It's actually funny when you realize that in Japan, the Professor Layton games are famous for their voice actors (by which I don't mean famous voice actors, but that they always hire famous/popular actors like Horikita Maki to voice their games). Their pictures are even featured prominently on the packages!

I think it's impressive that, to stay true to that in a localization Nintendo actually did the same with western actors, just to mimic that! :-P

I love how highly American Phoenix and Maya's voices are. Strong contrast with the British Layton.

Spoiler: Ending spoiler
I came across Miles Edgeworth in a walkthrough video on YouTube for this game. Voice is actually much higher than that of Kyle Hebert's, but it's a bit suitable

Well, the game's credits listed Trevor White, so I don't see why that shouldn't be Phoenix. Though it did make me skeptical since the name practically appeared at the bottom of the actors list.

Kudos to Level5 for listing their cast in the credits unlike Capcom for AA

I hate to be picky, but this is the first Professor Layton game to give credit to the VAs. At least the first three AAs gave credit to their VAs.

I could be mistaken, but I think the voice actors for the PL games are listed in the manuals. Not as good as credits in the game, but at least they're not totally without ID... :yogi:

Bolt: The manual for this game (at least in english) is just two pages with images explaining the mechanics. There are no credits to see :-/

I can't really comment on this since I haven't played either version, but apparently some Japanese critics found the voice acting by Hiroki Narimiya and Mirei Kiritani to be lackluster. Perhaps it stems from the fact that they're LIVE-ACTION ACTORS and not VAs. There's a whole world of difference in acting only with your voice, than with your body and expressions.

As for what I've heard of the British dub, it's pretty good so far. Sans Luke of course, but that's only because I'm so used to Lani Minella instead of Maria Darling. I never understood why they'd change voices between two versions that are already in English. Go with one or the other and then skip this whole mess.

If I remember correctly, the UK was originally supposed to get the Lani Minella version as well. However, when British game reviewers were allowed to preview the game, they found Luke's accent annoying and fake-sounding. So they redid it for the UK. Personally, I'm English and I initially found UK Luke annoying, but he grew on me over the series. US Luke just sounds weird to me- the pronunciation sounds off.

The Layton games also differ in the UK in that some of the puzzles are different, normally due to different systems of measurement or because they wouldn't make sense for the other European translations.

I don't think anybody has posted this yet- somebody has posted the list of voice actors for the English version:
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/for ... hp?p=73013

However, they are taken straight from the credits, which don't mention who voiced which character.

Yes, we only know Trevor and CRM voiced the respective protagonists, but the Professor Layton wiki has been getting more of the info on the game, even regarding who voiced who. Not sure what their sources are, but I'm gonna investigate
