but there are some basic mistakes.
1. The suit is too dark. There is a difference between black black and light gray black.
2. The lines [especially at the part where his hair meets his head] need cleaning, so it won't be so blocky.
3. Since you used Paynes 2nd darkest color to make the suits color, it ended up "deleting" some of his suits lines. Zoom in, and you see that many pixels have 'disappeared' since they're same color as the light part of the suit.
4. Which leads to; The lines that need to be dark are far too light.
Since I'm not that great explaining what I mean, I guess the old "here's an example" -have to do the trick this time.
Compare your work on the left to my edit on the right and try to learn from it.
There's no better method than examining it yourself, realizing the mistakes yourself and then working on with those yourself.
And FYI; I'm not trying to be "The Rookie [Spriter] Killer" here.
Just always thought that...Well let me put it this way;
If there's critic to give, might as well say it straight out, no?

1; The side of his head...Why the color difference? Use the shade on his chin (f.e) for the rest of the side of the head too, not darker.

That's pretty common here as I've seen...People don't really feel confident with their works
and sometimes they do it just to make people come in and see their works.
...It was cute ate first but...After like 10.000 of that same kinda thing it gets...tiresome...
