Chelmey's in! That gives me hope for seeing characters like Edgeworth and Gumshoe appear as well. I like how the English court looks; it's quaintly 'Ace Attorney.' Our good old police-man with the bobby hats.

It's a really beautiful looking game. I truly love the artstyle and how it translates into 3D. The music is top notch, too, so I have no worries about the presentation. I just hope the story and characters live up to my hype, but it should be the case.

Now, if anybody would be so kind and could translate the new stuff for us? :)
I guess the women in the busines dress next to schoolgirl Mahoney is the witch from the boxart and I wonder who the new blonde guy is.

I like the new court record look, it looks nicer.

And judging from all the presented content so far it looks like this game is going to be more than long enough.

I don't have the time to translate everything right now, but basically both sides of the story start off just in the typical manner. Here is what i already roughly translated:

Quote:
How the story beginns

Layton VS Ace Attorney beginns with a Chase Scene. A fire, summoned by a mysterious power accompanied by countless flying shadows, appears before two people. Struck by the mysterious power, their car derails. What will happen to the two of them now...!?

First meeting with Mahoney

It is a rainy night in London. Layton and Luke are visited by a girl holding a letter adressed to them.

"To Professor Layton

It's been a while. It's me, Giovanni.

There is a lot I have to talk to you about, but there is no time to write it all down in this letter. Right now, my life is in danger.[...]

The letter goes on and Giovanni talks about how he got lost in Labyrinth City, a City that is shown on no maps. After reading the letter, they're attacked by the mysterious power. Mohoney is suddenly gone, her cape stays behind.

On the other side of the story, with Nick and Maya, it looks like Mahoney was suddenly his client somehow (as a regular schoolgirl), but her eyes are empty, so I suspect some kind of possession or illusion to be going on there. The woman with her is "Miss Jordalla", apparently her teacher.

Also, I can't be the only one who thinks that Miss Jordalla looks like Ema if she was the Empress Arcana in the new Persona game, can I...?

The witness' name is "Yutorino Gardner". God bless him with that name...

Personally, I think the game looks amazing so far, it gives me the exact vibe I would expect from a perfect crossover between those two franchises and character design is gorgerous. I dunno if Kazuya Nuri is working on this too, but I suspect it (especially because how much Miss Jordalla looks like Ema...)
Can't wait to play it! :maya:

The blonde guy is a security guard and a witness in a case Phoenix is in. The new prosecutor is called Batterly.

These names are quite strange...I wonder if they just meant to sound like generic Western names.
I wonder how they would be localised.

Just saw on Twitter that the game received the rating "CERO B" in Japan. That means "Ages 12 and up".

EDIT: Just for comparision, I checked the box of my japanese copy of GS4. That game was only rated CERO A, meaning suitable for all ages.
That's right, Layton VS Ace Attorney was judged more psychologically harmful to children than Kristoph Gavin.

Possibly it could be all the references to the supernatural (witches and what not) that put it over the edge.

Ah, no, I meant the driver who wrote the letter (apparently his name is Giovanni, so I guess he's from Italy). The security guard is already known from the TGS.

Thanks to Neni for the fast translation.

Gardner's a western surname. A bit strange that they've given him a Japanese/Asian first name, when they're supposed to be in England.

Note that I just romanized the Katakana. "Yutorino" could also be meant to be read as something else, like "U'torino" or something silly like that. I have no idea. :payne:

Yutorino doesn't sound very Japanese, which is why I thought it was strange. Gardner is a Western, I know, and Batterly sounds fairly normal as well. Names like Jordalla sound very psuedo-Western though.

It reminded me of AII where Alba was called Carnage Onred, which although sounds Western to Japanese ears but sounds very unusual to Western ears.

Maybe "Yutorino" is something shortened like "Jutlin"? Sounds more English at least, albeit still very pseudo-styled, though it doesn't really match the Japanese writing of it. Who knows. Maybe he's a Japanese born in an English family. :yuusaku:

Also, judging by the boxart, could that woman, "Jordalla" (though her name reads more like "Jodora" to me, but then again, Jordalla does sound more like an actual name) or whoever it is be what they refer in the trailer to as 'Becella the Witch'? She certainly looks ominous enough to fit the role.

Moreover, I personally refer Batterly's name to as 'Bartley'. Sounds more British to me. :yogi: My bet is that he's the London equivalent of Payne as a tutorial level. Poor guy.

Gardner's my favorite newcomer so far just because he's so over the top enthusiastic about testifying. That chocolate and the hat throwing and everything. Just brilliant.

Can anyone translate this?

For now I'll speculate: It seems to be that Phoenix and Maya flew out to London to defend Mahoney for a crime, and somehow they get sucked into a story, along with Layton and Luke. This would definitely explain the differences in each world, such as the look of the courtroom, the prosecutor, and the judge. Not to mention if you notice in the recent trailer, Phoenix's life is shields instead of exclamation points, which could account for this strange but awesome difference! :godot:

Yeah, I think British-Payne is supposed to be Bartley. And my money's on Jordalla/Jordora being the woman on the cover and the villain of the England case.

Good to see Chelmey and Barton get cameos! Though I doubt the setting'll allow for any from Ace Attorney.

The cat is probably important, the Famitsu article actually points out a puppet of the cat is also on Jordolla's bag (and Mahone has a little witch).

My gut feeling would say Eutrino Gardner for the guard. Which seems slightly more plausible as a Western name than Yutorino.

Oh, and the Famitsu article also gives the full name for Giovanni: Giovanni Jicole. I have no idea what would be a real Italian name, so feel please to change the spelling of that...

I read it as "yutori no" Gardner, as in referring to how laid back he seems. How do you translate that into a name?

Edit: Why don't we have the victim's name? The autopsy report seems incomplete.

The guys name is Giovanni? RUN ITS TEAM ROCKET!

But on a serious note, its nice to see that the AA portion has been translated into an english style, with the judge and his silly silly British legal wig.
Loving the overall look and style of it now, its all suspenseful as to the english previews and releases.

just one question, What is Phoenix doing in England? if he's a lawyer that means he would have had to have studied British law aswell (like edgey did with various methods in AAI) before being able to practice it hmmmmmmm?
and how did mahoney end up as his client if he's an AMERICAN LAWYER WITH NO FIRM IN? THE UK!!!!?????

I am going to assume that someone wrote a letter asking him to take the case. Because unlike Japanifornia Britain doesn't employ the three day rule.

It doesn't really matter, so most likely they won't tell us. Probably between JFA and T&T. After JFA he should be famous enough and there is a time window of several months we don't know anything about.

That was a demo, though. I doubt Maya smashing the 4th wall into pieces is canon. X'D
