don't care much for Nick being back, but Kokone? Kokone is amazing. I-I mean... Look at her! Her animations, actions, her dialouge! This girl just screams "Interesting Character" from bottom to top! She's not Maya, she's not Trucy, not Ema, not Kay... She's just she! Kokone! And I can already tell I love her! I mean AREJROJREFRÖ

NEVER BEFORE HAVE I WANTED A GAME JUST FOR A SINGLE CHARACTER LIKE THIS.

(Also, I ship her with Apollo already and we don't even know if she knows him yet. Ahahahahaha...)

Hmm, that's interesting. As I said, it doesn't look bad, just a bit odd (esp. compared to PL vs. AA). It looks easy to get used to, in any case.

As long as they're consistent with the style, of course. That one witness in the livestream looked like she had too much animation at times.

Apollo is always shipped with the timid girls. I never really could agree too much to that. Apollo might be loud, but he lacks real self-esteem. He needs someone with Self-Esteem to keep him moving, I think. But that's just my opinion. :yuusaku: *totallynotjusttryingtodefendhernewestOTPkokopollo*

Or do you mean your uploading them separately?

It wasn't private before. It was originally posted by Capcom Channel, so I guess they hid it for some reason.

Indeed

Speaking of which, anyone notice in PL vs. AA Wright now says "CHOTO" or whatever it was he said when he noticed Lamb lady had a comment about that rather old man's testimony?

Both "matta" and "choto" appear to mean about the same thing. I believe the prior means "wait" and the latter means "just a minute." I guess choto is less intense than matta?

Actually, maybe choto is used because Phoenix noticed something ("just a minute... something's off"), while matta is more of an interruption to ask for further elaboration ("wait!/hold it! what do you mean?").

Somebody else should probably back me up, since I'm nowhere near an expert at this.

It's "Chotto" not "Choto". And yeah, it's like you said, "Chotto" is a new shout for the mob trial system.

"Chotto" is short for "chotto matte kudasai", which means "Wait just a little bit, please!" so "Just a sec!" is the best translation, I think.

Since it's similar, and knowing Capcom, they'll be cheap on words and throw it in under 'Hold it' for any potential localisation.

Anywho, the PLvGS one is processing right now, but here is the link. If someone could sub, that would be great.

PLvGS TGS: http://youtu.be/ka-3c_RnsFk

Thanks. I've got the gameplay subbed, but the rest of the show, I've left out. Should I get to that, or is just this fine? Also, I don't know how to translate the spell names, so I've left them intact.

(from 17:50 to 26:17)

Kyke: "That's just it! After the 'meramin', the lamp fell with a 'clunk'!"

Bertha: "I... know the right place. I definitely saw it drop into the milk bucket."

Madara: "At first, I thought the lamp fell into the mud?"

Knights: "My eyes caught it all! When people were shouting about a spell, the lamp was in her hand!"

Wright: "(Somehow... it looks like I won't be drawing out more info like this.)"

Layton: "As I expected. You'll need to cross-examine them to find the wrong point."

Wright: "(After hearing one testimony, I'll have to 'question' the other three, huh...)"

Luke: "After pressing a witness, use the 'lens' to survey the expressions of the other three!"

Maya: "Once you find something strange, shout 'Wait a sec!' to question them!"

Wright: "(Cross-examining 4 witnesses at once... I'll try out this new 'battle style'!)"

HOLD IT!

"When you heard the spell, the lamp fell... Is that right?"

Kyke: "Yes, that's just it, I'm sure of it! When I heard that girl's voice, there was a 'clunk'!"

Wright: "And that 'clunk' you heard was the sound of the lamp falling?"

Kyke: "That's right, of course. ...Now you understand?"

Wright: "But, the lamp's glass is cracked. Wouldn't it be a 'clank'?"

Kyke: "The sound of the glass cracking...? No, I don't know about that."

WAIT A SEC!

"Is something the matter, Ms. Bertha?"

Bertha: "Eh, m-me?"
"But, I didn't say anything."

Wright: "(I thought so... suddenly she's making a nervous expression.)"
"That's true. But just now Mr. Kyke testified..."
"'When the lamp fell, it broke with a certain sound'..."
"But he 'doesn't know' what that was. How about you?"

Bertha: "Ah, well... about that..."
"......."
"...Is that alright? I'll talk about it."

Jeekin: "...I don't mind, Ms. goat lady. Tonight, I'm 'off-duty'."

Wright: "(Is that so...)"

Bertha: "I'll say what I saw. You see, I heard it."
"The sound of the lamp's glass cracking... it broke rather loudly."
"I was surprised... when I heard it break and saw where it fell. However..."
"I saw the figures of that girl and her companions. Um... it was a bit dark."

Judge: "The moment the lamp fell, the fire went out. Thus, she contends that she had seen the figures."
"The reasoning is sound."

Bertha: "A-and, when my eyes adjusted to the dark... um, I heard them."

Wright: "Heard what?"

Bertha: "Um, that... as in..."
"The 'meramin' spell."

"........"

Jeekin: "...What?"

Judge: "J-just... hold it, witness!"

Bertha: "Y-yes!"

Jeekin: "The lamp fell, and the glass broke. Then... you heard the 'meramin' spell."
"Are you certain of this declaration?"

Bertha: "Um... maybe..."

Kyke: "I-impossible! W-what about my testimony?"
"That 'meramin' came first! Then, the lamp went 'clunk'!"

Madara: "I.. didn't hear it! The sound of the glass breaking..."

Knights: "Preposterous! Whether the lamp fell or the glass broke..."
"doesn't change the fact that that girl is a witch!"

Wright: "Too bad... that won't work."
"The testimony just now has changed the circumstances. ...Isn't that right, Prosecutor Jeekin?"

Jeekin: ".....!"

Judge: "W-what are you talking about!?"

Wright: "From here, once again, let's go over the facts."
"For the witch to use 'magic', she needs to have the 'staff' in hand."
"...However, none of these four witnesses saw a staff."

Judge: "S-so, if no one saw the staff of 'miehen' magic...?"
(*wild guessing*)

Wright: "Regarding Mahone, the victim grabbed her arm, and the lamp fell."
"...That time, if she was holding an 'invisible staff'..."
"When the lamp fell, the staff would have fallen as well."
"Therefore, if we return to our previous discussion, Mahone using magic..."
"would have to be before the staff was dropped."
"However! The witness... Ms. Bertha had testified,"
"that the lamp fell and broke after she heard the 'meramin' spell!"

*gasp*

Wright: "Now, you understand?"
"Under those conditions, the assumption that Mahone is a 'witch'..."
"it would be impossible for her to use 'magic'."
"And so..."
"The defendant, Mahone, cannot be a witch!"

*more gasp*

Kyke: "Impossible! What are you saying! Are you saying that girl is not a witch!?"

Bertha: "Don't be ridiculous! I only said what I heard!"

Mahdara: "No way... you only misheard the sound of the glass breaking!"

Bertha: "But at least I didn't miss the cocka-doodle-doo!"

Knights: "Preposterous!"

Madara: "Please put that toy away!"

*slam*

Jeekin: "This site of judgement... is a site of competition. Whoever lets words fly around aimlessly will face my blade."
"Labyrinth City has been threatened by 'witches' and 'magic'."
"All your words will decide the whole fate of this nation... yet you go on like that."
"Therefore, those statements are of the highest importance. With a solid resolution, speak the 'truth'!"

"......."

Judge: "This... has never happened before."
"The witnesses have all fallen silent!"

Jeekin: "What a pitiful group of witnesses."

Layton: "It seems..."
"This trial cannot continue... as it is now."

Wright: "Eh? Then..."

Layton: "Yes, it is your victory, Mr. Naruhodou."

Wright: "(Our... victory...)"

Judge: "I can't believe such a thing has happened..."
"This court began with an abnormal situation... and another takes place here."
"The witnesses have nothing more to say. The trial will have to end here."
"Is that alright, Lord Jeekin Barnrod?"

Jeekin: "...It will have to do."

"What's going on here...?"
"That witch... the city will be left to fend for itself...?"
"Damn it! Don't be deceived by the words of that witch's allies!"
"Jeekin! Jeekin! Jeekin! Jeekin!"

HOLD IT!

Old man: "...This trial cannot possibly end yet!"
"Let me testifyyyyyy!"

Judge: "Order! Order! Orderrr! Just what are you...!"

Old man: "I am HERE! Just what am I? I am..."
"This case's 5th witness! Gahahahahahaha!"

Wright: "Whaaaaat!?"

Jeekin: "Whaaaaat!?"

Wright: "(Why is the prosecution just as surprised?)"

Old man: "...As I thought, without me, this trial is hopeless!"
"Alright, everyone! Huddle up for our strategies!"

Kyke: "Oh! The leader..."

Bertha: "has come at a great time!"

Madara: "We aren't done yet!"

Knights: "Now that it's come to this, those bread and hat sellers will be beaten silent!"

Wright: "(This... just what's going on here!)"

Layton: "...This is a surprising turn of events. A new witness has appeared."
"He is quite the stubborn man."

Wright: "(Then... this trial isn't over yet!)"

First I want to thank you for the translation so far, it's great! But it would be nice, if you could give us a summary what they else said about the game (especially what Takumi said).

Btw. the art style of the flashback is amazing.

You're welcome! :pearl:

While they're playing through the demo, most of them simply react to moments in the game. Takumi occasionally drops in a joke, but he basically explains the mechanics of the cross-examination.

Highlights on the new "Chotto!" and multiple witnesses on the stand. Nick shouts it when he sees a witness react to another witness' testimony. Use the magnifying glass on the lower screen to scroll through witnesses and see their reactions.

Takumi does mention that because it's a different world, they follow a slightly different kind of logic (but it's not too different). You need to search for strong logical contradictions to convince everyone: i.e. Mahone is unable to use magic without her staff, and because she dropped it when she was robbed by the victim, she couldn't have been the one to cast a spell. No one cares that none of the witnesses saw the staff in her hand.

Give me a moment, I'll check what the voice actors said here...

Okay, they're just messages to the fans. Oizumi expects great things for both fanbases, and Narimiya objects to the people who don't get this game.

Um, somehow this reminds me of GS5.
Contradictory expressions.
And since this probably came first.....

This system doesn't involve contrary expressions though; it's about monitoring the reactions of other people on the current testimony, and moving from one witness to another by picking out the people who (probably) have something to tell you.
