I'm playing Hyrule Warriors now, actually. It's been fun so far, though the fact the chapters have voiced narration and the character don't bothers me a bit; I'd have preferred an all-or-nothing type of approach, but that's just me. It's also a tad repetitive, but I knew that going in, being a Zelda-themed Dynasty Warriors and all.

I haven't been able to buy it personally (no Wii U = no need for its games) but I played co-op with one of my friends who has it.
And yeah, it might feel a touch repetitive, but bashing wave after wave of enemies is just so satisfying.

(Seriously, do all the Warriors games have such a high concentration of weak mooks?)

The Warriors games are stories about HEROES. The sooner you forget all those mooks have families, wives, children, etc the better.

That's the draw to their fans, actually. Just mopping up mooks like they were cardboard and feeling like a super soldier. It's not my usual taste but having a Zelda spin on it makes it more refreshing than the usual settings of medieval china/japan.

I meant the characters that actually talk in the game. Zelda, Lana, the random captain NPCs, etc. As far as I know Link doesn't actually say anything aside from the usual grunts and screams he always does. Proxi the fairy does all the talking for him.

It is 1902 in my playthrough of Victoria II. A huge war just ended. It started in 1900 over the question of Iraqi independence from the Ottoman Empire. I supported Iraq. The United States supported the Ottomans. Japan supported the United States. Neither side was willing to back down, so war broke out. Austria-Hungary and the United Kingdom joined the war on my side. Because the British had a higher military score, they assumed leadership of our coalition. Boy did that end badly. The British started adding wargoals, demanding that the United States cede New York, New England, and Montana. The war wound up having a few different theaters. In the Middle East, my forces, aided by the Persians and my various South Slavic allies, tore through the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans never stood a chance. In East Asia, I was able to avert a Japanese invasion of Primorye by launching a preemptive invasion of Hokkaido. The war with Japan ended up being a stalemate, the Japanese unwilling to leave Honshu exposed, but also unable to drive my forces out of Hokkaido. In North America, the British got pounded in Canada. I had to evacuate my forces from Alaska as a result. The war was finally won when I sent some of my forces into Florida and Georgia. The Americans were unable to drive my forces out, and after losing a few major battles, they accepted a peace offer from the British.

The terms of the peace offer included disarming the Americans, Japanese, and Ottomans, demanding reparations from them, and the American cession of New England, New York, and Montana to the United Kingdom. You might recall that the war was started over Iraq. The British hung the Iraqis (and by extension, my people) out to dry. The British did next to nothing in the war against the Ottomans and got their butts handed to them by the Americans, yet they were still the ones dictating the terms of the peace agreement, and they chose terms that only benefited them. When the time comes, they will pay for that. The only questions are when and how. Perhaps I'll break up the union? Or perhaps I'll set India free. I'm sure the Americans would love to see their lands returned, too. It will not be immediate, though. One thing I have learned from this war is that while my armies are some of the best, my navy still has room for improvement. The so-called "wooden wall" shall crumble. ...Of course, at this point, it's more of a steel wall, but you get the point, right?

Link has a few "spoken" (read: text-only) lines when you're not playing as him. The only voices that form words are the between narration, and I think we can assume that it's Zelda at this point. Still, as long as it doesn't end up like The Other M, we can be fine. Let's try t-

Link: THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY

Okay, that should get us out of that. Okay, so anyone else grinding supplies? I don't remember doing this kinda crap back in Dynasty Warriors 4 or Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires. Because, frankly, the game spikes difficulty as soon as you hit Death Mountain, and I'm relegating myself to grinding while waiting for my Dad to be P2 again.

You have a point, I suppose I used the wrong terms though normally there's a certain amount of moral qualms about calling people villains in the Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors sets since there's very little in the way of actual evil.

The right word would be ICONIC FIGURES. It's about the Officers clashing and their different personality and events.

Nope not grinding supplies though I didn't find Death Mountain that difficult. The flippin, Gohma however? That sucked. It didn't use it's laser eye attack so all it did was destroy the base. What's so troubling about Death Mountain?

After it you unlock Darunia who I gave a shot in Adventure Mode (HE IS FANTASTIC).

Playing FF XIII cause I want another shot at the TH Trophy on my PS3 - not that I screwed it up. I just did all the Missions with 5 Stars and exchanged Adamantoises and Adamantoirtoises with Shaolong Guis. Which I CAN defeat just fine, yes, but it takes longer than Adamantoises and I felt the time required to defeat one with the chance of RNG screwing me over, I decided just play a new game, experience the story and characters again (Snow just makes me want to stop the game in the Vestige...) and go about just focusing on the TH Trophy rather than everything.

Also Curtain Call, Devil Survivor 2 on the DS, with a NG+ file on the emulator to rectify and re-record a battle with Megrez that I had dumbly deleted a few weeks ago...

And yesterday got the final trophies in Lightning Returns for my PS3 version, so now both my versions have all Achievements and Trophies unlocked. Horray!

Playing Ys Origin as Hugo. With the exception of some bosses the game is pretty forgiving on Normal mode. I love the dungeon crawling, platforming and solving of puzzles in this game (although the 'puzzles' sometimes seem to have random answers). The only real beef I have with this game is that you need to use the zxcv buttons and Z is attack, which means using the pinky or ring finger. Since you need to spam the button every time you attack it gets really taxing on your fingers which you normally don't use as intensely.

Also fuck charging the evil ring. When you finally figure out how to do it the way how is incredibly tedious with little room for error. People who played the game know what I'm talking about.
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

Hyrule Warriors is my first experience with a Dynasty Warriors type game. Well, technically I played the first Dynasty Warriors years ago, but that game is completely different from all future games in the series so I might as well have never played a Dynasty Warriors game. I really like this game, I find it fun, and though it is a bit repetitive at times, I don't mind that. I think I might try playing an actual Dynasty Warriors game, but I don't know where to start. Should I pick up 8, since it's the most recent game in the series?

Maybe I was underleveled? I took them top-down when it came to the first (of I assume multiple) splits.

In fact, leveling is frequently an issue, I think. I come back to Death Mountain now, and it's cake walk. A ticket raffle. A door-to-door "crap you'll never use unless it's food" booster!

Meanwhile, the return to the temple of souls is quite hard. When it says "lure them to x location", it's not like Argorok where it actually just means "go to the fairy fountain".

Again, I think it's leveling. Grinding supplies for benefits also helps out a lot. Actually, let's just move this conversation to the zelda thread.

I am getting good advices on the Miiverse on Infinite Regalia and who to pair Donnel up. Lissa, Sully, Tharja, Panne, and Marribelle.

More Victoria II. Thanks to a bug in the game's code, all the tanks produced in my country go directly to the world market, meaning Germany, who recently surpassed me in the prestige department, is keeping me from buying my own tanks. I've been reduced to using a console command to bypass the bug. I normally disapprove of cheating in this kind of game, but given the circumstances, I see no alternative.

It's currently 1920 and I am up to my neck in rebels. They're disorganized and ill-equipped, so I don't expect them to be anything more than a nuisance. That said, they are becoming very annoying. I can't get my revenge against the British if I always have to have the bulk of my armies home crushing rebellion after rebellion. Reform can't come soon enough.

Well now I have two Dread Fighters that have Locktouch because I was told for Infinite Regalia I would need two of them just to get the chests. But first I need to get my avatar to Max stats before going there. Even though his Strength and Skill are maxed out his other stats needs to be maxed out as well. Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. :gymshoe: Oh and I'm at the chapter where Lucina returns to reveal her true identity.

Layton vs. Wright

lolol this game

Spoiler: Chapter 2
"This is ridiculous, magic isn't real!" - the attorney who has a stone that lets him see the psychological barriers witnesses put up, and an assistant whose body physically transforms when she calls the spirits of dead people

and don't even get me started on how he and Maya didn't know what puzzles were

I know you lost your memories or whatever but seriously?

A name like "Kira" was almost "Deid Mann" levels of derp I hope I'm not the only one that thought her crazy mode was sexy

DAMN IT ESPELLA CAN YOU POSSIBLY STAY OUT OF TROUBLE FOR MORE THAN FIVE SECONDS? I remember when people used to rail on Maya for that but at least she gave you a case or two between her plights

It probably sounds like I'm just ripping on the game but I'm actually enjoying it, as nonsensical as it is

...I do wish they stuck with the orchestrated version of Cornered for more than the first case, though

It's 1927 in my Victoria II playthrough. A few years ago, I was dragged into a war with Austria-Hungary when my Italian allies decided they wanted to reclaim Venice. The British and Scandinavians joined the war on Austria-Hungary's side. I was able to persuade Germany to join the war on my side. Long story short, Austria-Hungary got crushed. They were more than willing to agree to the terms I presented to them: the cession of Venice to Italy, Croatian independence, disarmament, and the payment of reparations. After that, it was a matter of defeating Scandinavia and the United Kingdom. Though I was able to get a separate peace agreement with Austria-Hungary, the game had decided to make the United Kingdom unable to agree to a separate peace of its own, meaning I would be negotiating terms with Scandinavia, not the United Kingdom. Scandinavia was defeated without too much difficulty, but even after all of their territory in Europe had been captured, they refused to surrender, holding out in the hope that the British would come to their aid. To dash that hope and convince Scandinavia to agree to peace, I had to show Scandinavia that their allies would not help. I had to invade Britain. This was my chance for revenge. The British had abandoned the prospect of Iraqi independence twenty-five years ago so that they could get some territories from the United States. Iraq eventually gained independence without their help, but the damage to the United States had still been done and the insult to the Russian people's sacrifice had still been made. Now, we would have satisfaction. The British threw just about everything they had at my forces when we landed near Aberdeen. The battle to establish a foothold was long; thousands upon thousands of Britons died trying to keep us off their island, but their deaths accomplished nothing, for we were able to drive them back. Unfortunately for the British, the hordes of soldiers dedicated to stopping us were pretty much all they had prepared to defend their lands. After a few hard-earned victories, the island of Great Britain was nearly defenseless. As my forces marched south and drew nearer to London, Scandinavia finally saw the writing on the wall and came forward with a peace offer. In addition to the disarmament and reparations that Austria-Hungary had agreed to, the agreement included the return of Montana, New York, and New England to the United States, as well as a special "screw you" for the country that placed its own territorial ambitions above the liberation of Iraq all those years ago. How appropriate that just as I had no say in the peace treaty that ended the war with the United States, the British had no say in the peace treaty that ended my war with them.

Fire Emblem Awakening. I figured I might as well hit 10k Renown and get the last Regalia weapon. Then beat the game and get that transfer onto my next new game. Right now I am at 7280 Renown. Found out that fighting/recruiting Legacy characters from the Bonus Teams in the Bonus Box is worth 50 Renown and since there are 120 of them. Do the math you get 6k Renown. But I need 2700 more Renown to get to 10k. Soooo I need to fight exactly 54 more legacies..... This should be fun. Since I only do summon 10 per Bonus Team box. and then fight and decline them to join. Then press on forward.

Well, my playthrough of Victoria II is complete. Though the ideals of autocracy and absolute authority espoused by Peter the Great have been phased out in favor of a constitutional monarchy, the Russian Empire has not only survived the turbulence of the early 20th Century, but thrived. The balance of power in the world has begun to shift. Japan and China have grown increasingly powerful while France, Austria-Hungary, and the United Kingdom have grown weak and unstable, all struggling to recover from terrible military defeats. And in the shadows of broken nations, Communists and fascists hope to use the people's anger at their weak leaders as a means of fomenting revolution. Argentina, Paraguay, Haiti, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Albania, New Zealand, and even the mighty United Kingdom have all fallen to Communist rebels. In addition, fascists have taken over in Johore, Mewar, and Romania and are widely supported in China and the Ottoman Empire. The stage is almost set for a clash of ideals. Should I find a good program that can properly convert Victoria II files to Hearts of Iron III files, I think I will pick up where the game left off in Hearts of Iron III.

I bought it a while ago when it was on sale, but started playing 脱出アドベンチャー・魔女の住む館/Escape Adventure: The Witch's Mansion (since I had a long bus ride and whatnot). I feel like it'd be nicer if more characters had sprites, though, since it's just like... gee, I wonder if the only new character with sprites is going to be important or something. The new investigation sections are nice, but it makes me sad I can't check everything out. I also like the references to the first game xD

I'm assuming that everything is going to be brought together by the end of the series... At least I really really hope so, because otherwise I'm going to end up retroactively liking the games a loooot less. I mean, this game just makes Chinami even more suspicious/mysterious... I'd hate it if I never found out what was up with her Dx

At least I really really hope so, because otherwise I'm going to end up retroactively liking the games a loooot less. I mean, this game just makes Chinami even more suspicious/mysterious... I'd hate it if I never found out what was up with her Dx

How's the series in general? It looks sorta interesting, but if it's only a series of escape-the-room scenarios... Then again, Arc System Works has a sale like every other month, so I might just try one the next time it's on sale...

Completed the early DS adventure Free Writer Tachibana Maki a couple of days ago. Definitely the weirdest adventure I've played developed by a map publisher. Then again, it is the only game I've played developed by a map publisher. Good, this game is not, but it has some charming points.

I like it. I mean, in terms of gameplay it isn't really more than a series of escape-the-room scenarios, but there's also a story and visual novel-ish components that go with it. (In contrast, I remember doing the demo of a "3DS Simple Series" escape the room game, and the 'story' was that you went to a karaoke bar that was hosting one of those IRL escape the room games.) There's also the "analysis" segments, which I'm sure you've already seen in the demo(s).

The demos tend to not do much beyond "ESCAPE THE ROOM! ANALYZE THIS! NOW GIVE US MONEY!" but there's plenty of VN-style story between the escape-the-room segments in the full games. (Thinking back on it, the impression I had at the end of the demo of the first game was that Wakaru went deeper and deeper into the 開かずの間 by solving a series of escape-the-room puzzles... In the actual game, she gets out the way she came and goes to homeroom.)

Also I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I really like Wakaru as a protagonist xD

I like the series, and would recommend it. It's divided into relatively cheap, individual episodes, so I'd definitely at least check out 旧校舎の少女 when you get a chance.

(PS: If/when you play 旧校舎の少女, pay attention to the chat log.)

Every time I see there are events for Barracks..... Marribelle is there hitting on EVERY guy but me. I'm here thinking what the hell? why isn't my avatar getting any heart events? As said by The Great Late Rodney Dangerfield "I get no respect."

Except where you are the official Tactician and Commander of the Army :-P

Lessee, Smash Bros, Theathrhythm, some Monster Hunter 3U today most like, Hyrule Warriors and plenty...plenty...of FFXIV.

Though my girlfriend has rapidly outpaced me in FFXIV, maybe she's had more free time? Maybe she's dedicated more free time? Either way I really need to step up a bit or I'll feel like I'm holding her back.

Not to mention that every girl/woman in that game will bang you if you talk enough with them. In real life that would be called stalking but your position as tactician makes it OK. Hooray for abuse of power and ranks! That was a joke obviously

Well Pierre you probably can't beat your girlfriend in every game, especially if she dedicates more time to it. I'm not a pro by any means but I'll be glad to give you some pointers regarding Smash Bros if you're interested.

Pish posh you talk as if my Luigi-play won't decimate whatever weaklings you throw up against me :agent_j:

But nah FFXIV isn't even competitive, well there is PVP but you gotta opt into it and the abilities work differently in it and I hear it's totally unbalanced so I'm not concerned about that. I really shouldn't care if she's better than me at the game anyway when it's co-operative :kristoph:

Just need to overcome a competitive mindset I guess.

In terms of 'tiers' picking the random button will probably give me a better character than Luigi. But seeing is believing so always feel free to PM me if you want to play some matches.

Finally beat Theme Hospital! I think I first played it one or two years after its original release, and while I never played it for very long periods (usually two, three levels and then got rid of it again), I did return to the hectic hospital once every three, four years. But now I've finally beaten it! It's buggy, the AI is absolutely horrible and some missions are really a test of your patience (and they're hard!), but it's oh-so-charming and addictive.
