What do people think of johnathan creek had 5 series 3 specials and maybe a 6th series.

i like the older episodes series 1-4 and the 2 specials, the 3rd special was meh due to leaving windmill and being married to a lady who we never even knew about ( windmill lacking was due to budget issues). The 5th series was ok first episode went all columbo :( and the final episode was back to good old creek.

Over it has good mystries and humor but nothing beats the older episodes.

Thoughts ?

The first two seasons have some downs, but also some brilliant episodes like Danse Macabre and the Black Canary. But I think the quality of the plots starts to be rather inconsistent from season three on. Was not a big fan of season five, though I did like that Renwick decides to develop Jonathan and his wife more as characters. The plots themselves were a bit meh (with the first a mess of storylines presented in a boring way and the second just being boring. The third was the best of the season, but that isn't difficult considering the first two episodes...

2nd episode of series 5 I was fine with and I like series 3 and 4 I think that the series 3 last episode in rather weak and the series 4 final episode wasnt too bad

Still on my "to watch" list, heard great things about it on this very board :shoe: I'd be interested in hearing more opinions about it though, I'm always on the hunt for some great murder mysteries and if some cases are really that brilliant I might make an early christmas present to myself out of it !

Going to put this on my 'to watch'-list, it sounds really interesting and I simply can't wait to watch it! :godot:

Finally got around to watch the (almost) whole show :shoe:

While the first two seasons are noticeably better than the rest, I can't say the difference was as extreme as some make it out to be. I quite liked the whole atmosphere of the show, and Jonathan is a very strong lead. What's a bit of a shame IMO was that none of the case was really mindblowing to me. Overall the tricks were inventive and solid, but too often the very terms of the mystery were deceiving and tricky, ending in disappointment when it was revealed that the solution wasn't what you were looking for in the first place. You could say it compares with the disappointment upon learning a magic trick since you realize there was never any magic or brilliant trick to begin with, but still, I'd like at least once in a while in locked room mysteries to have answers that actually explain how the killer properly entered/exited the room, instead of "he never went into it in the first place/the whole thing was an accident" shenanigans. Some tricks were also extremely far fetched, and others weren't as fleshed out as they could have been.

Ironically, I ended up enjoying Danse Macabre a lot less than I might have, problem being, I figured out the whole solution right when the murder was committed.

So yeah, I'm still hungry for good murder mysteries with spectacular tricks :shoe:
