Yeah I always joke to my friends that someone at Nintendo is just rolling dice with franchises on each side to make these random crossovers.

Phoenix Wright X Professor Layton
SMT X Fire Emblem
Dynasty Warriors X Zelda

It's just fun to see a company do something so out there.

Don't forget Pokemon X Nobunaga's ambition.

Totally forgot that one but yeah it's equally baffling. :kristoph:

It should be noted that Nintendo had nothing to do with Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright's creation, that was Level-5 and Capcom. All Nintendo did for them is publish the game in PAL regions when the two companies decided to release it outside of Japan. You're right about the other two, though.

Good to see I'm not the only one who remembers that game, known also as Pokémon Conquest. Not a lot of people seem to know it came out overseas, let alone that it even exists.

I wouldn't know since I haven't played Harvest Moon:P. From what I saw it could be crossovered

I haven't played Animal Crossing, but from the LPs I've watched, it's basically just real-time doing nothing but talking to virtual people and digging some stuff up. No real farming, no actual dating in it... and I personally don't like the real time stuff.

I tend to get hyped for a game and once that phase is over, it can take months before I play something again... and I would not look forward to someone bitching at me like they're having a PMS just cause I didn't do anything for a while... :ron:

Animal Crossing is a very different experience to Harvest Moon. It's something of a life simulator with a coat of animal-themed paint, where the goal is to pay off your home so you can decorate the inside with furniture and show off your pad to your friends. There's a lot more to it, like fishing, finding fossils and making your own custom clothing and trading it all with other players, but paying off your home until you have the biggest model is the main point of it all. It doesn't need to deal with romance or crops because that would just distract from the focus of the game as is.

In short, it's not really like Harvest Moon at all outside of the very basic concept of being a simulation. I suppose combining the franchises wouldn't be impossible, but it would probably detract more from both than it would benefit them.

Yeah, uh... the animal theme doesn't really interest me much. Fishing and finding fossils isn't, either. I mean, I do it in Rune Factory or Harvest Moon, mostly cause I am either trying to complete the shipping list or give a certain fish as a present to someone, but it's not one of my more fun activities. And I can simply make my own clothing patterns and such in Harvest Moon New Beginning... So yeah. Animal Crossing at first sounded fun when I heard about it, but when I dug a little deeper, it really sounds like the type of game I'd get bored of pretty fast... part of the fun for me in Harvest Moon was the fact that I could romance someone. *shrug*

This doesn't really do Animal Crossing justice in my opinion. It's hard to put it in words, but it's a game with a lot of charm to it. There isn't really a need to progress in the game (it's possible though) so you can basically do what you want when you want without any consequences. It's a carefree game and great if you're looking for a game to play 30 minutes to 1 hour a day, since daily new events and text become available because this game runs on real-time.
Harvest Moon on the other hand is pretty brutal (as the life of a farmer can be). You're required to study up in the game's mechanics and become efficient at mastering them, or else you won't make any progress. No progress means no rewards in that game and it can even mean you'll lose your opportunity to romance your partner, since they can be snatched away. On the other side, when you get efficient you'll reap more concrete rewards. Your farm expands, earning money becomes easier and you should be able to marry your favorite partner and get a child. Also since this game isn't based on real time you'll be able to play for longer sessions.

Both games are very enjoyable in my opinion, but mixing the 2 shouldn't be done. Although the art styles are kinda similar the concept of both games are too different. You could have a Animal Crossing game with Harvest Moon elements in it and vice versa, but a AC x HM game sounds like a bad idea.

Not really, as some of the games don't have any rivals for the bachelorettes - like Magical Melody, so they can't be snatched away. And even then, the games where there are rivals that can marry the girls, the time limit is still so large at times that you actively have to try to make it that far - like, I have to point out Rune Factory 2, or Friends of Mineral Town/DS/DS Cute where the final Heart Event that you have to see to have the Rival Couple marry takes place in the 4th Year of the game.

And as you say, AC is the type where you can do whatever you want, you don't have any real consequences going on, it even seems to take quite some time to actually get one of the people living in your town to dislike you. Which I guess is one thing that just doesn't appeal to me: where's the reward? Nothing I do really nets me anything great, I do stuff and nothing really happens that makes me feel, "Yeah I made that happen".

The first harvest moon was the best harvest moon.
Every Harvest moon after it has just added cheap gimmicks that didn't even really do anything to the game.
The GBA ones were pretty fun, and I just got the 3DS version recently so I can't judge it.

buuuuuut the GC one sucked, the PSP one sucked (there was one on the psp right?)

Good lord how I hated the GC one

I played a bit of Rune Factory, I remember it being a little too hard to get into, I already had a "serious" game to play at the time, I just wanted a game to play to relaaaaaaaax.
....... I still kinda have a crush on the preistess chick from the first game, no matter how many times I replay the game I always marry her.

Which GC one are you talking about? There were two - technically three, but one was just the female version of the other one. A Wonderful Life was okay, it was very, very slow at times, but I liked how the focus was more on your son (and they were so cute as toddlers~) and the graphics were nice. Thankfully, the female version lowered all the Chapters to take just one year, which cut down on the slowness of the game.
But I think Magical Melody was awesome. The graphics were sweet, very different from AWL, but it fit. And I loved seeing the Super Nintendo girls in 3D model. Loved the choice of bachelorettes and bachelors, the farming system, the controls... the one thing I didn't like was that items didn't stack...

As for Rune Factory, well, I feel like each Rune Factory was better than the previous. RF1 was okay, RF2 was more fun since it didn't seem so slow, RF3 was even better and... well, haven't played RF4. (Please bring that out to Europe or I'll have to import the Japanese version!)

Whoa, we're getting too off-topic...!
...um, uh... b-back to Smash Bros. People say they were expecting Yoshi to be announced, but then, why are peope expecting that to even require an announcement? Yoshi's been in Smash since the first one, why would he suddenly not be in the game?

Yeah the thread got kinda derailed back there. I don't know if another Colosseum will be added, but Lumiose City has been confirmed for de 3DS if you like pokemon themed stages.

Today is somewhat different in that Sakurai posted four pictures to explain the scrolling Super Mario 3D Land stage for the 3DS, which for some reason is named after the game itself and not something more clever.

The stage starts here in front of Peach's castle, scrolling to the right:
Image

Then you descend down a valley, where the protruding rocks can change the angles of the platforms:
Image

After that, more side-scrolling down a hill:
Image

Finally, it leads to an on-rails section that goes towards the background as seen in an early trailer:
Image

It culminates at a warp pipe that brings you back to the start. The whole round trip takes a total of about two minutes, according to Sakurai.

So that's three new 3DS stages and a large expansion on a fourth in a little over a week and a half. Not bad overall. I hope he gets back to Wii U stages soon though.

It's not like he's going "WOW LOOK HOW INNOVATIVE WE ARE!"

He's showing it to explain the different arenas we would be fighting in. Granted he could just show us one screen but then none of us would know about the stages' gimmick until we actually played it.

I really loved the scrolling stages before, a lot of people dislike them for the Chaos but they always appeal to me as they mean you need to adapt more to the environment.

Though wow those screenshots make it look like some awesome Megaman x Kirby crossover game.

No, I'm more wondering why bother showing us that? We had scrolling stages in Brawl, it really is not necessary to explain to us how it works. It's... it's not very difficult to figure it out. It feels like he explained that, just so he shows some new news about the next Smash. God forbid they actually keep things a secret for us to figure out on our own...

I'm going to go ahead and guess that you had that image of Rosalina knocked out from the other day? Word of advice, you probably shouldn't link directly from the daily url as it can lead to... well, a completely different meaning to your post when the image changes. Your best option is either using the image url from Miiverse or a different source, as I did when I quoted your post.

I would imagine so. And a quick google image search with safety off more than confirms that. *shudder* Some of that stuff needs to be burned at the stake.

Ehhhhhhh... I can't really imagine Magnus doing anything another character like Ike can't do, and do we really need more swordsmen? Realistically if there was another KI character, it'd be Palutena (eh) or Dark Pit (PLEASE GOD NO).

That being said, even though there's no chance in hell of it happening, I'm going to go ahead and say I'd like to see Thanatos playable. Come on, he's a shapeshifter. You can't deny that would be fun. Final Smash: Glo worm Dragon Form.
