This month's issue of Nintendo Dream, on sale now in Japan, has a small article on Dai Gyakuten Saiban. While it doesn't sound like there's any major updates, the article confirms that Ryuunosuke is a college student when the game begins, and the art director for the game is Kazuya Nuri (character director on Rise from the Ashes, AJ, AAI, and PLvsAA), which had been previously speculated but not confirmed.

We'll keep you posted if there are any other updates!

I wonder if that means we'll see him graduate at some point during the game. Or perhaps the game follows his college days and culminates with his eventual graduation? Either way, that's definitely a new take on the usual "greenhorn" protagonist. I wonder if the opposing attorney would also be in school, as well.

Great! I've been hanging out for some more DGS News, hopefully there's some more images/plot details!
Specifying he starts off a college student, he may've been in a practice trial for this new system in the first case?

Maybe that's what the 1st case would be like so it's a tutorial? In fact... I just thought of this, maybe it could be some kind of trial in college which would make it a neat tie in with the events of the very first AA.

But I hope it is more of the mock trial participant/junior partner combo than it is another overachiever who's literally fresh out of his diapers.

Hopefully he'll start out like Phoenix. Getting into law at the standard/recommended age, and being about average. I don't feel like any of Nick's ancestors would be prodigies :sahwit:

To put things in context: you'd have to be pretty smart (and wealthy) to be a university student in mid-late Meiji. Only 1~3% of student population managed to get all the way to the highest education level in Meiji. And if Ryuunosuke is studying law (which seems likely), he should be doing that at one of the Imperial Universities (as there were the only highest level education facilities to offer law). And while the (former) Imperial Universities are pretty hard to get into now too, entrance was even more difficult back in Meiji.

Dang, so maybe he'll still be the one (as in, his parents) paying for meals.

On the other hand, seeing the story from the viewpoint of a member of a higher social class could be interesting. I figure Susato would then be a fellow student, and I'm hoping she's his senpai, rather than kouhai.

I have a feeling that despite all this, he's still going to be a goofball who barely gets by. Even if Phoenix got into a really good school too, he didn't seem like he was the best student.

And in classic tutorial action, he's going to fumble on the basic facts of the case.

Well...then we have to question...how accurate is this 'Meiji' era actually going to be. I don't think they'll put that much effort to the recreation.

It's a joke somehow about an underclassman being all shy and attracted to an upperclassman (a Senpai).

Something along those lines. It's definitely very circumstantial, but I just thought it'd be funny if it could be done.

In that case, I think it's more appropriate if Ryuu's the one with the attention deficit. Court cases would be quite interesting.

I get it is a formality... but Kazuya Nuri being the art director was always in plain sight. You can see the way noses are drawn and general attention to detail that is just a "trademark" if you will of Nuri's style.
