We already got a glimpse of his POV in 3-5, but it doesn't hurt to bring it up again. Besides, if this ever comes to light, the primary thing I'd look forward to is watching these two object to each other and argue over the wrong evidence.

Yes, and I loved that. On a related note, having Phoenix as an opponent would be weird and fun. I don't know how it would happen though, perhaps if there'd be a short courtroom part or something for whatever reason. And as this thread is about GS and not GK, I just had a strange thought, like if you'd use Athena's psychology knowledge to somehow try to think as the prosecutor to pick their arguments apart before they could express them and... yeah, I don't know. It just passed my head.

Actually I pictured the two of them working together and breaking out into an argument. With these two, it's inevitable no matter who's on which side.

But understanding the opponent's psychology and using it to an advantage isn't Athena's field; that's Blackquill's. If we see him again in this next game (and we probably will), Athena may just be able to pick up on his tactics before it's too late for once. That means she's growing fast into a proper lawyer, as she should have been.

If GK3 took place between AAI2 and AJ, then a dynamic between Edgeworth and Hobonick would be hilarious. He could be one of the main characters in the game
Rubia Ryu the Royal wrote:
As for AAI, while it has been localized, the only characters worth bringing back are Lang and Kay. Badd retired and turned his badge in, Calisto was arrested and tried in another country, Rhoda is a flight attendant, and Lauren... random fangirl. Though, in Kay's case, she really doesn't have anything better to do than to ruin Edgeworth's day. At least Lang can still have a role as a member of Interpol, but if it's just him, I don't think it's worth bringing anyone up. Nonetheless, let the Republic of Zheng Fa be merged into the mainstream canon. It's an entire country, not a minority.

And if they REALLY wanted Nick to meet with Kay or Lang for some obscure reason, then let Nick star as a cameo in a GK game. Problem solved.

I still wouldn't say it's out of the question for someone like Hayami to appear. After all, I doubt the writers of GS6 would be keeping the Western audience in mind when deciding whether or not to include a character. But yes, it would be awkward for the Western fans

Badd may have retired, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's out. He came back at the end of AAI2 to testify in the IS-7 incident. It's possible he could become a private investigator or something or even a defendant. I'm just daydreaming over here about an interaction between Badd/Apollo or Badd/Athena. I agree Kay would be completely unnecessary in a GS game. Lang could work, but the only cases he's ever been involved in have involved Zheng Fa in some way. If they continue the Phantom storyline into GS6, then that could be a decent way to rope him in assuming the Phantom has killed internationally (and I'm assuming Lang would be someone like Angel Starr, and not a direct rival to the attorneys). Rhoda could work because she's not a flight attendant all the time, but I doubt the team cares about her that much. And though I know I should stop mentioned GK2 characters, Otome Itami is someone who would fit in very well into a GS game

True, but how does being a prosecutor prevent her from ruining Edgeworth's day?

No. He'd be even worse than Kay as the game mascot.

They'd more likely consider the audience that doesn't follow the GK games at all. Localization is but one issue.

It was stated in-game that the Phantom bloke caused enough trouble to get several governments aiming for his head. It's not too farfetched to say that Interpol's been busy with guys like him. This would make good material for a GK game.

That's true, but keep in mind that a lot of the games are written for anyone to pick up. Dual Destinies was a lot of people's first time with the series, but it still had cameos

Simply put, he'd be in there for nothing more than fanservice and maybe a few laughs. The GK games won't break continuity regarding an investigation into Nick's controversial case, since it's not supposed to be solved until 7 years later. Aside from that, what exactly would he be doing? At best, he'd be a witness to some odd murder incident and almost be suspected for it.

Yes, it had GS cameos, not of GK. What it did have were GK references; Yumihiko's uniform and the "Guilty Dogs" poster at the academy. If they wanted to include GK references, why only stick with references and not bring in the actual characters from those games?

The first part ended up being a lot about GK, so I put it in the GK3 thread instead

Well, GK1 had two AJ references but no AJ characters appeared (young versions) and we know the GK series has no problem with making cameos of GS characters. Yamazaki has only made one GS game so we'll have to see, I suppose. I don't think it's out of the question (though I think the reason he had less cameos in DD was a response to the criticism about too many cameos in the GK series)

Yeah i know it's just a slightly different version of

I would have preferred if she had been an android all along.

Still, I don't know how innovative it'd be for the assistant
Spoiler: for one of the most spoiled reveals ever in a Japanese detective game
to be a villain. One of the earliest pioneers to the visual novel genre is one that anyone who's played it or even only heard about it knows who's the real culprit. Since it was never localized, the western audience isn't as familiar with it. It's called The Portopia Serial Murder Case,
which I admit has been brought up several times in this thread already and I probably should stop.

Ace Attorney has played with the idea in 5-5, but ultimately, it didn't come to pass simply because the developers were going for a "bigger" twist. Still, the irony that goes into "fixing" the Dark Age of Law is so much more of a twist than anything, really.

Far from it. Since Aura's not going to be using Judgetron any time soon, someone should fill in the void that is a lack of mecha in this game.

I sure hope this new prosecutor has a radio transceiver built into his/her mic headset. Communications between the Prosecutor's Office and the Police Department couldn't be better.

I'm really unsure how Athena's gonna fit into this game. She was kinda thrown in in GS5, and kinda Threw Apollo into Trucy's position. And Trucy was essentially a cameo. So hopefully in GS6, Athena takes the filler case, and is you're "What to do?/Any Ideas?" Character in the overarching plot cases. (Unless the team manages to fit all 3 characters into the main plot, as I don't see them making Nick unplayable. Heaven forbid.)

Rubia Ryu the Royal wrote:
I think I'd rather see him again in GK3 rather than GS6. Nothing against the GK games, but the characters introduced in those games should keep out of the GS games. Not all fans of this franchise play the GK games, so there are those who'd rather not bother with characters that aren't part of the "mainstream canon", so to speak. Besides, we already have Athena at the agency. What chaos we'd end up with if Kay suddenly pops in from nowhere again.

I definitely don't think Kay would make it in to a GS game, but I had thought that seeing as this game'd be made by the GK team, that aging a GK character, and bringing him in as a "new" character with a new personality would make it acceptable. (I was also under the impression GK was canon, and linked to the main story? Is it not?)

It's canon in the way that it doesn't contradict anything in the GS games, but it's not a part of the mainstream. It's like how Takumi considers DGS as part of the mainstream games, even if it's not a numbered title. That's all I meant.

And if they bring Yumihiko as a "new" character, I think it's rather shameful if they couldn't come up with a completely legit new character to take his place. They come up with new ideas and character designs all the time, but most don't make it into the games for obvious reasons or otherwise - more often, otherwise.

But I'd still welcome him in a GK game. There's little reason for him not to show up. He actually gained some sort of redeeming quality to his character by the end of GK2, so I don't mind his obnoxious little brat attitude for once.

Huh, I sure have been acting pretty mean to these characters lately. Is this some sort of transitional phase before an epiphany?

I'd like to see a case that actually turns out to be an accident. There were a couple of cases in the past that appeared to be accidents, like 3-1 for instance, but they turned out to be murders. I'd like for once, just once, have a case that doesn't have a straight forward villain, or at the very least, has a sympathetic villain that actually is sympathetic. Whenever they've attempted to make sympathetic villains in the past, it never worked, I want to see one that actually works!

It'd either be the best medley ever that has come out of this series, or something pretty forgettable. As impressive as it'd sound, anyway, I think it'd be a bit too lazy for them to come out with one like a medley. Both Sugimori and Iwadare have remixed their pieces over and over again. We should have a reboot sometime.

Nah, it's not a medley I had in mind. Rather, as I said, something like Court ~ Guardians of the Law from AAI soundtrack. This one piece nicely mixed up together the melody of all (back then) 4 "Court Begins" themes from GS1-4 games.

That's a medley too. The very definition of medley is a "mix". >3>

Certainly, the new theme can throw out musical references to the past themes. I just hope it doesn't take those references overboard to the point like it overtakes the original melody.

...so I just beat GS5 for my second time, (and played the cases in chronological order... TRY IT!) and I couldn't help throughout the last bit of 5-5 to observe some stuff that made me think of some, IMO, good guidelines for Do's and Don'ts of GS6 as well as some moments that made me realize a couple of neat ideas for GS6 in general.

Do's:
- Do make it clear that there are other living human beings inside the courtroom other than the defence, prosecution, witness-bench and the Judge. In GS5 moreso than any of the older games, and even PLvsPWAA to some extent, I thought the courtroom felt really empty. It finally struck me as I was playing DD for the second time, that the zooming out moments where the audience would rabble completely lacked the animations of the old games where you'd see 2D sprites on the two balconies left and right animated with 2 or three frames. It was very simple but greatly added to the immersion that the Courtroom had people watching the trials. Those blacked-out people sitting on chairs behind the witness bench is not enough. We need AA6 to slightly redefine the courtroom so it feels lively again.

- Do use more of those good old "Press harder/Wait and see..." moments during testimonies. These were sorely lacking in DD, whereas in the Takumi games they would be in almost every testimony. Sometimes it could be really hard and frustrating, but I felt like they could make a testimony become a puzzle in itself, while DD was more automated. That should change in AA6 IMO. :sahwit:

- if the Mood Matrix is back, make it manually deployable into a testimony. It should be like the bracelet function in AJAA where you could read the whole testimony as you usually would, but also pick out on tics. I hope the Mood Matrix would be used in a similar fashion, but it shouldn't be obvious that "you have to use it because it's available" to progress.

Don'ts:
- Don't use anime-cutscenes for the sake of using anime cutscenes. This should be self-explanatory to anyone who's played the game. At least over half of the cutscenes don't really add anything that couldn't have been shown just as well with in-game dialogue, camera angles or pictures. PLvsPWAA used its cutscenes cleverly to portray the new courtroom, the circumstances of a case (GS5 did it as well, but I feel like only case 2 properly showed the happening as it would've been visible to the pure eye). I guess for the most part, GS5 just used Anime cutscenes to show characters talking inside the courtroom or showing Athena's martial arts, and in the end I felt they were wasted on pointless stuff. (Minus 5 or 6 scenes that felt truly necessary)

- Don't use artificial symbolism
Spoiler: Final GS5 case spoilers
In 5-5 the last trial goes too much into kind of a 2deep4u territory when it comes to symbolism and messaging. For one thing, it turns out that the reason the "Hope" capsule is named "hope" in the first place, is so that Phoenix can refer to it as an attribute to Athena's moon-earring which is apparently the final "hope" for uncovering the truth and saving the day. Another big example is Apollo's bandages. The narrative throws all realism out the window for the sake of establishing Apollo's mummy-getup as a solely psychological consequence. Once his "doubt" is cleared up he simply throws his bandages and the coat on the floor in the lobby and goes "i'm Fine now!" ("Herp-a-derp!") and Phoenix even says "So, I guess you won't be needing that eyepatch anymore". Well it's true, the eyepatch, he could just throw off, but the rest, minus the jacket was just stuff he wore because he was PHYSICALLY hurt by a friggin bomb that blew off the roof of an entire courtroom.
I mean, this is just the tip of the iceberg, but you get the idea. We don't need this cheesyness, at least, I don't think so.

And a really cool idea imposed by the final villain breakdown in GS5
Spoiler:
During the Phantom's breakdown the scenery is changed for dramatic effect so that the courtroom's lighting is dimmed and as the camera pans out towards the roof it is nighttime and the full-moon is visible. I'd love AA6 to have a final trial being held at night. The graphics look really good during the Phantom's Breakdown and it really makes the coutroom look dark and eerie. It's a must IMO

I was considering doing this with AAI, which would probably be strange considering that due to structure, they reveal things like the major details of the KG-8 incident in the first chronological case and Edgeworth won't recognize Kay, even though the audience does (in Case 3)

Anyway, I probably need to let the game sit more before I replay it, but how was it chronologically? Was anything added to the experience? I feel like it might be detracted since the beginning of Case 4 spoils Case 1 and the reveal
Spoiler:
that Apollo's bandage wasn't a result of the courtroom bombing

This is kind of iffy. General rule of thumb is that you ALWAYS press harder (unless it's a testimony where you get penalized for pressing), and whenever a new statement is added, that's the contradictory one. The only times it was subverted was in 2-4 (you had to wait and see during a de Killer testimony. That tripped me up for a while), 3-5 (during one of Dahlia's testimonies, you have to get a new statement added through pressing, but that makes ANOTHER statement contradictory), and GK2 (pressing a statement adds a new statement and pressing that statement adds another). Sure, I wouldn't say no if they did add it and I would like it if they made the testimonies more puzzle-like (and that goes for the entire series), but I didn't really notice it much in DD

I agree with this and I think it will be added. In the last case of the game, you could switch through presenting contradictory evidence and using the Mood Matrix (you just couldn't press). It would be cool to have a Mood Matrix that you had to decide whether to use or not, but I don't know how they can do that without making Athena the assistant/playable character in every case again

Spoiler: GK2-4
There's a character with a lot of bandages in this case as well, and the nurse explains that the bandages weren't covering any wounds. He/she was bandaged so heavily because, "prevention is better than the cure." Apollo's thing is probably the same thing, or at the very least a *wink wink nod nod*

But to do this, we'd need another case in Courtroom No. 4, which is probably a one time thing. Unless they rebuild the courtroom with a giant skylight

And another with a stained-glass ceiling. It'd put the courtroom in odd lighting, but it'd look so cool. \(^ワ^)/

They should build a skylight, it'd be cool.

A chandelier. Which falls upon a witness during a trial, just as he/she wanted to make a crucial testimony.

(Inspired by the fact that you should never, never, neeeeever stand beneath the light source in the Opera House in the Kindaichi Case Files series. That thing has managed to kill each time the Opera House appeared in the series)

It could work as a kind of Chekhov's gun - the chandelier is seen and perhaps commented on early in the game and you just know it will fall sometime.

To be quite frank, the courtroom design as depicted in the GS5 opening cutscene clearly shows it has a huge roof-window through which the daylight or moonlight would shine through (it is seen during the bombing sequence)

All I would like to see is the courtroom being dimmed, but yeah I get it... there'd have to be lights on at night (Becuase, DUH!). Maybe they could just make a whacky proscutor or witness who's, as always, intimidating and they tell the judge to turn off the lights or something like that. If Blackquill was to return in GS6, he might as well do it. (I don't know what the context would be in reasoning why the light should be switched off, but c'mon, it looks cool!)

But didn't we already have a... Phantom of the Opera Courtroom?
