So it's actually longer, if you don't count the time you had to repeat things in 999, amirite?

If you had to go back to the beginning every time, getting all of the endings would probably be closer to 80 hours.

There are four times as many endings as 999, of course it's longer.

It would be really annoying if you had to start from the beginning on each playthrough :D Theres no "Begin with memories" this time right?

That is correct; instead of "Begin with memories" you can just choose any point that you've been to before on the timeline. The equivalent to "Begin with memories" is to choose the very first node in the timeline.

Which is unfortunate, because if that was available, I could have salvaged my corrupted save... you have to load the game to get to the timeline, since you can't just get to it from the main menu.

Okay, so I found my 3DS (it was uncovered in the oven mitt drawer DUH. That's like… the first place anyone would look for their 3DS right?) And I got to the True Ending. Also, I'm a bit… weirded out by the fact that all I need to do to make my 2 easy endings hard was to just load that locked room, check my archive for the password, and insert it. That… er… kinda defeats the purpose of redoing the puzzle room. I'm not necessarily complaining mind. And that does mean that my Archive archive is incomplete, but that seems a bit too easy, maybe?

Spoiler: Anyways, True Ending
So, half the cast is going to play Time Lord, eh? I'm really curious how K is going to take this in the past. He wasn't exactly a consenting player in this game.

Also, what's with Zero Sigma's message to Phi saying, don't tell Kevin? Phi claimed she didn't understand the significance of that. But then when asked specifically she pulled the Cat Paradox to dodge the question. That was a curiously paper thin lie she told.

No no, I get that. I mean the earlier lie. Why would Phi lie about not knowing what Zero Sigma ment, only to turn around and explain that she did indeed know and that she can't say due to cat paradox. My problem is with her claiming ignorance.

I don't remember 100%, but... maybe, she knows that she can't tell Kyle, so she says she doesn't know to try to get out of it, but she sees that he obviously doesn't buy it, so she just tells him the real reason she can't tell him.

Also, did they change Kyle's name to Kevin in the english version, or was that just a typo on your part, Wooster?

Here it is, just cancelled my order on Amazon.fr... and finally bought my very first game on the Nintendo eShop :shoe:
It's downloading right now, and I'll probably start playing it this evening (if I don't feel ill, live I've been the past few days :o).

And I understand how the 'replay to get all endings' thing works now. Indeed, if you don't have to pass through read text AND don't have to redo some puzzle rooms, VLR is indeed quite longer than 999.
That being said, I liked redoing some puzzles room when going for different endings in 999... though I admit, with 4 times as many endings, it would've been quite tedious in VLR, I think.

Anyway, only 10h or so before I start playing VLR. Let the slaughter begin :shoe:

What price? The 3DS's? If yes, then you should definitely get the console (the XL version, it's just sooo much better :gant: ) for Christmas, as the price isn't likely to go down for a while.
Now, you have to put a picture of the console everywhere in your house, always talk about the 3DS and VLR every time you're vising family (or family's visiting), buy yourself a 3DS t-shirt and wear it every single day till Christmas, etc... And I think your family will understand you want a 3DS and VLR for Christmas :shoe:

I personally had the money to buy that stuff myself, but I know I would've loooooved getting a 3DS + VLR for Christmas.
I remember the only time I got a console for Christmas, that was the N64 in the early 2000. The child inside me still have fond memories of that night (even though I did go to buy it with my mother at the time :p).

But quite honestly... I strongly, VERY STRONGLY suggest you play 999 first. Why? Because it's an absolutely great game. Believe me, you won't regret this. And playing 999 (a DS game) before VLR (a 3DS/Vita), you won't be put off by the graphics after playing VLR (even though 999 looks quite great for a DS game, thanks Visual Novels :p).

999 is very, very hard to get in the Netherlands, so I feel his pain. Even play.com asks €60 for a used copy. I was quite lucky with my €40 deal.

Yeah! found a €38 deal on the first site you see when you type: 9 doors etc... kopen (dutch for buying). Started playing today in the train to work. My first impression of the game is that it's like Saw meets pretentious novel (instead of: I walked that way it's I was dragging my feet in an upward motion towards my intended goal...) but I'm digging it so far. I like challenges and I have a feeling the puzzels will get quite... challenging.

Nah, please don't compare 999 to Saw. One is just an attempt to attract teenagers with gratuitious violence, and the other is a finely crafted VN with a very interesting and complex plot, very well written and with great characters and puzzles too. That's my opinion at least ;)
As for the puzzles, they're not too hard in 999, dunno about VLR yet.

Well like I said it's only a first impression. I mean, waking up in a room and immediately solve a puzzle with your life on the line? Not in terms of violence, but in a matter of: solve puzzle --> remain alive --> obtain freedom at the end this reminded me of saw.
The game does seem to have great dialog between the characters though, and i'm very curious on how the story and the characters will develop during the game.[/quote]

When I first played 999 I first thought of Saw as well I confess, and have heard some Amazon reviewers trying to sum it up by saying "Saw meets Professor Layton" (I did it myself by saying "Saw meets Choose Your Own Adventure" or "Wes Craven meets Lost") but theres more to it than that :D

999 looks like SAW at first, but is really nothing like it. Especially once you realize...

Spoiler: Kind of 999 spoilers

Nooooooo! That's it, pre-order cance.... oh wait. I already downloaded VLR :beef: Just kidding of course :shoe:

But yeah, I understand the comparison with Saw, I was just teasing you, Sjibbey (well, sort of :shoe:)
I also had that impression when I first played the game, but it didn't last long. Let's just say that 999 does have some violence in it, but the writer really has made it meaningful and impactful, it's not stuff like 'hey, what about sawing that dude's arm? Come on, it'll be fun' :garyuu:

Ok, only 2h+ until I can play VLR, finally :keiko:

I'm afraid I haven't a single clue. I started downloading by keeping the 3DS open next to me, then I switched to 'download while in sleep mode' for a bit. I'd say about 1h, but that's not really a good indication since I didn't check, and my internet connection wasn't that great (only 2 'jewels' at a time... you know, that funny-looking progress bar i really love :D), so it didn't download at full speed.

All I know that the game is about 3782 blocks, which is about 2GB. I believe the demo was somewhere around 1000 blocks. Sorry for not being able to be more specific on that one :yogi:

Edit : oh, realised you were talking about games, not that game in particular (though I think you mean '3DS games', not downloadable titles like Fallblox). Answer: well, it depends. Some games are big (VLR, which is bigger than NSMB2 :p), some are a bit smaller (like Pilotwings Resort). VLR is the first retail game I actually bought the digital version of, instead of the retail one (because I wanted to get it on Day one :p), so I don't really know how fast it is. It's not too long, though for Wii U games which are several GB (like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which is about 16.2GB, it does take a while to download.... like it would on PC or any other download service like Steam :)).

Agreed. More often than not, NOT showing something is infinitely more effective than showing the actual thing. If the most gruesome parts of the game were so impactful (the very first death, for example), that's precisely because they didn't show it directly (it would've been plain grotesque, imo).

Twice at least. Loving my 3DS <3

Okay; 'bout six hours on the game and I love it.
The Ally/Betray system adds that little tension on the game that the original 999 was missing IMO.
...Or then I just feel like it now that I've witnessed it. Either way; loving this.

I guess right now K is my favorite character. I just love his thinking and shocked poses. Sooooooooo cute!!
Also Phi is more interesting than I first thought, but...yeah...
And so far I don't like Sigma at all...He's more pervertic than...One or few perv jokes like in 999 is okay, but this guy just shoots 'em out like no tomorrow...
I laughed for the first few but now its like; "...Again...? ...Really...?"
And I also love Zero III at first I was thinking (trailers etc) that I wouldn't but...I just love that little guy. Ku-ku-ku-ku-ku-ku-ku-kuuuuuu!! (+ the puns)

But how's my game going really?
I decided to take the trip with Luna and Phi, ally and go with that....Yeeeeeah...Not the greatest way to start, since....the story lock...
After that I decided to betray and go with that after I realized you can skip directly to exact parts of the story.
I continued untill it was the room puzzle time and skipped again to the other part of the same betray; different room.
Why? Because I was thinking the right side, as the longest, is probably the true end part, so I'd hit another lock soon too...
So currently I'm running with leftmost way and going with it. Currently in the Lounge.
(Not bad for the first day I suppose...)

Okay; some things I have on mind on the characters; SPOILERS-possibly
Spoiler:
So I accidentally read on one place that Akane IS in the game too, so right now my safest bet for Zero sr is Luna. I dunno, is it just me or does she look like her?
Also; I had a thought (might be random as heck) that K is actually Ace....yeeeeah...I dunno why, just had a thought all of sudden. At least he's hiding SOMETHING under that mask...But I guess I'll see soon enough.

Iish, I'm writing in a hurry because I just wanna grab that 3DS again to continue playing, so sorry if this message is..odd...
I really put no thought on writing it; I just wrote stuff okay lol?! :P

Now if you'll excuse me...I'm gonna escape this place asap!!

I can't wait to start seeing a new wave of first impressions again!

We never really had this with 999, just a few sporadic first impression threads here and there after the initial release.

Indeed. I'm interested to read this stuff,
so it's bit disapointting when not that many people have the game yet...But...Sooooooon...!! It'll begin <3

Anyway;
Situ-ation-up-daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate...!!

So I did play yesterday bit more and managed to get stuck into that room with robot (Luna & Alice)
Mostly because I was dead tired at that moment -> couldn't think straight and I had no idea what to do.
I'll continue in a minute though.

So...I got overthinking again in the left route and here's an (proporeably stupid) idea of the current events.

(contains spoiler info though rest is more like...crazy theorie. Also spoilers for original 999)
Spoiler:
...Maybe the old lady that was killed is Akane? And Tenmyoldie is Santa? Maybe they froze Clover and Alice and someone else (or two if Alice doesn't count) for...some reason.
Maybe it's happening more further in the future, than the game is trying to make me believe?
I dunno...Just and odd thought I had, but...Now I'm partly waiting for this lol.

As a side note...I can't believe anyone hasn't pointed out the III part of the bunnys name.
They call him Zero jr, but...I can't believe none of them paid attention to that 3 in the name.
I mean; granted; from the previous game it's clear to us that Akana is Zero and Santa is Zero-2,
but I just can't believe none of them has suggested a possibility of another Zero too...Or maybe it's stil coming; dunno.

That's all I have for now. I come make another update as the game progress's.
Now I'm off to beat that damn robotic clinic...!!

Oh...One more thing though...It might be just that I'm hyped for this game right now (got it yesterday lol but still)
I'm happy that we seem to get the 999-3 too. I just went to wikipedia to read stuff from this game and this hit my eye;
"Sequel - Kotaro Uchikoshi recently revealed in an interview with Nintendo Power that a sequel to Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is currently in development"
Somebody confirm if this is true or bs, but if true...I freaking love them. <3

I'm pretty sure that Hongou is Zero and Santa is Zero-2. Or was it Akane? I forgot if Santa was just bluffing when he said he was. Anyway, only one Zero in each of the first two games.

Various things that Uchikoshi has confirmed about the next game, including a few characters:

Spoiler: Major end game spoilers. And I guess possible ZE3 spoilers.
Uchikoshi confirmed that the woman from the audio recording on Tenmyouji's route is the woman Luna is based on.

He also confirmed that Junpei will be involved in the game.

And that Left will be there in some capacity. We don't know how, but one could assume that it's just a Left Clone, probably not Left himself.

So that means that we know the following characters are:

- Sigma (Player)
- Phi (Player)
- Human Luna (Player)
- Left (Unknown, likely a player)
- Junpei (Unknown, likely the operator we hear in the audio recording)
- Kyle (Unknown)

Anyway; I've been playing for all day now; so another situation update
(glad the 999-3 is true though <3)

God dagnit!! I played trough the leftmost ally way and...yeah. Got only To be Continueds or Game Overs...
Luna Game Over, K Game Over, Warehouse B lock, Directors office lock...Just god dangit!!
So I googled a little and...I'm suposed to get Clover Ending first? (or cheat and look things online lol...Not gonna happen though.)
Hhhhh....Now entering the Yellow door with Phi & Tenmyoji...Let's see if this works this time...

Mind if I add; at first I thought that these To be Continueds were stupid, might be because they remind me of Coffin ending from 999, but...oh well....
Now I kinda see their point. Sure; it breaks the moment, but...This is the best way IMO.
And granted; the Game Over screens I went because...well...game completion.
I knew that
Spoiler:
no matter what he'd say; letting K get 9 points is bad, but...Game completion, you see.
Just like I was an ass and betrayed Luna for same reason.

Anyway; what's on my mind right now from the current events?
Spoiler:
I honestly have no idea who Zero is anymore. Except I don't believe it's Dio, since their making him too suspicious (and him dying in the K path helped on that too lol)

Now about K...Still my favorite character. After how he went on a ride in the rec room, how he could not?! Giant riding a kids toy while yelling Heee-he-he-he-he-he-he! -priceless.
Granted; he is WAAAaaaaaaaayyyyyy suspicious now. When he had that little flashback of his father all I did was just skip the text really and just stare his rabbit...if that's foreshadowing I found it damn cool.
Also; looking through secret files...His father doesn't happen to be...Ace? I dunno...After everything I wouldn't be a little surprised if Ace would make this nice cameo.

About this "Golem" robot...I don't like it...PLEASE tell me Phi, Sigma or Quark isn't really a robot...I don't know how I'd like that....
And about K...He better not be one either. I'm thinking that he might be a lot younger in his armor than he sounds, but...Please no robots...Please.... :larry:

Not sure how the old nanny fits the game now. She was a player too? Okay; my guess is Tenmyoji killed her and gave the bracelet to Quark to save him from Zero (him being an unneeded person disturbing the game, or something.)
Still thinking he might be Santa or Zero though. I dunno why but...I find that old geezer too suspicious.
And on that note; something from the old lady still say Akane to me, when the other half of my brain says K's "mom"
...Oh well...I'll get to it soon.

About this who killed Luna thing...Don't know the truth yet but so far it looks like Clover is guilty... (I picked her a s the choice when I needed to)
I dunno...They said that Dio didn't pay that much time in there, so I guess I though he just went offscreen to check Lunas pulse and then fled in terror or something,
but I'm not suspecting him to be her killer. Granted; he confessed murdering the old lady but...Part of me doubts this...
I might be wrong though, but...these games just make you doubt everything. But that's why I love these, I guess.

Did I have anything else to say...Hmmm...

Oh yeah! So they finally revealed where Quark was...And like I'd be surprised. I swear; EVERYTIME they went searching for him I was like; "Look at the pods, look at the pods...!!!"
And then they finally did and I was like; "Nnnnhhhhhhhoooooooooooooohhhhhh..."

...I guess I had something else in my mind too, but...Can't remember it.
I guess I'll come back for this later, if I remember.

Just wanting to tell I began to Like Sigma though. During this route he has been more likable and...just shown some heroic qualities too.
So yeah...Maybe we started on wrong foot or something but....I like him now. A bit...Though K is still my favorite!! :D

Ne, ne...I guess I'll continue again.
I keep you guys up on the score again tomorrow.

Just one more thing...It's about those spoiler tags ya guys posted now...Can I read them or will I spoil myself from the point I'm now?
Thanks before hand.

See ya guys tomo ~ orrow.

You can read the ones labeled Response. They just contain 999 spoilers.

So, almost 11h in, and I haven't even reached the first ending o_O
I'm pretty sure it'll take way more than 40h for me to complete everything at this rate.... or it's just that the left most path is the longest?
Since I'm too lazy to write my full impressions, I'm just gonna make a bullet-point list :p

- is it me, or deaths feel incredibly underwhelming compared to 999?
- lol @ 5 letter words taking 15s to appear completely due to the discrepancy between the original japanese dub and the subtitles :p
- ally/betray system is really cool, though I can't really bring myself to betray anyone... especially not Luna/Phi (never had to vote against her anyway), or even Clover (yes I know what you did to me in 999, twice iirc, but it's forgiven). Now, Dio... I'll have a hard time NOT chosing betray for him :shoe:
- did we really need to be explained stuff 3 times in a row? Like, 1st by the rat AI, then by Junp... errr Sigma's summary, then by Phi/random character. It happens several times in the game too. Guess the write really wanted to us to understand stuff, didn't he? :p
Spoiler: Nyahahahaha
- Osaka-ben robot :keiko:

- Sigma petting a bunch of rope :p
- so the characters DO say stuff on Hard Mode (Escape sections), reading Alktolto and co., I thought they didn't say squat from the moment you start searching
- blablabla

Funny things, I've had to use a walkthrough for pretty much every single Escape section, but only for the most mundane stuff, and only once for the actual solution. An example, in the Lounge
Spoiler:
Didn't realise you had to change the order of the drinks to match the point of view of the bartender... like seriously =_=)

Or, take the Golem bay (or whatever it's called').
I had all the stuff, understood perfectly what to do to get the passwords... but I tried for like 30mn, and I simply couldn't find them. Like, even after reading the solution, I couldn't 'recreate' the passwords in game o_O

Spoiler:
Best I had was 'beacon eofpoh' o_O'

Does anyone have a diagram/picture showing how to solve that puzzle? Cause I really, really felt stupid on that one. How frustrating it was :beef:
