Favourite Courses: Electrodome, Mount Wario, Shy Guy Falls, New Bowser's Castle.

Pretty damn awesome off the top of my head.

Though the amount of modification they did on old tracks can make them feel fresh and new enough for me. New Rainbow Road especially is wondrous.

My favorite still goes to the DS, but Mario Kart 7's was pretty amazing as well. I won't knock it.

W-well... I guess since you asked and all... Seika6

RR7 was incredible. That final lap music...

I guess I should really try to get the other Mario Karts, I only have half of them (Super, 64, 7, and 8). Had trouble with the DS controls, though, and isn't the GBA one just a remake of the original?

No, the Gameboy Advance one has 16 new courses. In all honesty, it was the first game in the series to do retro tracks as it also had all 16 tracks from Super Mario Kart.

Yeah, those races were quite fun! If only the charge on my gamepad wasn't running out, I'd have stayed for more. I put up a couple of replays from our sessions, too.

Well, who else in the Mushroom Kingdom would claim ownership of an entire mountain, name it after themselves and turn it into a ski resort to rake in the money?

Donkey Kong comes close...

I played for about an hour tonight, but I didn't see anyone on, but I had a lucky streak. I was able to raise my rank from 1300 to about 1680, so it was a nice night. Lots of Rosalinas though, holy cow.

They're everywhere, I didn't realize how popular she was. On top of that, I should rephrase that, counting me, there were six, but one was a baby. I did get a good laugh out of a race when I saw I racing against someone named Chinigan. Totally made my night.

What is WITH Rainbow Road.

My item set for it was 3 sets of 3 Mushrooms followed by 2 Golden Mushrooms...on a track with nearly no straights to use em!

Honestly worthless items can't gain places with those.

Mushrooms do tend to be more risky on turns, but it's certainly possible to use one while drifting.

Yeah I know and I do but I'd still rather something aggressive that affects the person ahead of me.

Mushrooms are best when there's rough terrain so you can take advantage of the lack of friction to make shortcuts. Nothing like that on Rainbow Road, only death.

Also Oh my god Lucy you are AMAZING at this game :beef:

On Wario Stadium there it was a constant battle for second then when I got it I was like "Right! Time to see where 1st is" and I glanced at the map and no joke you were so far ahead I almost choked in disbelief!

Please share your wisdom with me!

Because you have low points, you were put into a group of people with similar amounts. So, I suppose they weren't as experienced. Anyway, once I got out of the main group it was smooth sailing. :redd:

There are a few shortcuts you can take near the end where mushroom use is optimal. If you drop between the paths to save a few seconds, you can boost off the previous ledge for a farther landing point, or to overcome the rough patches the landing zones have. Also, you can boost around the last curve instead of using the boost pads, as the smaller distance to the center you create while drifting means you'll get to the end faster and in a better position.

It gets harder as your score gets higher. How many points you get in any given race is a function of both your opponents' scores and what place you finish in. The downside of this is that it makes winning a much higher priority when your score is high; place too low and you'll lose points, and that becomes more likely when the majority of your opponents have a lower score than you.

Hmm I hadn't considered that, normally I try my best to land on the inside curb of that flying section as is but I'll bear that in mind as a future tactic thanks.

All the same I prefer red shells for dealing with distant opponents over mushrooms XP

So you're the one who took my star!! Argh, I got frustrated. The amount of times I was getting hit. General Luigi is quickly catching up to me points wise as well.

I'm thinking of using a heavier character. Getting pushed around at the start seems to put me at a disadvantage.

Anyway, I had fun. :maya:

Ah it's just so tempting from back in the days of DD where you'd really benefit from it then.

In any case I need to step up my game, massively outclassed there so I think I'll try for some better handling.

I actually went into that race thinking "Man Lucy was miles ahead last time, more speed!" but after the modifications I found I couldn't control my drifts as much as I'd like to (especially on Melody Motorway at the end with General Luigi).

Also Grumble Volcano is my kryptonite.

I love Grumble Volcano, but yeah, it's a pretty nasty course. Also, I never intentionally boost into an opponent. I have yet to truly master controlling my bike during a boost, and if I'm in the middle of the pack, smacking into an opponent is pretty much inevitable. And yes, there were a lot of very skilled racers. I don't recall coming in first even once that session (I did get one close second, though). I was kind of annoyed when I accidentally selected Piranha Plant Slide when I wanted the N64 Rainbow Road--made even more frustrating when the game stopped on me. If I hadn't slipped up, we would have raced on Rainbow Road.

I have very low speed. I value acceleration over it.

I'm also going to step up my game. I'm going to practice offline trying out heavier characters to see what works for me.

And yeah Grumble Volcano and piranha plant pipe way are my worst stages.

Piranha Pipeway came up so much there...it's just so horribly claustrophobic that I can barely move in any direction.

I'm experimenting with bikes just now since apparently they have the better handling but god drifting feels so weird on them :ron:

Also does anyone know what "Grip" affects in game.
