According to the leaker, Sherlock Holmes will appear in Dai Gyakuten Saiban (presumably as the rival character). This version's Watson is an eight-year-old girl.
Both characters were silhouetted on the official site recently:

Update 4: Full scans, and some new info:
- Ryuunosuke begins the game in Japan, where as a college student he’s involved in a certain case that puts him on the path to becoming a formal attorney. To better study law, he transfers to England along with Mikotoba, where he meets Holmes.
- Most of the story will take place in London, with Japan serving as the setting for Ryuunosuke’s first case.
- Court and investigation proceed in mostly the same way, but during investigations Ryuunosuke and Holmes will use “joint reasoning” - a system where, as Ryuunosuke, you must point out any inconsistencies in Holmes’ rapid-fire reasoning. (The example shown is Holmes accusing a witness of being a certain revolutionary.)
- Part of the reason they settled on 3D was to allow for a very dynamic camera to match Holmes’ high-speed thinking. Takumi jokes that Holmes really set the stage for the game!
- Takumi has a deep love of the Sherlock Holmes stories, so he’s trying to respect the character. Holmes is described as falling somewhere between the “storybook Holmes” and a “real Holmes” - a man who focuses maybe too much on his investigations, but isn’t a bad person at heart.
- Ryuunosuke and Holmes’ meeting is a key point of the game.

Well, he does know the Japanese art of "baritsu". Also, DGS could be set in the blank years after Reichenbach Falls.
But then again, a Japanese speaking Holmes would mess up all those Natsume Soseki / Sherlock Holmes crossovers people for some reason love to write...

Though I'd almost certainly peg Holmes' as a detective character rather than a prosecutor and I'm still a bit sceptical it'll be the literal Holmes himself.

Takumi would make Sherlock a complete joke character, ignoring that Sherly was pretty serious at times. Also, I doubt he'd take over the canonity that Sherly tended to use drugs to keep himself going.

Impossible to pull off, because if this WAS Sherlock, they'd be absolutely wrong since Sherly was a detective and never a prosecutor.

Either way, I really hope this gets localized, because if we end up getting a "Sherlock Holmes vs. Phoenix Wright" I want to be able to play it sometime soon.

It stands for Medical Doctor. I actually hadn't read that part about Watson, and that adds to my uncertainty a little bit. I have enough of a hard time buying a 13 year old Prosecutor, but this is going to be really hard to just roll with unless they come up with some kind of crazy reason.
Also, I'm betting that the ACTUAL Dr. Watson is going to be missing or involved in the crime and will be found/the crime will be resolved in the end.

Am I the only one who cares about this more than the character reveals? We can go INTO the backgrounds, guys! That means we can walk all over the place AND teleport! Yaaaaaay!
"Joint Reasoning" sounds like an interesting concept. I'm hoping for something along the lines of the "zapping system" from the Detective Conan games, but it might just be some form of connecting the dots. Or, maybe it's something in-between! I'm not sure how it'll work out, but it sounds cool.
Even on the off-chance that this leak isn't completely true, I'd at least want these points to be.

Yeah it's really appealing. I just hope they make it similar enough to the history books that you could, say, read all the books and then jump into this and nothing would clash too much. Obviously Watson is different but like I said before I'm not necessarily convinced this is AA's version of the "John Watson" character.
