Just today, Nintendo published their release plans for Europe. Surprisingly, Dual Destinies is listed as a physical release; noted by the lack of an asterisk which indicates digital-only. As we all know, DD was released in Japan both in stores and on the digital eShop last week. The Western localization is planned for digital distribution only with a tentative release window of "this fall," but no official date has been revealed yet.

Originally, Capcom USA's Senior VP Christian Svensson stated to the fans that they should "push for a physical release," but his apparent leave of the company may have severely affected those plans.

Is this official confirmation or simply a typo? Capcom has yet to comment on the news.

The release chart can be viewed here.

Edit: This has been confirmed by a Capcom employee to be a mistake. Dual Destinies is only eShop exclusive for now. Credit goes to AnsweringNOW for pointing this out.

Not a chance that they would get a physical copy (when they have abysmal sales compared to NA) when NA doesn't get a physical copy.

While a typo seems likely, I will say that it's something that I feel wouldn't be overlooked (it would have been caught before release). That'd have to be a pretty severe f**k-up on someone's part, so it is a distinct possibility something has changed.

Of course, the more likely answer is that it is a typo, but I'll hold out a little while longer.

Yup. Only chance of boxed version would be if Nintendo stepped-in to publish the game themselves.

And besides, there's lots of oddities in that list, so I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
Maybe Capcom will have a surprise when they reveal the release date, but I seriously doubt it.

Given the complete lack of announcements regarding the eventual release, this COULD be an indicator that something's happening; it would be easy enough for Capcom to announce any change of plans regarding a physical release alongside their reveal of the release date. Considering the support shown here, the CLEAR evidence showing the people's preference to visit a store for games rather then the eShop AND the likelihood that Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney will be physical as well (given Level 5's history, I highly doubt they'd try to pull a Capcom and make the game digital only) I wouldn't be all that surprised if Capcom released a physical run, however limited it may turn out to be. :sassy:

Of course, given some ill-advised business decisions in the past (No Ace Attorney Investigations 2 localization? No Mega Man Legends 3 development?) I shan't be holding my breath that this will come to pass, especially considering that it is just as likely that this is merely a typo. Still, even the possibility of it being raised- and within an official company release, no less- is encouraging :odoroki:

Also, considering that i do not see Dual Destinies listed in "The Americas" section of the Third Party 3DS releases, something is up with that. I mean, quite weird...

I wouldn't be surprised if this "physical release in Europe" is just a simple error.

And jsut to clarify, are the European versions of the game have the dialogue in their respective language (not counting the dialogue in the anime scenes) or are they all in English such as AAI?

Well, I should have guessed so. Either way, I'm still thinking this is just a simple error.

Sorry about the double post but here's a link regarding the issue: http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/ ... -a-mistake

Mikeeb, who is a Capcom employee judging by his profile, says that AA:DD is still an eShop exclusive for the time being. No news regarding a physical release.

Basically, it's an error.

Question regarding digital only release

I'm sorry if this is OffTopic, but I didn't know where else to put it.
I don't have a 3DS (yet), so I'm not familiar with its features (like the eShop), but since I have been considering buying Dual Destinies when it comes out, and since it will probably not get a physical release, I looked up how the whole digital purchase thing works, and I'm both confused and mildly angry about what I found. Could someone please clarify for me?

Bolded text is quoted from Wikipedia.
The Nintendo eShop icon appears as part of the HOME Menu on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS and requires a wireless internet connection to access.
My internet isn't wireless, it comes from and is connected to a modem. Does this mean I won't be able to buy the game from the eShop?
If so, that's a real jerk move in my opinion - to make the game digital release only, and then make it unavailable for people like me. I would have to buy a 3DS specifically to play this one game, which is already expensive. I can't buy a new computer/change to a new and more expensive internet provider just to be able to buy it on top of the other costs. There is only so much money I can cringinly shell out for a single game.

Accounts can be funded using either credit cards or prepaid cards purchased in stores.
Since I don't have a credit card: What kind of stores can I buy these prepaid cards at? Any electronic store? Only specialized game stores?

Also, let's assume that somehow there is a way for me to buy the game from the eStore. Would I then have it safe on my 3DS, or would I still need internet connection to play it?

I'm just really frustrated right now because it's so expensive in the first place (due to the required 3DS), and now that I almost got over the financial aspect, I have to wonder if I'll even be able to buy the game at all.
I wish we could get a physical copy, even if it came out a bit later. It just seems so much easier to just buy a game on amazon or wherever.

1) You don't have to change Internet providers to get a wireless connection in your house, you just need a wireless router. You can get a basic one really cheap online, and I'm sure you could find cheap models at stores too. Alternatively, you could go to a Starbucks, McDonald's, or Best Buy (and many other places) for free Wi-Fi. Many of those places also have something called Nintendo Zone, which allows you to automatically get Internet access, plus some bonus things through the Nintendo Zone software.

Wireless is required for Internet because the connector for Ethernet is pretty huge and wouldn't fit in your 3DS, and making a proprietary dongle to get around that would have very little use considering the 3DS is a portable system.

2) Walmart, Target, and Best Buy carry prepaid cards. I'd expect GameStop would have them too.

3) Once a game is downloaded, you don't need to check in to the Internet to play it. You may want to connect to the Internet again for DLC (like the orca case) if you're interested, but otherwise you can play the game unrestricted offline.

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, I still don't know if I'll be able to buy the game...

1) I don't have a notebook. If I got a router for wireless, I don't know if my computer would run with it. I got the modem and connecting wire directly from my internet provider and my computer is made out of parts of other computers (a friend of mine put it together). I know nothing about computers, so sorry if I sound stupid. :/

2) We don't have Walmart, Target or Best Buy. But I can check if we have a Gamestop.
Ah, it's all so complicated.

Wireless routers often have physical connections too. What you'd do is connect the modem to the router (in the Internet port if it has one), connect your desktop to one of the physical connections, and then you can get to it via wireless with your 3DS. You should read the manual for specific set-up instructions, which are often not too hard.

EDIT: I just noticed that you're from Germany. See if there's a shop on this list near you.

EDIT2: Actually, this may be more relevant.

Your location below your avatar says your location is Germany, so I'm going to assume you are currently living in Germany.

Regarding #1, if you're not a computer person I wouldn't recommend spending the money on a router for your home. My suggestion would be to ask around your town and try to find a cafe, coffee shop, or fast food joint that has free wifi. In the US, fast food places like McDonald's as well as places like Starbucks have complimentary free wifi for their costumers. So you could go grab a burger or a coffee and while you dine just pull out your 3DS, connect to the store's wifi, and download DD. The Japanese version is only around 500 mb, so it shouldn't take very long; maybe between 7 to 30 minutes.

Regarding #2, those are the common places to buy the cards in America, but I'm sure there are German stores which sell them. Walmart and Target are general department stores, Gamestop is a gaming-oriented store and Best Buy is a technology-oriented store. Pretty much any place where they have 3DSs to buy will most likely have the download cards as well.

One last thing. If you're thinking AA is the only reason why you'll be getting a 3DS, and you don't want to spend a ton of money, you might want to consider buying a used 3DS if you can, since that might bring down the price a bit.

EDIT: Oops, looks like Blahmoomoo beat me to it! :edgy:
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

You don't need a computer, you only need access to a W-Lan. Either go to a friend's house, or go to public places that offer free W-Lan. Or you might buy a W-Lan router yourself, they're cheap.

You can buy them online: http://www.mspoints.de/nintendo-eshop-c ... p-146.html
They send you the code via email.

Thank you all for your help! I think I'll ask at the McDonald's if they have wireless lan available, and if not, I'll ask the friend who built my computer if he can borrow me a router.

Lusankya, thank you so much for that link! Because according to the search machine, the next shop selling the cards is in another town. O.o

As to the 3DS, if I am going to buy one, it will absolutely be a used one, but even those rarely go for less than 115 Euro.
I hope it all works out, but I feel a lot more confident now. Thanks again.

At least remember to secure your wifi if you decide to buy a hotspot yourself. It is nothing more than setting a password and picking an option other than Worst Encryption Possible.
