No, you wouldn't starve at all since you would, like, eat local stuff instead of imported produce which can be quite expensive indeed. More often that not, there's a local variation which is way cheaper than the imported stuff.
You wouldn't starve at all, as there's loads of stuff you've probably never heard of which is just DE-LI-CIOUS. :hotti:

But yeah, it's rather off-topic.

Still no VLR on Amazon. Tempted to just write them a mail to tell them to wake the hell up :p

Yeah, I noticed in my playthrough that that was the only time they ever showed Sigma's head...

Not that you can see anything since it's so zoomed out.

Forgive the further offtopicness, but in Japan, it's not rare to have local produce more expensive than imported stuff. Especially meat. Well, I can understand some local things like beef being expensive. Japan probably doesn't have much farm land dedicated to cows and other livestock. But I'd expect more traditional produce like rice to be cheaper.

Anyway, highly anticipating an e-mail from Amazon next week...

Also, this just reminds that I missed out on going to Japan this Summer. :[

It would have been with people I didn't know, though. So that would have probably just been terrifying.

Spoiler:
I was watching through the English opening to see if they changed the name of 506. But it's still GLTM-KM506 in the trailer. So that makes me wonder if they're even going to try and localize the joke.

Well, this is a cruel twist of fate. I just got an email from amazon saying I wouldn't be getting the preorder bonus, despite having made my order back in May. Maybe the fact that I preordered before there was a bonus had something to do with it? Or maybe the fact that's actually bought stuff then and applied a 5% discount and that screwed something up internally at Amazon?

Ah who cares. I'm getting what I ordered in May, no less. And I'll be getting more joy out of the game then that hunk of plastic.

Yeah, I think that might be the case. But I'm still waiting for Aksys to give an official response of some sort about the pre-orders.

In a less upsetting note, the OVA is out.

It is stupid. But it has voices.

Also, they added some new information that the JP OVA didn't have. But they also completely botched up how the AB rooms work. They said that if you pick [Ally] and your opponent picks [Betray], then you lose two points and your opponent gains two points. Even though it shows hypothetical Luna gaining three points at the same time.

To be fair, it's a silly OVA that's not really top priority, so one tiny mistake isn't really telling.

And the way the sentence was worded more naturally flowed into a second 'two', so I can see how the mistake was made. Although I don't know how nobody caught it before they uploaded it. Or maybe they did, but they didn't want to get his voice actor back in the studio to record one more line again, so they were just like 'whatever'.

The English voices are quite good and finally I could hear more of K, Clover and Tenmyouji. English K is better than I thought after the demo and English Clover is fine. Tenmyouji sounds too hardcore for an old man, though.
Phi still sucks and Alice isn't that great either. The rest is very good, I think Zero III has my favorite English voice.

...I got the exact same thing. I preordered back in April. So... ugh.

Did they completely forget about people that placed preorders super early? Aksys at least intended that the early preorders would get it, since a staff member specifically said we'd get it too.

They say they intend to get more of the bonus edition soon, but is that before or after the game is shipped? No point in owning two of the same thing...

EDIT: does anyone remember who the Aksys person was that said that? I want to follow his Twitter now in case he has any updates.

That's the annoying thing about NeoGaF. They make it pretty hard to get on there.

I can understand that they want to reduce the amount of trolls and bots, but if you take months to approve accounts, that's probably not the best idea.

Yeah, sorry guys >.<

Unfortunately I can't directly comment on things. Amazon has asked us to direct all inquiries regarding the bonus to them directly.

Hopefully everyone who was supposed to get a watch will be able to get one in the future, but I apologize for the current inconvenience.

I appreciate the forthrightness. Or at least, being as forthright as one can be under non-disclosure. (Which I guess isn't very? But it's a ton better then not saying anything at all) anyways, they're in an unenviable position and it's been only a few hours. I bet Aksys and Amazon are still trying to figure out what happened and what if anything can be done from here out.

=P for some reason I'm more interested in this controversy then the watch itself.

If I'm not mistaken, GAF account approvals happen in batches. In my case I was lucky enough to try and register just a week or two before they started processing accounts again.

As for the watch, yeah, I got hosed on it too. Really disappointing, and it seems like the VLR watches are going to wind up even scarcer than the 999 ones. Hopefully at some point down the line they can do another run of them, but that doesn't seem very likely from the way the folks at Aksys have been talking.

Personally, I find it a little alarming to see people throwing fits about the watches. Not just now, but when anything about it would come up. Whatever happened to pre-ordering a game to make sure you can get it on/near release? Hell, I pre-ordered the Japanese version, not because it came with bonus, but because I wanted the game.

It probably would have been better if it was never a pre-order bonus, but just an item that they sold on their website.

No. It's right to be enraged about being lied to. Otherwise everyone everywhere would be walked over and taken advantage of. But yes, the watch isn't exactly something to loose sleep over.

That said, I'm not buying this story. Amazon claims ignorance. Aksys says it's not their fault. Someone is lying, or at least, being deliberately misinformed, which ultimately is the same thing.

The interesting thing to note is that there doesn't appear to be enough watches to fulfill all the preorders post-preorder announcement. That infers an issue with the initial order for the watches. So who made the order for those watches? Was it Aksys or Amazon? Second, because stock ran out so close to release, that infers that the order was based upon (shy) sales estimates specifically for the special preorder version. The problem with that, is that they should've long had the numbers for Amazon's pre-preorder version. So, whoever made the order was only looking at the watch version.

I don't pretend to understand commercial producer-vender relations, and the watch is an Amazon exclusive which blurs the line of blame. The error is clearly on Amazon's systems, that much I do not doubt. But who was behind the controls? Was it an Amazon employee or an Aksys one?

One thing to keep in mind is that the pre-order bonus version of the game is a separate listing here [this is the 3DS one; there's probably a Vita one too]: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009APQ9R4

That is likely one thing that led to complications. Which is stupid if true, since I can think of several ways to get around that.
  • Convert original pre-orders to use the new item number. There is a cap on how many of the new items are available.
  • Convert the original item number to be the pre-order bonus version and make a new listing for the game only. The original item gets a cap on number of orders.
  • Use only one order number. The top X pre-orders (sorted from oldest to newest) get the pre-order item. Probably would cause some customer confusion though.

Also, I agree with you Wooster. Someone is lying to the customer, and making the other company look bad. Question is, which one? Right now both are under fire, and it seems like Amazon will take the bigger hit (not that it's going to be a deadly blow or anything). A good number of posts on Amazon's forums talk about dropping the pre-order and buying the game at a local store (e.g. Gamestop), rather than refusing to buy the game period.

Personally? I'm sticking to my Amazon pre-order. It's much more convenient in my situation anyway. As long as the game is shipped the way it should be, I'll be fine. Just a bit bummed that I couldn't get the watch, especially when I would not have canceled and renewed the pre-order if I knew about its existence earlier on the day it was announced.

You make a very good point about the handling of the different order IDs. And actually, the way that was handled makes it seem like a deliberate action.

So, for sake of argument, lets say that Amazon had autonomy on the order for the watches. That wouldn't change the fact that there's two SKUs.

Here's what I think happened:

  • Aksys puts up Virtues Last Reward on Amazon.
  • Months later Aksys decides they're going to offer a preorder item.
  • They add a new SKU to their Amazon account for the preorder. (Makes sense right?)
  • Skip ahead to October Amazon sends Aksys the bill with the number of watches and the number of games
  • Aksys notices that the # of watches ≠ # of game orders.
  • Aksys contacts Amazon and asks them to correct the error with the preorders without watches.
  • Amazon says they can't because the deadline for that change has already past. (Orders are made, warehouses are prepped etc etc)
  • Cue Apology letter from Amazon & Shitstorm

The question is, who made the order on Aksys's end, and how did he/she do it? If they used Amazon's web interface, I don't think there's any excuse. If the person in question called or emailed Amazon about the change, then there's room for human error on Amazon's end. But, even in that event, that could be attributed to poor communication on Aksys's part, and further it's still Aksys's responsibility to ensure their wares are in order. It's just a royal shame that the warning bells came far too late.

Spoiler: Hopefully Cracked Conspiracy Theory
Okay, no one willfully gives themselves a PR nightmare. But, for sake of argument, lets say that the confusing SKUs were a deliberate act on Aksys's part. Not a safe assumption, but for lack of disclosure, that's Amazon's and Aksys's fault.

That would help Aksys's profit margins by spending less on watch based bribes for their customers, after all, they already have the profits en route by those who ordered prior to the preorder announcement. Why bribe those who don't need bribing?

The pre-order bonus versions of VLR have suddenly gone live (before now it was "sign up to get notified when it's available). I have no idea if this means they got more or what, but here you go.

Vita: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009APQ9QU/
3DS: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009APQ9R4/

Personally, I'm pre-ordering this one and holding on to my original pre-order until somebody officially states whether or not one will get the watch, then I'll cancel one.

Of course, this could be all a mistake, but (to me) it's better to hop on now than wait for confirmation, since it could still be in limited qualities if this is legitimate.

Ship date is really soon though, so I hope they say something sooner...

Those links were supposed to be sent to people who got the E-mail saying that they weren't getting the watch.

Which makes me think it really was an issue with the two SKUs.

Will have it Thursday through Amazon. It took all my willpower not to walk over to the Gamestop two blocks away from where my last class of the day was held.

Supposedly some people are already getting notices from Amazon saying that their copy is being shipped.

If that's true, I might be able to get mine by tomorrow. Since I always seem to get it a day earlier than I'm supposed to with 2 day shipping. Which is why I never bother getting 1-day shipping.

Edit: My 'shipping soon' text has went from normal text to BRIGHT ORANGE text, so I hope this is a sign.

Also, I feel this GIF from NeoGAF is appropriate here:

It is very appropriate.

BP, you need to stick around so we can laugh maniacally together once everyone else starts playing.

I'm getting it again for the voice acting (Even if K, Tenmyouji, and Zero III are meh) , the watch, and the localization. Mainly the localization.

Wait what what? Zero III's dub is fantastic.

Speaking of, anyone have a list of the English voices? All I'm really sure about are the obvious ones (Clover, Luna, Dio, Alice). Phi and Tenmyouji sound reeeeeeeeeally familiar but I can't seem to place them.
