Dual Destinies pretty much hit sales targets

Congratulations everyone. According to IGN, Dual Destinies pretty much hit sales targets. This was released in new sales figures by Capcom that was reported on.
This is great because it gives new hope for future games and that the game managed to reach the target in a week.
On an unrelated note Resident Evil 5 became Capcom's best selling game.

But they said AAI3 is next, didn't they? Are sales really going to help there? I'd think the fact that AAI2 wasn't localized would more or less kill its chances, regardless of how well AA5 performed.

Well to be fair they did say good sales could help localization chances.

I think this is very good news. The game has only been out for a week, and it's going to continue getting purchased as word of mouth continues and as hype for Layton Vs PW:AA builds. I'm officially changing my prediction of us getting GS6 from "not likely to get it" to "likely to get it".
It probably means that all future games will be digital only, as the sales are there, but I'm fine with it if it means more games coming over.
As for AAI3, keeping in mind the fact that they said they want to set it around GS5 and the fact that they are aware of American fans not getting GK2, I think it's looking good for us as well.

Still, I personally hope they change their mind and make GS6 first. (or have two teams working on both games at the same time. Maybe they could have Takumi come back for GS6 or something). Honestly, I think they've done really all they can with Edgeworth, Kay and Gumshoe. If they are going to make GK3, I'd rather them have another prosecutor take the leading role and have Edgeworth and Kay show up as side characters. I'm much more interested in GS6.

If there's anything as an indicator of sales in the West, Dual Destinies is #1 in the recent releases on the eShop charts.
That is still very good, and to be honest that's exceeded my expectations, especially since Pokemon is out. But 1) Other than Pokemon I don't know of any other "big" games like DD on the eShop right now, 2) Most people who bought Pokemon probably bought the cartridge, so being the best in eshop sales is relative, and 3) What really matters is if it met Capcom's sales expectations or not. If they expected it to do worse than it is, then it's great, but they might have somehow had the idea that it would have done a lot better, so it still might be bad for GS6.
Still, it could have been far worse. DD being very popular is a good sign.
I wonder, if we could figure out how many copies Pokemon sold digitally, that would give us an idea of "well, dual destinies has sold more than [INSERT #] copies". I'll try to find that out.

EDIT: Yep, I think I dreamed that up somehow. Well I'd prefer AA5 NOT be the last AA game XD I just was almost sure I remember seeing it somewhere. Maybe it was going to be the last one if it didn't sell well?

What it was was based on the hints that Capcom gave us during DD's development, DD was only localized due to the eShop exclusive status and because of "aggressive" sales predictions.
Basically, the idea was that this game had to sell really well in the west or else it would probably the last AA game localized. There will no doubt be more AA games in Japan, but at this moment we still don't know if DD did well enough in the west to justify them bringing those future games to the west. That's why when everyone read this article and thought they were talking about western sales, everyone was really happy, because it would have meant that DD reached it's sales predictions in just a week, which would have been very good news for the future of AA in the west.

If DD does well, Capcom will likely release GK3 due to a couple of reasons:
1. AA is popular again (once again, assuming it does well), so GK would in theory sell well as well.
2. The Developers have already given hints that GK3 would not be related to GK2's plot at all, meaning it could be localized without any troubles.
3. It's a new, 3DS game which they can sell for 30 bucks or so. Probably the reason why we won't get GK2 even if GS5 sells well is because it would be basically DSiWare and wouldn't have all of the features that are standard in a 3DS game, so it's not as "new" or "exciting" as new entries to the series are.

I had hoped for GK3 to take place before Phoenix's disbarment as well as involving both him and Maya, but I also hoped to learn about the whereabouts of AAI/GK2 characters in DD era, mostly Kay (who I don't care that much about, actually, but... even if I don't like it, she was important of the story) Yumihiko and perhaps Lang, Mikagami and even Tateyuki, who would never be mentioned in the main series...
