So far the camera part isn't explained why it's there but only how it works.

You basically fend off ghosts with it by snapping pictures of them.

I'm relatively certain the logic behind it originates from the belief in Japan that when you capture a picture of somebody you capture a part of their soul. Though they don't really elaborate further on the Camera Obscura.

Joel is selfish and weak for what he did at the end, he couldn't bear to let Ellie go and fulfil her own dream invalidating the entire point of the journey and everything they'd sacrificed along the way. Marlene was right about it only being a matter of time before something horrible happens (hell I died enough in the story after all).

I might even be able to take it if he didn't tell such a barefaced lie at the end about it, Ellie deserved to know what happened, she deserved to make her own decision but Joel was too selfish and afraid to let her. Then when she asks him directly about it, he lies further.

So at somepoint down the road the Fireflies will eventually find them or hunt them and she'll be recaptured, the truth will be explained and she'll hate Joel for what he did. Or worse, he starts killing everyone who comes near wantonly in fear they might be Fireflies and expose the truth leading her to think him even more of a monster until she just leaves him of her own accord.

50% of what you said is why I love the ending
Spoiler: The Last of Us Ending
Ellie might be the heart and soul of the game, but Joel is the star character. He's probably my favorite of all time when it comes to video games and it's due to the fact that he feels painfully real. He's not a hero, he's not an anti-hero, and he's not really a villain. He's just a person; a father who's had the world rip too much away from him and can't afford to lose more.

Was Joel selfish? Incredibly, but this is what him feel so real that it hurt. Was he weak? Hell, no. I think most people wouldn't sacrifice their daughter for the good of humanity. I think their relationship was developed enough for the sacrifice to feel earned. Plus, keep in mind that the game has also explored humanity. You fight infected as much as you fight people. Joel realized humanity wasn't worth saving. Sure, Ellies exist, but so do a lot Davids. They didn't deserve a cure

The lie was a shitty thing for Joel to do, but I can understand his actions. He didn't want to lose Ellie again. Ellie knows that he lied to her but she doesn't care because she knows that Joel cares about her now (what she wanted in the cabin). She'll never realize the full extent of what Joel did (murdering a lot of fireflies, killing the only brain surgeon in the world, and killing her foster mother) but at the moment both of them are happy. I thought it was kind of touching

And I don't think the fireflies will be much of a threat to them. Joel really dismantled them

Spoiler: The Last of Us ending
You can speak for yourself about the Fireflies, I didn't kill that many as ultimately they were good people. Plus I hate using any kind of ammo and the times I did go for full on confrontation those assault rifles will down you pretty quickly. Smoke bombs were my weapon of choice in the finale. It's funny how every other human has unlimited ammo where I need to scrabble for it.

But in any case I think it's highly up for debate as to whether Ellie KNEW about the lie. The look on her face at the end to me seemed one of complete and utter trust, because she knows Joel would never hurt her or lie to her. Oh the irony. After all remember what Marlene said, it's what Ellie wanted, she referred to herself as the "hope of the universe" on several occasions throughout the trip and knew exactly what she was getting in for. Joel deprived her of her destiny, I'm not sure if she knew about that she would forgive him.

Now it's not necessarily a bad ending, but I'd have at least given Ellie the choice, shoved the Doctor aside instead of killing him and had at least some last words with her before she made whatever decision she wanted. Joel is weak in the end. I'm not saying humanity has to be perfect, or even that it's a bad ending. I just wish it could have been different.

Also yeah, humanity has it's badside but it also has it's goodside. Consider David, like you said he can be a bit of a monster, however he led a diplomatic settlement (they discuss voting in a new leader once everything blows over) and he protects the women and children of his settlement. Now lets not forget that when Ellie asks about the 'raiders' in the City Joel admits to having been on both sides of that conflict in the past.

Yes no one is perfect but it doesn't mean you can wreck the entire world for it.

Ok about the fireflies, but at the very least Joel killed their leader. We don't know how well they can organize without her. We don't really enough about them to say anything

My interpretation from the game has always been that it was fairly obvious that Ellie knew Joel was lying and was ok with it (though she didn't know the full extent). I looked it up and realized I was wrong. Ellie did know Joel was lying but had an opposite reaction
"Then we come to that ending and that lie and that okay and what does that okay mean? It’s definitely not a complacent ‘yea I’ll go along with you’, in fact, it’s the opposite. It’s Ellie waking up for the first time, waking up and realizing she can’t rely on him anymore. While she loves him for what he’s done for her, she hates him for robbing her of that choice. She knows that she has to leave him and make her own decisions and mistakes.”-Neil Druckmann

Remember that David ran a community of cannibals, though. Plus, I'm pretty sure he was going to rape Ellie before she killed him

In the end though, humanity's shittiness was only a contributing factor in Joel's decision. Sarah's death shattered him and he's barely held together. He doesn't care if he lives or dies. He doesn't let Ellie make the decision because he knows what decision she's going to make (when Marlene says, "It's what she'd want", Joel's look says it all). Joel couldn't afford to be broken again so he saved Ellie over the world. I liked that kind of ending because I was thinking they'd go a route where one of them kills the other

Plus, I love Joel's line at the end where he says that you, "Keep finding something to fight for" as he painfully touches his watch

Spoiler: The Last of Us
Well we don't really know much about the Fireflies leadership but it's reasonable to assume they'd have a second in command who could step forward and lead in Marlene's absence (after all she was away for a long time).

David might have been a cannibal but he still looked after an (while through dubious means) provided food for a good number of people. Desperate times and Desperate measures and all that. Joel's fed himself through dubious means no doubt when he raided people himself.

Still I think it's amusing that the Last of Us ending has so many different interpretations from the ending. It's so hard to read Ellie's face at the end there as like he said that "Okay" can mean so many things.

In any case like I said it's not that the ending is bad, I just find Joel despicable for what he did. I'd have preferred and ending where they gave you a choice in the matter and if it came down to it, some final words with Ellie before she undergoes the operation. Then perhaps Joel could try a place in the Fireflies for a while, going farther afield to spread "Ellie's Gift" with the world. He'd have something new to fight for.

Okay to get the posts away from spoiler-filled Last of Us talk.

I tried playing the PSP version of Final Fantasy Tactics. The directions are so freaking wonky on the field. Why do I not have a settings option before starting a new game to make the text appear instantly? I don't have time to wait until a character finishes talking until the entire text appears. I read faster than they supposedly talk. The English dub is terrible. I have no clue about the story because they tell it via a boring FMV or, again, the slow text that I skip cause I don't have time to read it. Also, why is there no option to play as a chick to begin with?

Well...not every game has to have the 'alternate gender' option. I don't see it as a necessity in every game. Especially in the medieval feudal society where FFT is set.

Though I don't think the port is that great, the game is brutally hard and yes directing units on the field can be difficult. Also the game struggles to process and slows down so much on even medium-sized battlefields.
Which is a shame as I loved FFTA and FFTA2

If it's set in medieaval times and it's uncommon for women to know how to do things, how come the first battle has multiple female knights in it on my side?

*shrugs* My memories are vague so I guess they are just running with a less Gender-restrictive medieval setting. In any case they don't allow you to create a character in any way so presumably the designers wanted the character to be male for whatever reason be it character-based or just interaction-based.

If they was an actual character creation system and there was no female option, then you'd probably have a case. As it is I don't think they did anything wrong.

Well as nice as the IDEA of the open world was nice, like watching your Sim go on a jog or walking their pet, fact is that the open world has some pretty bad problems. For one, the loading was being done in front of you, which can be annoying. For another, the open world never populated the places properly.
I went to dozens of Hot Spots when I had Late Night installed and the only person there was the Mixologist and MAYBE one NPC sim. That's not very populated for a Hot Spot. Even general community lots weren't populated a whole lot. The idea was nice, but the execution needed a lot to be desired.

Apparently they're coming out with a "New Nintendo 3DS," which has an analog stick on the right side. I really really really really really really really really hope they don't make (many) games that need the upgrade, because otherwise they're basically forcing us to pay full price for a minor console upgrade ~_~

Actually the stick 'expansion' has been available for a while. Even if they release a new console with it you can buy the circle pad pro (available on 3DS XL as well) and just strap that on for a second stick.

So you wouldn't need to pay full price for another console.

I have a circle pad pro and it has the ZL and ZR buttons on it as well, and that was only $5 (for an official one, believe it or not, thank you Target for clearing out old stock!). So there is the cheaper alternative.

The New 3DS (LL) is also technically stronger; the Xenoblade port is only playable on New 3DS. The new stick isn't that much a problem, but if they're going to release more New 3DS exclusive games...

Yeah, a couple of New 3DS-only games wouldn't be a problem, because I understand they want a selling hook for the New 3DSs, but if it became the handheld console... (Sort of like if every DS game was DSi-exclusive after the DSi came out.)

Even before I found out about the New 3DS, I had basically already decided I wasn't getting Xenoblade 3DS. While I love love love the game, I already poured 100 hours into the original, and just can't do it all over again xD

Also I had totally forgotten about CPPs. And they're region-free, hoorah!

So, I'm on the Water Hazard level in Half-Life 2. For those of you that don't know, you basically drive a speedboat through a river to escape the city, occasionally getting out to open a gate.

Anyway, I had this crazy idea to play the Mario Circuit music in the background as I drove around, and... well, this was my reaction:

It's helpful in some situations but it's not necessary mostly for camera controls. I got it to help me out with Camera Controls when playing Monster Hunter and as far as I know it works with Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.

Is the Xenoblade remake not applicable on other consoles because it's too powerful for the standard 3DS or because it NEEDS the Second Stick. I already have the CPP so if it's the latter I might be able to play it.

It needs the new CPU of the New 3DS.

It'll probably basically function like the C-stick on the gamecube. Speaking of which, the New 3DS will have everything on the GC controller... so if they released GC Virtual Console games for it, that would be amazing.

I think the new upgraded 3D looks neat, although the switch to microSDs was a pretty big turn-off. But then I saw the amazing MH4G New 3DS LL and... I just might have to buy it.

I think Xenoblade's issue is gonna be processing power. While it needs a second analog stick for camera controls, the CPP would fill that job.
(Though I don't see why they can't just disable the 3D effects on older 3DS units - I'm sure it would save some power.)

Woah slow down son, tell me...is this new 3DS coming with a MH4G version in the west? That's worth upgrading for (just like I upgraded my blue one for the MH3U XL one).

Plus I'm kinda disappointed to hear that the actual new more powerful CPU makes it 'necessary' to play a game. That just SCREAMS that they'll make more games that work only on it. Companies will want to take full advantage of the system after all.

(Oh god. Is this how suckers talk?)

Well, there were a couple of DSi-only games when the DSi came out, but there were never too many. My hunch is that it'll be the same for New 3DS.

Companies want to take full advantage of the system, but they also want to sell more games, and the regular 3DS market/audience is going to be bigger than the New 3DS one.

It just looks awesome.

I really liked and wanted the Fire Emblem 3DS, but found out about it too late when it was out of stock... Kinda don't want to go through that again xD

It's beaauutiful...but that'll only be out in Japan I'll bet yeah?

I was sad because I wanted the Monster Hunter 3U game when I upgraded to 3DS XL, but only the Japanese got the cool looking version.

I wouldn't even know where to begin but no matter, if there's a cool "Super 3DS" coming with Monster Hunter 4 I may be inclined to upgrade (again).

Azure Striker Gunvolt review by KWing. The game seems pretty cool... of course my question now is, will this game come to Europe or is it already or will it be goddamn cancelled or just plain not released in Europe because we repeatedly get raped by the No Localization For You di-... stick.
