Speaking of romance in Zelda, I had read up on Ocarina of Time's development years ago that when the game was first being developed, they originally wanted to put in something akin to a dating sim within the game as like a sidequest or something. It was scrapped early on, but it explains the presence of girls around Link's age aside from Zelda, such as Ruto, Malon, and Saria. I thought it was hilarious, but it's something I'm glad they didn't go through with. I've got to say from a developmental standpoint, Ocarina of Time is definitely one of the most interesting games in terms of all the ideas they originally had for it.

Let me just say I would totally play a LoZ dating sim.

Totally.

Just as long as it gives me the option of dating Ghirahim. He'd be, like, the only one I'd ever date as Link. Well, maybe the Item Check Girl.

Check out Etsy.com; they've got a couple sellers that can make you one :trucy: It's not going to be cheap- the prices ranged from $75-$85 last time I checked- but if it's worth the investment for you, it's available there. :jake:

Now on the topic of A Legend of Zelda dating sim... there are actually a few girls established in the universe that people would date :trucy: Zelda, Malon, Ruto, Saria, Medli, Tetra, Midna, Shop Check Girl... there are quite a few lovely female characters that I'm sure people would love romancing. That said, it depends on whether or not this dating sim would be STRICTLY a dating sim, or an adventure game with dating on the side (a la Persona 3/4). If this were a thing, I'd prefer the latter, but what about you guys? Which would you want to play more?

GG: Pure sim personally, but if the sim wasn't a sidequest or something, it'd probably have zero chance of being localized (yeah, yeah, as if Nintendo would ever put a dating sim in one of their games in the first place.)

Ditto :sadshoe: So... let's move the conversation back to other Zelda talk, if only to ensure it doesn't devolve into something... weird :jake:

In regards to the future there are 2 upcoming games in the Zelda series that will be anounced soon; Mr. Anouma mentioned that they'll be showing off Zelda Wii U at the next E3 (I don't remember the specific source, but I could probably find it if someone needed evidence, and then of course there's Majora's Mask 3D. While the latter hasn't been quite confirmed as of yet, the inclusion of a Majora's Mask soundtrack in last year's Club Nintendo Platinum Awards, a Majora's Mask hanging off the wall of Link's house in the newest Zelda title and the fact that Nintendo's been hinting at it and teasing fans about it for the past year or so, I feel like there's a high probability of it eventually being released, even if we don't know when :ron:

Personally, I'm looking forward to both; the newest Zelda will probably be AMAZING, and as a big fan of Majora's Mask, I'm really excited about the idea of a potential remake :trucy: You guys thoughts?

I am looking forward to the Zelda WiiU title. I hope it has the motion controls from Skyward and a kickass villain! Also, maybe my memory is off, but this one WiiU trailer or promo we saw once seemed to show Link with a fairy...? I... I am not very fond of the fairy ones, thanks to Navi and Tatl... both annoyed me after a while.

It was just a tech demo to show off the graphics, like how they had a "realistic" Link and Ganondorf fight to show off the Gamecube graphics, thus everyone getting upset when Wind Waker came out. I really wouldn't think too much about it.

Tatl was MUCH more tolerable and her character was far more compelling. At least she wasn't screaming HEY!!!, LISTEN!!! all the time. I consider Tatl's dingalingaling quite cute.

Also agreed :phoenix: Her character was more definable and enjoyable then Navi's, and she actually has some development within the story; she starts off as Skull Kid's ally, then becomes a reluctant ally of Link's, then later goes on to truly side with him once she sees the atrocities Skull Kid (under the possession of Majora) has committed, and then finally begins to like and respect him. Seeing her developing relationship with link was kind of nice and made her an enjoyable sidekick; she wasn't the BEST, and her blunt farewell to Link felt a bit... standoffish, but she was otherwise an enjoyable partner. Plus, her dingaling was actually nice to listen to and not an obnoxious cry for attention like Navi's :phoenix:

And too bad about your 3DS by the way, I can sympathize pal :sadshoe: Same thing happened to my Game Boy Advance SP when I was just a tot, and it was frusturating; the Mega Man Zero, Battle Network, and Metroid series were all so FRUSTURATING to play with shoulder triggers that simply didn't want to work for me when I wanted them too (sometimes they worked, other times they didn't) :ron: Hopefully you can get your situation taken care of one way or the other: Ocarina of Time 3D is great and definitely worth the playthrough :trucy:

I never get why someone found the bicycle bell better than Hey! Listen! ... then again, maybe it's because my main memory of that bicycle bell appearing is "Look! What's that? Press Z to target it!" and that annoying scene when you first approach the Swamp area's exit and that damn annoying long scene of I don't care how you met the damn skullkid, SHUT UP, TATL!!

Then again, maybe I just don't like the type of sidekick who isn't very pretty to look at. I know people say Fi reliterates what is being said to you every few minutes, but that never bothered me with her. She was pretty, I loved her design, her voice was much more nice. AND I could ignore her if I wanted to. And she ignored me, if I just went off to do some component collecting and didn't yell at me every 10 minutes "Hey! There's an arctic wind blowing from Zora's domain" - Shut up, Navi!

They've been hinting at it for at least a year or so, what between Club Nintendo Rewards (Majora's Mask Soundtrack was a Platinum Award), an in-game cameo in 'Link Between Worlds' and the fact Anouma (the producer of the Zelda series) hints at it in pretty much EVERY INTERVIEW HE'S IN. Personally I think it's coming; my GUESS is that it'll be announced through Nintendo Direct that it's coming out Summer-Fall of this year as it's been almost 3 years since OoT 3D and that's roughly the development cycle of most games (and less then it took to make Majora's Mask for the N64 :trucy: ). Buuuuuut... I'm not Nintendo, so of course there's no telling for certain :ron:

I can understand that; Navi was annoying, Tatl was good (in my opinion) but wasn't a particularly memorably sidekick, and neither were particularly visually appealling. I can see why you'd prefer the likes of Fi, Midna, The King of Red Lions compared to the two, as they were each nicer to look at and offered more to the player then simply Z-Targeting. :trucy:

The King of Red Lions? He's so bland and inobtrusive, I barely even remember that he's in the damn game... then again, if I had to pick my worst sidekick out of the Zelda games I've played, it would definitely be Ezlo or whatever that stupid hat's name was in Minish Cap. I noticed the hints in "Link Between Worlds" especially the most obvious one in the house. I really do hope that you are right that they will make a announcement during the next Nintendo Direct.

I still hate Navi to this day with her constant yelling through the entire game. I disagree with Cat and I always liked the King of Red Lions and felt he was a memorable sidekick. I will say that Navi's annoying personality doesn't even compare to how annoying and horrible Fi was in Skyward Sword. I personally think Midna was by far the best sidekick.

Favorite sidekicks in Zelda

#1. Midna (Her personality and usefulness is awesome! She was the best and most developed character in the game. Her reasons for doing what she did were understandable. And her theme is awesome, kinda like a waltz but with haunting undertones. In wolf form she helps you fight...ACTUALLY helps you fight!)
#2. Zelda (In Spirit Tracks Zelda actually becomes your sidekick...and my god is it awesome! She's like Al from Fullmetal Alchemist! Only a girl and adorable! Her helpfulness is awesome and lets face it, she's freaking ZELDA!)
#3. Fi (I never had a problem with her...mostly cause I'm a good player and rarely had my health in the red, and changed my Wiimote batteries before every playthrough. Her theme is beautiful, her dancing is beautiful, and her singing is beautiful. She's just really pretty to me. Also she's the FREAKING MASTER SWORD! I always cry when you have to say goodbye to her...)
#4. Ciela and Linebeck (I'm counting them both cause honestly I don't think I could like Ciela as much without Linebeck and Linebeck while not your "partner" does accompany you for a majority of your voyage. These two are like a married couple, they're always bickering at each other. They always manage to crack me up! Linebeck himself is one of my favorite characters in the series on his own. His theme is really catchy and is so over the top grand sounding, whenever he would have his random mood change from cowardly to over the top brave I would always laugh my ass off. He's like the Usopp of the Zelda franchise...only with Nami's love for money. Ciela is a sweet little one who, if you get all courage gems, can help you shoot laser beams! And that's always fun!)
#5. King of Red Lions (He only ever bothers you for REALLY important things. He takes you everywhere you need to go, and his last words in the game, like Fi, always made me cry.)
#6. Tatl (Again I never had a problem with her. And I found her bell sound cute. I like a gal with spunk!)

King of red lions is actually my second favorite party member.

How is he a party member if he never actually does anything helpful outside of a cutscene or two? He's a sidekick. A party member is someone you can control, like Zelda in Spirit Tracks...

Umm you just contradicted yourself right there because technically you do actually control him to sail the seas.

Well... I guess without him, you'd be stuck on Windfall for the rest of the whole game. Technically from a game standpoint, he's as useful as Fi since you use him pretty much all the time. I'd say he's pretty useful since you do control him out in the ocean.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

That and the Anouki's...in design alone...Their personalities are kinda mean. They're like a bunch of angry Canadians!

Yeah I'm gonna chip in and say give the guy some credit. Without him the quest would've ended before it begun.

That doesn't make him a party member. It makes him nothing more than a tool.
With control, I meant like Zelda, where you require her to get past puzzles. You don't use the king like that.

I kinda feel at times that it should have. Especially the way Ganondorf, towards the end of the game is all, "YOUR GODS HAVE BETRAYED YOU (by flooding Hyrule)!!" like it's that much of a surprise. What? Hyrule was flooded? A shit, I would never have guessed from the intro telling me that the gods had flooded Hyrule! And I stand by it, Waker sucks as a supposed sequel to Ocarina. It just brings up more questions than it answers.

No it doesn't. The gods flooded Hyrule to rid it of evil. then sealed it in time so the evil (and ganon's true power) could never be used. The people took shelter on the mountain tops that soon became islands so no harm no foul. Sure a land was lost but the people LIVED.
And considering how things looked in this picture

and this picture

I'm thinking flooding was probably a better fate. I mean those are DEAD BODIES and BURNING HOUSES! Seriously, their homes where just gonna be taken away anyways.

Still. Ganny telling me that the Gods flooded Hyrule is not that much of a shock to me as he (and the developers) may think. Also, tons of questions about Wind Waker... the main one being, why are Zora pretty much died out when the world is water? Yeah, difference between fresh- and saltwater, but I'd think evolving to survive in the other water type would be easier than evolving into BIRDS.

Cat until you tell me that ANYTHING is a shock to you I'm not sure your opinion on plot twists is going to be valid because we have nothing to gauge what is a good plot twist for you on.

That said the game is fine and fun, I was never looking at it as a sequel to Ocarina and I don't expect big plot twists in a Zelda game, I'll look for those in visual novels and RPGs. It's got a nice sense of adventure and plenty of fun little things to do that's what I was looking for in a Zelda game.

Quite honestly...? Can't think of any game that I've played recently that had a plot twist in it that genuinly surprised me or that I didn't predict. I think the only plot twist sort of thing I had recently was reading Half Prince - and the actual plot twists were made obvious. Like who Lan was going to marry, it was obvious. The Dictator of Life being in love with Prince actually got its own chapter to reveal it before it was revealed to Prince... the only twist was that Lan made her husband go through M!Preg cause she can't handle the pain of the birth... in 2100 AD, when medicine is so advanced it can have men be pregnant, but not have epidurals that we have in our time... and that wasn't a good twist, that was a twist to a knife in my back to add some "humor" to the end of the series.
But in Wind Waker, it really wasn't a twist, because it was revealed in the intro. Which was unskippable.

You mean....this intro cutscene? The one where it says "What became of that Kingdom? None remain who know..." rather ominously.

Doesn't reveal it in the intro, it still counts as a plot twist. Just because you, who have said yourself isn't impressed by many plot twists, say it's a bad plot twist doesn't mean it is. Seems more to me that you are just difficult to impress with plot twists.

Well guess what, dear Players, Zelda games are not about the story. They aren't RPG games, they are Action Adventure games, the type of games where a story is generally there as an overall outline of something. Something you're not supposed to pay much attention to because you're constantly doing actions and having an adventure.

You used "story doesn't matter" as a defense for Skyward Sword, but shot Wind Waker down for story-related reasons?
