Not sure if you'll agree with me on this but I believe that God is in control of everything that goes on in the world. Sure things'll get really bad, but I believe that He'll always have a plan to make things better.

Awwwww! You found your soulmate here? That's sweet! Stinks you two live so far apart.

Honestly, I'm unsure if finding a soulmate online is the best thing for me. But hey, who knows what kind of fish I'll find out in the sea?

Sorry, but I believe that there's no God. You just contradicted yourself with that sentence. If God is in control of everything, that means he deliberately made all these bad things happen. Bad things happening to innocent people who never did anything wrong. There is no "plan" because it's self-contradictory. Bad things happen because of human nature and because people do horrible things. And if we have free will, that automatically contradicts any sort of plan set out by God.

Religion is a means of control and fear, and in the 21st century it's more of a business than ever. It's caused so many wars and deaths in the past thousand years. Once you remove religion from the picture, I see little reason to believe in God. I'm not saying that I know for 100%, but judging from all the evidence (or lack thereof) there's probably no God. There is not a single thought in any persons mind that should be considered absolutely true. Religious people are convinced that THEIR religion is the truth, while the hundreds of other religions that have existed are WRONG. As an atheist, I'm not claiming to have all the answers. I'm just saying that one has to think about everything logically and scientifically. Science is a far better avenue than religion. With science, we can explain how our world works and how we came to be with FACTS and not fairytales.

Anyways, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. I don't really want to start a religious debate or anything, but this is how I feel. I could go on and on in detail, but that would probably take all day. :yuusaku:

I don't see what's wrong with meeting people online. Where I live, the girls here are shallow and uncaring. I got so fed up of it all. I'm so happy that I met her, because now I know that there's someone out there who truly cares for and understands me. :godot:

I'm not going to lie and say that there's someone for everyone. There's tons of people out there who are alone for their entire lives. That's why I think the best place to meet people is on the Internet. That's where you meet people who have the same interests as you. I hope that you do find someone, though. :edgy:

I may believe in God (I'm anti religion) but I love atheist and agnostic people. I used to be agnostic myself and I wouldn't feel right if I pressed my beliefs on someone else. Besides, faith can't be forced on someone.

I don't judge people based upon their religion. I judge people based if they're a good person. That's all that matters to me. I've said it before, but I don't see any point in believing in God once you take religion itself out of the picture. It's clear to me that God, religion, and any holy text (the Bible, the Koran, etc) was made up in order to control and scare other people. It was also a way to explain how the world worked, in an age where we did not have science or technology. Now that we live in the 21st century, we CAN explain nearly everything. If we don't know something, scientists don't immediately say "God did it." We look, and we hypothesis, and we think in order to better understand the world around us.

Thanks! You seem like a great person too! At my school, there aren't that may people who think that I'm great. Most people see my hobbies and the games I play as weird or boring.

I feel much happier talking to people on the Internet, than the people that I'm surrounded by. Here, I can talk to nice people who have the same interests as me. There's no one that I know who's ever played Phoenix Wright. :yuusaku:

Religion is just another excuse for humans to kill each other. I don't support any kind of religion and I constantly make fun of them, but I force myself to respect other people's religions (if they're not trying to shove them down my throat). Because of this, people often think of me as an atheist. I'm not sure where I stand in this, but I do believe in God; though in a determinist manner. I don't believe God has a plan for people and rewards and stuff, I just believe he sets trials in your life to constantly test you and shape your character as you go on. That's kind of "my own religion", except it has no religious features at all.

That's completely true of religion. We have absolutely pointless wars and disputes just because people believe in something a little different. But I've said it before. What's the point in believing in God, if you already know that religion is false? Millions of years ago, we evolved from a common ancestor of apes and humans. Religion simply didn't exist then because we did not have the mental capacity to invent it. However, scientists have observed that later primitive humans had a sort of religion. Christianity didn't come around until thousands of years later and neither did any of the other religions. That just proves that religion is man-made, and thus God is too. The world is messed up, and life is hard; because of humans. Nothing more, nothing less. I believe the purpose of life is to set yourself a personal goal, and to fulfill that goal.

I don't believe in an afterlife either, obviously. The human mind is like a computer. When it shuts down, it's gone. There's nothing afterwards. Were were you before you were born? Your conscious simply didn't exist. When you die, the same thing happens; only you've left behind a lifeless corpse that will eventually rot away. That's why I'm going to donate my body to science when I die, so it can at least have some good use. As Stephen Hawking said, "The afterlife is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."

Even if there is a heaven and hell, why would I want to go there anyways? Hell is self-explanatory. It's a pit of fire and eternal suffering. No God would ever let anyone stay there for eternity. Hell is just a way of scaring people. Heaven is still bad. If you've ever read Paradise Lost, you'll understand that Adam and Even are more or less robots that only do God's bidding. That means that Heaven is a place were you're a puppet with no emotion, no tastes, no likes, no dislikes, etc. Just a robot that has to praise a deity for all eternity. Wouldn't that get kind of boring after 50 million years or so? Christopher Hitchens once compared Heaven to a "celestial North Korea."

True enough. As for the God stuff, I was an atheist when I was 14 and angry at everything, but then I realized I couldn't go on without believing in some sort of superior being. Maybe I needed someone to blame when things out of my control happened, maybe I was insecure, I don't know, but that's how I sat down and made up my "God theory".

Um, gentlemen. As much as I find this conversation about religion interesting...Do you guys think we could stop it here?

And maybe cut Gnobo a little slack. I know it can be offputting when a person shares their beliefs but atheists shoving their beliefs down theists throats is just as bad.

Whoever said anything about me shoving down my beliefs and forcing them onto people? I'm just putting out my opinion and the way I view things. I think that people from all beliefs should be out there and actively discussing their views. It's the only way we can avoid conflicts. Religion should not be a taboo subject. I don't understand why it is.

That's also something I hate. Religious people seem to get a free pass when they try to go around preaching their own religion, but when an atheist even says "I exist" people say we shove OUR views down people's throats.

Ok, once again, I agree.

But this topic was originally about us in real life and our internet alter egos.

(I tried Gnobo, I really did.)

Gnobo is a cool dude, he wasn't trying to push the Christian religion on all of us.

*sigh* Still, I wish the conversation didn't get that massive. But hey, everything is cool now...Don't worry, I'm not angry at you guys. I personally can't find the heart to be angry at either theists or atheists.

On the internet, I feel like I have the power to actually reach out to someone. Even though in the past I was one of the most spineless people on the internet.

In the real world, I'm quiet and shy and live half my life in a fantasy fairytale.

(How's that?)

I would ask people to start referring me as Emiko Gale in real life but it didn't work well the first time and I'm afraid my entire family is going to have a cow.

I used to be pretty nihilistic/cynical, but I outgrew it when I got a job dealing with the public. I guess I sorta adopted my customer service mask as a permanent thing.

You mean like what you did for me a few posts ago? Yeah, you're pretty awesome for that!

I'm also pretty shy and quiet in the real world, but I'm working on changing that little by little. And hopefully by college I can meet a lot of new friends and be able to be more open and friendly.

I sure hope you do too, 'cause I'm at college and have made barely a few friends, as opposed to high school when I had loads of 'em.

I wonder with my new found strength and confidence I could reach out to someone who I erased from my heart...I guess I have to think about it more.

Emiko reminded me of yet another thing I forgot to mention regarding me and the Internet:

I don't have an "Internet persona" (my Facebook, Skype, etc, have my real pic, real full name and shizzle). I act differently online because I search only for things that interest me and I have a lot of time to think and formulate my thoughts (even if I fail sometimes). In real life, though, things happen, and the side of me that is more "natural" comes through.

Hence my lazy username.

Oh, so I guess your avatar is what you really look like.

I don't know why, but you remind of Scott McClure, the guy who plays the Joker in the JokerBlogs series on YouTube.

But thanks for the fantasy, I'd love to look like him, the guy's just awesome.

Sorry to say, but I haven't watched the Office
Ok, well maybe one episode, but I didn't really watch it regularly.

Wait, so you've watched the JokerBlogs? Awesome!
Can't wait for the second season! They've already introduced the Penguin, Phantasm, Lock-up, Selina Kyle (Catwoman), Thomas Elliot (Hush), and possibly Harley Quinn!

I also feel the same way about communicating on the Internet and real life. I feel more comfortable online on places like CR cause I have more time to think about what to say, and I won't have to worry as much about saying something out of recklessness.

(And yet there are many other less cautious people, especially younger people, who just talk out of pure rage. Seriously, just read YouTube comments, or on second thought, don't.)

I agree with G on the YouTube comments, they are the bloody scum of the internet. One of the reasons I cannot stand arrogance.

And VCM...I'm sorry I made Gnoby's sig a bit too girly for him. D:

You should watch it, Gnobo! Season 1 is a bit hard to get through because they shove the plot/characters into you without explaining it too much, but after Season 2 the magic starts.

I support the theory that nothing on the entire Internet should have a comments section. That is the place for ignorance to flourish and grow. (Though I have commented on YouTube videos recently, but they're GilvaSunner's videogame soundtrack videos, so I think it's no harm)

As for the rage thing, well, on my Twitter account I basically complain about every little thing. I'm a rebel-ish kind of guy. People have already told me I'm very annoying when I complain, but as I usually say, "in the big company that is life, someone's gotta be the HR".

And Em, it's not entirely the aspect, it's probably the fact that your name is in the credits. My eyesight ain't what it used to be...

Actually, I've already watched the entire series up to the Season 2 prologue videos. I actually got through Season 1 just fine. I also like how Scott acts mostly like Heath Ledger, yet he also puts own spin on the Joker. He's incredibly sadistic like Heath's Joker, yet he puts more of a dark comedic edge to his act.

You watch GilvaSunner's soundtrack videos too? Do we watch all the same YouTube videos or something? Tell me, do you watch BrainScratchComms?

EDIT: Wait, hold on a second. Why are we suddenly talking about my sig? Did I miss something?

I like my current hipster glasses thank you very much (though I could care less about hipsters, I'm the hip-hop wannabe black kind)

And Gnobo, you sure have a good taste for YouTube videos. Though I never watched this BrainScratchComms you referred to. My list is pretty limited: TheStrawHatNO, SoulPancake, Retsupurae, GilvaSunner, NintendoCapriSun, JonLajoie and that's it.

I don't think I've seen any hipsters where I live.

I actually haven't heard of any of those guys except for GilvaSunner and NintendoCapriSun. Let's see my list is: BrainScratchComms, Exandshadow (the guy responsible for me being an Ace Attorney fan :redd: ), JonTron, PeanutButterGamer, ItsJustSomeRandomGuy, Somecallmejohnny, and many other guys.

I don't think Starbucks is hipster. :/

And Gnobo, there are plenty of hipsters on the interwebs...I have ran into the dumbest hipster comments ever.

"I have learned something over the years. Popular stuff is shit, and people who like that stuff become shit."

Me: Jesus Christ! Just because you like something that is unpopular doesn't mean you're a wiser and better human being. At least the people who like mainstream stuff are having some effing fun and not worrying what other people like you *bleep**bleep**bleep*

Me neither, but it's for the joke.

Hmmmmmm, maybe I'll check them out. I usually only watch videos when I'm going to bed.

SoulPancake is actually Rainn Wilson's (Dwight from The Office) YouTube channel, and it's very fun to watch.

I'm more quiet and tend to keep my thoughts to myself, mostly due to being more of an observer/listener and ask questions along "what ifs", what I mean by it is wondering about what would happen for instance if you place a bag or roaches in a classroom than the depressing "what ifs". Then again I do act the same and could speak more about what I think if we know each other very well regardless of talking online or not...I don't think it really counts as different...

Not too different.
I stay quiet when I don't really know people, but be more casual when I do. Casualness then turns into craziness, but not too crazy since I'll embarrass the family.
Sometimes I feel like facepalming
I'm just not sure on whose face to push my hand on.
