The title says it all. For every great game out there, for every masterpiece; there's probably a hundred god-awful pieces of programming that should ever never left the computer hard drive they were created on.

My game for today is the "masterpiece" known as Action 52. I don't even feel like telling you how bad it is. Just watch AVGN's review.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4QBeADNM34
This game is so bad, I actually dedicated weeks of my time writing a 25 page article chronicling this game, its sequels, and the infamous history behind it. But that's another story.

What are YOUR picks for worst game ever?

Hmm I've played a fair few but....

Eh I typically enjoy games...

Until further notice: Final Fantasy XIII

Though I'm sure I've played worse...they are just long in the depths of memory.

Mortal Kombat: Deception

Mein goht, it was the only fighting game we had in the sixth year common room, and I made sure we had every character unlocked. I started enjoying it, in the same way you enjoy bad movies.

I will not go at Pierre's mention of XIII...
I already spend hours on the XIII GameFAQs board, telling people complaining about the game that they are doing things wrong and not figuring things out, which makes them say this game is so bad and boring...

Blade Dancer - Lineage of Light
I mentioned it in the Reviews and Opinons thread why this game was so bad for me, so I'll give a short version. The controls were easy, but tedious and unnecessarily complicated for doing mundane things. I'm sure the forging of your own weapons is fun when you know what you're doing, which new players don't and the manual isn't helpful, the constant backtracking is annoying, the plot they throw at you at first is so boring you don't pay attention when they suddenly bring in important plot mentions...
Maybe the game is more fun once you get past the four hours I played, but I just felt like I wasted my time.

Fuck, that is one tough question

I can't say I have a favorite contender, and I can't say I know many poor games either because I've always been going for the classics and I've probably mentally blocked out any bad games from my childhood.

But when I think about it, off the top of my head, the first title that comes to mind is definitely the BeyBlade game for the Playstation. God damn. The controls were confusing and badly timed, the music was awful, the voice of the narrator got to your ears like a rusty knife and the options, game modes and stuff were down to like two or three different kinds.

That and my 6-months old stepbrother could do better in graphics than whoever made that stupid game.

When the narrator shouted "Let it rip!", I didn't realize they were talking about my ass

We've talked it out already Cat, you see a lot of the same flaws as I do but I condemn the game for them and you bizarrely don't mind them.

Besides I'm sure there's worse games.

The first one to come to mind...Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly.

Apparently the game was horribly rushed and it's riddled with game-breaking glitches, missing over half its content, and barely has a plot as a result. Even worse, the gameplay I could actually get to function properly mostly felt like a bland rehash of earlier Spyro games. It's pretty sad...Spyro on the PS1 was one of my favorite game series as a kid and you can tell this game had a lot potential. This is why "Christmas Rushing" releases is never a good idea. :edgeworth:

I also forgot to mention a mixed relationship I have with Bomberman Hero

When I was a kid I fucking loved the game, but, you know, kids are often very impressionable. Then I went for like 7 years without playing it, and my brother shows me TheStrawhatNO's Bomberman Hero LP, saying it's real funny and stuff.

And it really is, I love those guys. But the thing is, as they play through the game, they start pointing out its flaws and glitches and bad patterns and make jokes about it and celebrate when it's finally over... And me being 19 at the time, way more mature, I started seeing those things they were pointing out, and at the end of it, I'm totally agreeing. This game is stupid!

But that didn't stop me from replaying it.

Tiberian Twilight. I hated the complete abandonment of the base-building system, but the population cap is what really ruined the game for me. Of course, the almost complete abandonment of the series's storyline didn't help matters. Tiberium? Oh, we took care of that major plot point of the past three games before this game's story even began. Oh, were you hoping to learn more about Kane? We were just kidding with that bit. I refuse to include the series name, Command and Conquer, in this game's title, for it does not deserve to be treated as part of that series.

All that said, though, I kind of wish I hadn't thrown the disc out. It might have made a nice coaster.

In terms of one-off games, Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is probably one of the worst games I own, and that's because I bought it specifically because I wanted to see how bad it was. Worst (best?) $2 I've ever spent. Just read about it or look up a video, it's pretty awful.

In terms of a terrible game belonging to a big name franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3/360, more commonly referred to as Sonic '06, definitely takes the cake. A rushed, befuddled mess of awful load times, glitches and a story that actually erases itself from the timeline at the end of the game to prevent its awfulness from polluting the rest of the franchise.

I know there were quite a few I played back when I used to rent NES games as a child. One of them that comes to mind was something called Bart vs. The Universe or World or something along those lines. I remember the controls being really wonky and Bart was just hard to control.

If we're going big name franchises, I'll say the DS Zelda games. I tried them, I really wanted to like them, but they were just downright terrible. I just couldn't get into them and I hated the controls. Even the stories weren't really that compelling for me to continue.

Also, to bring controversy, I really don't like Final Fantasy 2 and 8. The only thing I liked about 2 was the overall soundtrack, but the battle system was just obscenely dumb. As for 8, I hated the battle system in that one as well. The junctioning system was just time consuming and I know people clamor on about how it's great because you can easily break the game, but I like a balanced battle system, and if I want to work and getting myself overpowered, it better not be available in the first few hours of the game and even then, spend hours in one battle just grinding up magic. Also, the stupid tutorials. All the stupid tutorials. The story was just really lackluster and the plot twists were just terrible. It's like the story was trying for something great and just vomited all over the game. I even feel the soundtrack isn't Uematsu's best. There are a few tracks that I really love, but stuff like Eyes on Me is just grating to the ears. I won't even get started on the characters. The only things I give the game credit for is that each disc ends on a good cliffhanger and it has one of my favorite intros in the PS Final Fantasys. It's just a shame that the rest of the game fails.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

I agreed with you on the flaws in XIII-2 and while I have come to realize how dumb that game is, being much too easy compared to XIII that required players to think to fight things and hence rendering the neat battle system pointless, what am I to expect from a game that has Time Travel as the main plot device?
But then, there are also other reasons I don't like XIII-2.

However, XIII-2 is not a game that I would call one of the worst I've played. It's fun to play, just as long as I don't expect to do much thinking in the battles...

It would be nice if there was a better remake for the 3DS because Diddy Kong Racing is one of the funest games ever. :(

To jump on the FF13 topic:

I don't think the game is as bad as so many people make it out to be. I personally found a lot to like about the game: the music, graphics (I'm not too concerned w/graphics, in general, but when they're nice... it's not a bad thing at all), battle system, and above-average voice-over work. But what I felt really hurt it was its pretty awful story. It's one of the more messy storylines I've encountered in some time. I spent a good chunk of the beginning confused as hell about all of the jargon that was being thrown around without much (if any) explanation. In response, some people say that reading the logs (I think this is what they're called) clears up a lot of holes in the story... but the fact that you would even need to read blocks of text points to bad story-telling. That being said, I actually enjoyed the game and bought the PS3 version 2 months ago. I had the 360 version, but I don't like the 360 so I've slowly re-purchased games also available on PS3 whenever I have the chance.

As for which game I think is rotten... Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction is the first that comes to mind for me. I got the Japanese version when I was visiting relatives and played it for a bit... and got tired of it real fast. I still have it but haven't played the game in years. I was a big fan of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game so I tried this videogame... and it was brutal.

THANK YOU! You reminded me of an awful game I played!

Yugioh: Dungeon Dice Monsters on GBA.

I was actually hoping for a standard Yugioh Card Game on the GBA when I got this...you know how parents are at Christmas with their mistakes XD and it played awfully...rolling dice to randomly see if you can get a monster or move...or attack...or well anything....I guess I just didn't have patience for Dice games then though it didn't explain itself well. Since then I actually got to play Dungeon Dice Monsters for real in the flesh and it played ok when I had the rules explained.

I wonder why people always say that all the terms are confusing in XIII, I mean it isn't any different from the terms thrown at players from other games. Previous Final Fantasies have called Summon Spirits either that, Espers, Aeons, Eidolons or similar and it never seemed to bother or confuse anyone. All the fal'Cie, l'Cie and Cie'th jargon might be a bit confusing, but only if you let it be. Simply replay the words with others that make sense. fal'Cie is a God, l'Cie are their servants and Cie'th are the zombie versions of l'Cie. Actually makes more sense in the Japanese version as they are literally called Cie'Corpses.
As for the story itself, eh, it was the typical attempt of Defying Your Fate. What I liked about XIII's ending is that, actually, they didn't defy their fate at all. Until the end, they fulfilled the focus they were given in the beginning.

Oh yeah that Dungeon Dice game... I played it a bit, didn't quite get it and couldn't understand why I got a Game Over when I couldn't... d-dimension dice on the field anymore. It let me walk on the opponents' ways, so who cares if I can still bring out a monster - a Power Monster could've simply blasted its way through all.

That wasn't the Jargon that was as confusing for me. That stuff was explained relatively well and anyone who has played several FF's knows what the deal with Espers Aeons Eidolons is (all the same thing). For me it was some of the characters and the military forces that were near-never explained outside the Codec.

When you come into a boss fight with Cid I was like "Who the hell is this guy? Why is he important? What IS the Cavalry?"

And yes you'll say read the codec for this stuff but it should be explained in game! The codec is optional stuff to flesh out a world. I think FF12's codec is wonderful! It should not be a source of information they should be telling us. All Jill Nabaat (I think that's her name?) First time I really found out who she was or even her name was when it was spoken once....at her death.

I blame the Xbox 360 version, apparently a great degree of content was cut to fit it on both platforms.

And sure the datalog is helpful in learning some stuff. Overall, eh, it's neat to read the stuff if you're interested but some of the stuff is pointless. IE the Analects you obtain by doing certain Missions, it's pointless. Isn't it just a prophecy by someone that supposedly says that everything, including Fang and Vanilla's birth, was pre-destined to work out that way?

As for the jargon of PISCOM, the ... what were they called, the Civilian Security Regiments and the Cavalry are easy. PSICOM is the elite crap. Security Regiment is like the police and stuff and Cavalry are the REBELS of the game, like how the rebels are generally the group the protagonists in FF games belong to.

Played some stinkers in my time....but there's really only one that was so bad, the memory lingers to this day. George of the Jungle on the Wii. Goddamn that game. The worst part is, the game wasn't even mine, it belonged to my brother. But like anyone would, he got stuck on the first level due to how broken it is. I offered to help, not knowing what I was getting myself into.

Punches are useless because you have to get super close to even hit anything, and when you do, you're bound to get hit yourself. But the nail that sealed the coffin was that there was no invincibility after you took a hit. So a single enemy would drain almost your entire life bar and there's nothing you could do about it.

Jumping? Forget about it. They ask you to make some of the biggest leaps I'd ever seen, and you have but a single jump. Lose a few lives and you're back to the start. Better get used to that first level, you're gonna be there a while.

The graphics were childish (not knocking it for that), but they didn't even try. There was no detail in anything, and it looked like they made the whole thing in a couple of days.

All in all, it's one of those games where it's so bad you start taking the piss out of it, just to derive some sort of pleasure from the experience. I eventually did make it to the first level boss, only to die because the game explained nothing to me. I got swarmed by enemies and given how busted the combat is, I got my arse handed to me.

Exactly! He was supposed to say "what a great launch!" and it came off as "whata gay bunch"

I never went too far in that game, about 2 or 3 days of playing I got real tired of its shit.

The Cavalry fit the Rebels archetype but they come across as more an official branch of the military that defected because their leader Cid didn't like what was going on. Though it's hell confusing and hard to explains.

Also I didn't mean the versions were different, I meant the PS3 had things cut to ensure the versions were the same. Gilgamesh was originally going to be a Fal'cie instead of simply a shop.

I really love the game Deadly Premonition, but it's so stupid. The graphics are terrible, the characters expressions are melodramatic, they move like PS1 era models, the happy soundtrack plays at the saddest or most shocking parts of the game at times, and I could go on. I think part of the reason I love it so much is how laughably bad it can be at times.

By the way, I love the Two Best Friends Playthrough of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsbfmIqP-H8&list=SP57hJfweW_2sL6BLa9gobxM975yIemM3Q&index=1

Talking of bad games they played, I didn't think much of Silent Hill: Homecoming. Which is disappointing considering I love that series. -_-

Not gonna lie to y'all in saying that I have been a victim of renting Superman 64 (thank God it was at least a rental). But in terms of owning one that award goes to Dragonball Z Sagas. Not gonna lie I had high hopes for it to be decent but the music in the game sucked, the graphics were almost N64-ish, and the controls were just so frustrating I could barely even play it.

:edgeworth:

Spoiler:
So that's what they meant at the end of the third game when they said "We'll miss you."

I've played a few bad games, but one that stands out is Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy. To put it simply, it's a generic side-scrolling beat-em-up. And a ridiculously easy one at that. As in "jump-kicking solves everything" easy. The "alchemy" in this game is limited to simply tapping the touch screen once. Of course, sometimes it would let you draw an array, but only when opening a door or something. Not to mention how the completely missed the point of Ed's fight with Greed and . . . that unskippable boulder mini-game. I nearly broke my touch screen on that one.

The worst game I've ever played has to be Ninjabread man for the wii. Godawful controls, hideous graphics, and only 4 levels! The worst part is, I gave it to my best friend as a birthday present without looking up anything about it.

If we're going big name franchises, I'll say the DS Zelda games. I tried them, I really wanted to like them, but they were just downright terrible. I just couldn't get into them and I hated the controls. Even the stories weren't really that compelling for me to continue.

I honestly think Spirit Tracks is the worst Zelda game in recent memory, but it's no way a terrible game (neither is Phantom Hourglass, which I actually liked).

Worst game I ever played? God, I don't even remember. I played some pretty bad ones for the NES when I was a kid. Though I think Bebe's Kids for the SNES has to take the cake. Seriously some of the worst controls I've ever seen on a video game.

I remember Nintendo Power rating it the worst game of all time (this was before Superman 64). When I started playing emulators, I knew I had to play it. It really IS that bad.

Indeed.
He seems to have gotten the heart of the game. Although I think the haunted house would've been easier. Oh and the fighting... yeah I am used to old Super Nintendo games that have L + Button trigger a stronger attack.

Paper Mario used to be a RPG-ish action game series. Mario faced several trials and enemies and grew stronger by each won battle, siding with partners who also grew with him. You equipped badges to strenghten yourself in your own way, be it offensive, defensive or balanced. The two first games were huge hits.

Then came Super Paper Mario, who disrupted the pace and became more action than RPG, disappointing some of the fans. The battle system changed, the partner system changed, etc. I, for one, still liked the game though, because it kept some elements from the previous games and the plot was, in fact, pretty interesting.

But I thought to myself, "OK, Nintendo. No more changes, please. Leave it as it is."

... But Nintendo didn't listen to my prayers. Out came Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

GOD DAMN THAT'S ONE AWFUL GAME. What's with the whole "sticker" theme anyway? Too stupid for me to handle. Battle system was back, but in a completely messy way. And you get no reward from the battles other than coins and one occasional sticker or another. The partnership system is GONE, and Kersti (is that her name? I can't even remember) is not only plain and easily forgettable, she's also almost useless. And why try to appeal to nostalgia by reusing the "1-1, 1-2" level system? This isn't the NES anymore.

I tried, I really did, but I couldn't finish the game. I stopped at world 5. Ridiculous.

I totally agree with you. Sticker Star was a disappointment, but I wouldn't call it awful per say. The worst part is, the game was going to be much different, but Miyamoto thought the game was too similar to thousand year door. He also told them not to make that many new characters, and to dumb down the story, as he felt that Mario games shouldn't have a story.

Sticker Star was a bad game. But still... Not the worst I've ever played. At least it was playable. Which makes it better than the worst game I posted. >_>

I can't find a post you did in this thread~?

Sims 2 Castaway PS2/PSP

It is a fun little game to play at times. But it did get boring pretty fast and some of the things were kind of dumb. In my Sims games, I turn Autonomy off I'm an evil dictator of life which lets me concentrate on preparing something for one Sim, without having to worry that the other one is off fucking around somewhere I can't find them.
Here, there is no such thing. While the player can choose how many Sims they want, I personally just picked one to make things simpler for me. But that got the Social interaction down, so my Sim had to talk to apes or smooch a pumpkin head at times.

Anyhow, downside of the game was the loading times. They were just too bad at times, even opening or closing the menu got scary to do, because the loading would happen. Overall, there isn't much to do on the island unless you want to try and do all the little "quests" you can find, but... I like that I can create my own clothes, but again, I don't know where I can get all that stuff and after a while I just want to finish the game...

I had hoped Castaway would be like the PC version, which had a 'real' storyline to it at times...
