I just had to post to comment on how excellent this is! I'm quite a ways into Case 2 and apart from a couple small typos (which I didn't note down, sorry), I doubt I'd have ever been able to tell the difference between this and an official localization. Thanks a ton to everyone involved!

(And what perfect timing, too! I was starting to get really impatient waiting for Dual Destinies, so I needed this AA fix. :will: )

Thank you so much for this patch! You guys did a great job!

By the way, the voice command is working for me (I tried to yell "Take That" during an investigation and everything went well). Is it only not working during cross-examinations?

Okay so I just finished the cases and it was awesome! Somehow, I even hope there won't be an official translation anymore because then the characters would have other names and stuff :D

And I noticed some typos:

Spoiler: Images
Image

It has to be "must have hidden", if I'm not mistaken. English is not my native language but I checked and the past participle of hid is hidden...
I think this scene appears when you press Sebastian somewhere in his second testimony.
Image

"Come to think of it."

Also, at one point in the first case, DeKiller says something like "If we didn't [...] then we would not have somethinged". While people use this sentence structure in colloquial speech, I don't believe DeKiller would talk like this but rather talk properly and use "If we hadn't". I don't remember where I encountered this scene though but I believe DeKiller said something about the plane.

Alright, So for someone who is a compleete noob to this stuff, where is the best place to get a ROM? Do I need a program like Windows RAR to download it?

The only legal method of acquiring it is dumping a copy of the physical game using homebrew. If you don't have access to that, you'll have to find a ROM off-site; C-R doesn't condone sharing ROMs here.

Homebrew? Isn't that a Wii thing? It works with DS?

Homebrew is a general term for running user-made software on closed platforms like game consoles. In the case of Nintendo's consoles, it's most easily done on the Wii, but it's also possible on the DS (though it requires a flashcart - a specially-made DS cart that can load software off of a MicroSD card.)

I have a copy of Gyakuten Kenji 2 I purchased and imported from Japan. Is there an easy way to "dump" the rom from my copy of the game?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I wouldn't call it easy, but you can look here to see your options. You need a flash cart for any case.

Hmm. Yeah I think I'll just use my computer rather than do all of that.

Out of the two options (Xdelta and BEAT) is there a specific one someone recommends?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't really make a difference, but I personally used xdelta.

xdelta is much easier to use. I dont know if people forget if they using it for emulator or i dont know if this works for R4, but dont forget to put ".nds" at the end for the file type.

Just make sure you get the UI version. I tried the original on another patch for an unrelated game and it never worked for me. UI did the trick instantly.
All you do is specify the sourse ROM (the clean one, make sure its NOT the one with anti-piracy removed), the patch and you can even give a specific name to the output file.
It's also great because it doesn't overwrite the cleam ROM by default like a lot of patch-appliers do. You should always keep at least one copy of the clean ROM for saftey reasons.

If you get an error message, it probably means your ROM has the anti-piracy patch. At least that was the case for me.

On another note: great to see our patch getting the recognition it is. Nothing makes me happier than knowing fellow AA fans who couldn't play this game before now can.
Just a note: do you guys mind if I put together a quick trailer for Youtube? Just to let word reach more people. It's okay if you're worried about drawing unwanted legal attention though. (Though I doubt that'll ever happen)
Something something please localize DGS.

To clarify, people: don't make posts like "PM me for the ROM!" Openly promoting piracy of the series is frowned upon, and there are plenty of places other than C-R that can help you with that avenue.

Thank you very much for providing a translation to all the Ace Attorney fans out of japan :)

However, I do have a problem: This is my first time trying to patch a game, so I have ABSOLUTELY no clue about what do I need to do in order to patch it.
- Running Windows 7
- Downloaded both programs (Yet, I can't find any compatible files inside the archives that were provided in the first page )
- Downloaded the ''Patch'' archive provided in page two, but I still can't figure what to do!

If someone would be so kind to explain to this noob and direct her about what to do, I would really be thankful!

The patches are at the bottom of the first post. Download one of the patch archives, extract the patch from the archive, and use the appropriate patcher program to do the patching.

I have started this and its brilliant and I can't believe that they haven't localised it.

Also credit to the translation team as you have done a top job :phoenix:

Same here, actually. I managed to get it going, with only a handful of snags, though I have a really good idea of where things can go wrong (I can't believe how useful learning to work around an infected computer turned out to be :beef: ).

First off, did you already get the emulator and the ROM? C-R doesn't post those, and I don't feel like getting Snackoo'd and worse for linking you to it :nick-sweat: For the record, No$GBA didn't work for me; I had to use DeSmuMe (though it seems Cat has a workaround...?). Second, did you unzip all the files? So far, a friend of mine's been having the same issues, but when I asked some hours ago admitted she hadn't unzipped anything yet; she didn't have the software for it. If you've already taken care of those, sorry, but I had to check for the little things first :minuki:
So I finally grew a brain and remembered to give myself a signature... Whoopee.

Gyakuten Kenji 2 has a built in anti-piracy measure. If the game detects that it's being played on a flashcart/emulator, the game takes all of the Japanese text and turns it into Borginian. So it's not part of the translation patch.

Can I have some help? I downloaded both patching formats and the patches for each, but I can't seem to get it to work. The patching software makes me use 7zip to open the archive in order to actually do anything, and no matter what I do, I get an error. Help?

Looks like Auryn uploaded a new version with an updated readme (without saying anything...). The patch is identical. Here are the new links I copied over from the other forums, and I highly suggest updating the OP with these.

Accidentally posted this in the wrong thread earlier. *facepalm*

Spoiler: Typo I noticed, Case 2 major spoilers
During Roland's final breakdown with the automatically scrolling text, there's a moment where I think she's talking about Dogen and says "had he" while it should be "he had." Pretty minor, but it stood out since it was during such an important scene.

Just finished Case 2, and like I said earlier, aside from a few minor typos you all did an amazing job and the translation and localization are top-notch. Thank you to everyone involved and I'm now impatiently awaiting the rest of the cases!

Although the "hidden it" is the correct grammar, it doesn't sound out of place, as I've heard "hid it" used by people as well, so I would've payed no mind to that! (Nice pick up though!)

Joined up to C-R to express my happiness and gratitude for this patch! I thought I'd never get to play this game, and now I can, and its wonderful! Just like playing an official translation. It works absolutely fine on my R4DS (with the latest WoodR4 update). I finished Case 1 last night, and am looking forward to starting Case 2 today!

The only possible bugs I noticed so far were:
- that it sort of locked on to the red-dot point in Kay's image of the President when you had to deduct it, and even if you presented the wrong evidence (which i did) it stayed locked onto that spot (admittedly its the correct place) and you had to present evidence again, you couldn't select another place in the picture first.
When Nicole Swift's sprite gets flipped so she's on the other side of the screen (in the plane scene), the text on her parka gets mirrored too so you cant read it.

I was wondering also if when the full patch comes around i'll be able to continue from where i left off using the save file from this partial patch, instead of having to play through cases 1 and 2 again on the full patch?

Safest place to save is when game asks you to save at end of chapter or episode. Do not use savestates.

I've been watching dowolf's "Let's translate" of GK2 and I wish I would've waited so I can play this...

Anyway, if I have a 3ds, can I just throw the patched rom onto an sd card and play it from there? Because the issue that I don't have a flash cart arises...

So, I've been getting pumped for this and listening to the OST over and over again. My mom likes it now... :meekins:

Nope, you can't play ROMs off of the SD card slot. At least, nobody's figured out how to do something like that with a 3DS yet, unlike with the PSP. You'll need a flashcart if you want to play the game on the hardware.
