Though Dual Destinies is currently slated only for a digital release, Capcom’s Chris Svensson has acknowledged that the door isn’t fully closed on a physical one. Posting in the Capcom-Unity forums, Sven had this to say:

Quote:
In the days after we announced AA5 for the West being digital only, and the requests of others for a physical release, we mobilized our US team to put together possible options that may address the concerns.

As a part of that process, Eshiro-san and I have met mulitple times, including the morning where he gave the interview where he made the statement above. I was not quite ready to open the possibility to folks until we had a few more ducks in a row but Eshiro suggested he mention the potential in an an interview he was having that afternoon.

So, if you’d like to be heard, you can post on this thread (I’ll leave it open), PM me on Capcom-Unity or hit up my twitter (@chrissvensson) as many folks already have. I need some additional ammo and these requests fit that need.

If things go well and demand is there, in a few weeks I may be able to present an option that puts the ball back in the fans’ court (in “tennis” terms, not “of law” terms). I want to stress the word “may” so as to not misrepresent the situation or promise anything. We are trying. Again, timing and pricing would be at a disadvantage to the digital option as an assumption you should make.

On the AAI2 front, Eshiro is very much a man who could push make that happen so I’m glad who whoever asked that question, did so, but I’ve got nothing more I can add there. I feel the point above is valid.

Again, it’s worth stressing that this is no guarantee of a physical release, even if there’s fan demand - however, the fact that Sven has provided an official route to requesting it, as well as held ongoing discussions with Eshiro, is encouraging.

If you want to show your support on Capcom-Unity, you can do so by posting in the topic there; otherwise, hit him up on Twitter and keep spreading the word. Who knows what might happen?

I came up with an idea so i dont know if its any good so you decide whether we should do it :grey: well i was thinking we should make a petition to get capcom to port the game on IOS and android that way localization would be cheaper and we could show our support for it that maybe we could even get it ported to the 3DS :edgy:
-"what i put on my thread"

i posted a thread that also goes with this thread as stated that they should localize AAI2 for IOS and android that way the cost for localization is cheaper to make

The cost to localize would be practically the same. Only now it's throwing in porting dev costs.

It's cheaper in that there aren't physical carts to manufacture, but that's no different from the eShop potential solution.

Just made an account and supported it! Please everyone do the same! I am ok with a digital download but I would really like to have the physical copy (and hopefully some of those bonuses that Japan got with pre-order of the game!) :gant:

Apparently I've had a Capcom Unity account for 3 years. Huh. But, posted.

Really!? They're doing something like this NOW!? If they did this ages ago, we'd probably might have had a better chance with AAI2! :zenitora:

Doubt this will make a difference. They hosted a poll on Facebook for what Japanese game people want to be released internationally and Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton won by a large margin and that didn't get localized.

First that was Level 5 and second we don't know whether they localize it or not.

I have a feeling we're being rick-rolled....
If constantly pressing for something made a difference, we would have AAI2 by now, considering the pressing that's been on that for years.

Pushing for a physical version of something over digital is very different from pushing for a game to be localized at all. Plus, both Svensson and Eshiro have called the possibility of AA5's physical version up to fan demand, which is more than can be said for AAI2 at this point.

Either way, I'll give Unity a post too. I definitely would like to see continued physical versions of the series!

EDIT: Would this be US version only? Some of the comments on Capcom-Unity suggests that it would be limited to US copies of the game.

Well, I posted - and I'm about to go through the checklist of things to do to voice my support (gonna even create a Twitter account for this sole puprose). Then it's off to make a YouTube video with very simple and easy instructions to activate even the most casual of fans. :garyuu:

Sven didn't technically say anything about where said Physical release would apply...take with a grain of salt.

Man, haven't been here in a while. Hey all! :kyouya:

Already chimed in with my support on Capcom-Unity. Also spreading the word as much as I can in various social media sites. Any small chance for a physical release of AA5 is a chance worth fighting for.

Well the topic has grown 46 pages in about 15 hours, so hopefully by the time this is all finished there will be enough replies for them to consider it.

You know...for once I actually believe this. Normally it's like "If you want it, fight for it" from Capcom, which I typically chalk up as PR lies designed to placate. This time it's like "We want you to be heard", which is considerably a mor pro-consumer viewpoint. I could stand behind this movement because it actually sounds like they are listening for a change...

My worry is that this would be US only... Although the EU is a bigger market, only having the game in English means you're mainly looking at the UK (and perhaps Australia) for the bulk of your sales which is a far smaller, and therefore less attractive, market.

Still, power to the people and all that.

Actually, since the 3DS is region locked, UK/AUS people wouldn't be able to play a physical copy if it's only released in the USA.

67 pages already... I posted twice, reiterating that if a physical release does happen, asking them to please have it available somewhere other than the Capcom store. In case we have some people here who have never made a purchase from Capcom's online store before: Digital River handles their online distribution. Digital River sucks. For example: not everyone who preordered Level-5/Namco's Ni no Kuni LE got one, but somehow a Canada-based eBay scalper got dozens of copies. Riddle me this, Batman...

If preorders for a physical AA5 become available through Amazon or Gamestop, I'm in. Otherwise, I'll stick to the eShop release.

Also, I asked for AAI2 now that AA5 is in the can.

Posted in that threat twice; once just before Sven posted, then again just to be sure that my support is seen(as well as my continued support for AAI2). I'll still buy both versions just to show my support for this series.

I know, that's what I meant. That due to the smaller English speaking market there wouldn't be a physical EU release and so we'd be screwed as the US one wouldn't work. I didn't phrase it very well admittedly.

Oh god I have sudden visions of having to buy an American 3DS just for a single game.
Then I'd have 3 3DS...es.... one for each region.
That would suck.

I'd like to know something... does getting the retail release mean that the digital release will be cancelled?

If it doesn't, then I'll gladly post in that topic at Capcom Forums to show my support.

And if it does... well, I have multiple objections to that.

First, the retail version of the game is likely going to be more expensive than the eShop one. Some people are ready to spend any amounts of money on games, but sadly I'm not one of them.

And second, the retail version would be released much later than the eShop one, maybe even in 2014. It's a headache for anyone who doesn't want to spoil the game after its Japanese release. Instead of 2-3 months of waiting you get 5-6.

Also, I live in Russia and the situation with 3DS games here is pretty sad. It's almost impossible to find any 3DS games due to low customer support. That means I'd have to order the retail version from eEbay or Play-Asia and wait another 2-3 months for it to arrive. All this, instead of simply downloading the digital version on the day it's released. I am sure there are many other people in different countries who would face the same problem.

I can't imagine they would cancel the digital release, for a couple of reasons:
1. They already have the files pretty much ready to go
2. AA games have a history of getting "rare" years after release, and a full price digital release would help Capcom make some money off of that.
3. Most games released in the US have both digital and physical versions released, as there is a market for digital purchases.

So they haven't said anything about this yet, but I don't think you have to worry.

I hope you're right. The reasons make sense and I feel less worried now. Guess it's time to make an account on that forum, then...
