I've put around eight hours into it so far. Event mode is great, and Smash Tour is fun, if a bit chaotic. 8-Player smash is INSANE.

Unfortunately no, all the fighters, custom moves, gear and the like has to be re-earned in the Wii U version. Granted they give you a few extra fighters to start with, and unlocking the rest is very fast and easy, but it still has to be done over.

Gm... either I'm rusty, the new stages are throwing me off, or the AI in the Wii U version is really good. I got my butt handed to me in a one-on-one fight at 5.0 difficulty even though I can dominate at 7.0 in the 3DS version!

After having seven people over, I can conclude one thing about eight person smash: it's good if you need to play with five people

After a fairly long Smash session on the Wii U version, I can conclude one thing.
I am WAY better with Shulk on the Wii U than I was on the 3DS.

I think we're being made fun of. Well... I might play on an Ω stage if I really like the music but can't stand one or more of the stage's gimmicks. It's generally not my style, though.

It can make Mac nigh unbeatable. Since its a flat stage and he never has to leave the ground to move away from hazards or change platforms to chase an opponent.

Are people still interested in this tournament? Last round should have ended over more than a week ago, but I heard no results through PM or in this thread.

I've not battled anyone and I'm still training for the fight.

I'd like it if tournaments were done but folks need to battle. Still real life has it's problems, I'm still trying to find time to finish a pokemon trade with someone but between work and different time zones it's proving difficult.

Actually, the reason why SquareMelon Bread and I didn't do our matches on Friday last week, was well.... He was online, but not at 3 PM (EST), as we have agreed on the time and day. And he didn't come online at that, when I was online at that time. Still, I'll see if I can't get him to do our matches same day and same time.

Well, if we're going to do a Wii U tournament, let's get the rules decided. Here's what I propose:

  • Round robin (if only to minimize the likelihood of a bout of rotten luck getting someone eliminated). Ties are decided afterwards by everyone with an equal score battling it out.
  • Three stock.
  • No time limit.
  • All items on and at medium occurrence.
  • Choose your character(s) at the beginning and stick with him/her/it/them for the remainder of the tournament.
  • Random stages, but no Ω stages (one Final Destination is enough, thank you).

The rules are okie except for the items which is better if you just have them off. Also Ω would be better for a one on one battle that way the game will be decided on skill rather than using the hazards to your advantage on the level.

Well hazards ain't in everything and "using to your advantage" isn't so much the case as "coping with them".

Plus Mac is too powerful in Omega stages because he never has to leave the ground.

I'd have to look into that more. I don't know enough about them to have a proper opinion on them, so my current stance is to allow them unless people more informed on their advantages and disadvantages generally oppose them.

An Ω stage offers a significant advantage to characters with a good ground game (such as Little Mac) due to the lack of platforms and hazards. People with bad ground games are put at a disadvantage. This is why I support round robin and random stages. It's one thing to be good on a specific stage with no items available. It's another thing entirely to be good on most stages no matter what items show up. The random stages will ensure that our characters are not chosen based on what stages we expect to fight on. Round robin will also ensure that a poor character-stage matchup won't get you knocked out of the tournament (it also eliminates the need for the amount of players to be an exponent of 2). If it were single elimination, I'd be more in favor of a hazard-free stage (but not Final Destination due to the aforementioned flatness). Also, my view is that skill is not just a matter of how well you use your character, but how well you use and respond to your surroundings--which includes unpredictable elements, such as items and an active stage. The items and random stages are there to ensure that it's a test of more than just a player's ability to fare well on one type of stage without any items while the round robin format is there to ensure that everyone plays multiple matches rather than risk being knocked out by a single run of bad luck.

If we're going to have a Wii U tournament, we should probably wait for the tourney mode to be added to the game to make it more organized and easier to access.

That seems to be a fair and reasonable list of rules. Should be doable using the aforementioned tourney mode as well.

I've read up more on customization. Custom moves don't bother me, but I'm leaning against custom equipment due to how it can be arranged in a way that provides an overall boost to stats--unless online play gives players access to all custom equipment rather than just the custom equipment they currently have in their respective copies of the game.

This is getting ridiculous BlueAttorney. From what I can gather is that SMB stood you up at least once. The first round was supposed to end around 4 weeks ago and Pierre is still waiting because of this. If you already have a match set up with SMB then you please announce it in this thread. If you have no plans yet start arranging a match with Pierre. If SMB stood you up for no good reason then you are the winner of the match BA.

SMB if you have any objections you can post them in this thread or PM me. I'm currently making decisions based on the provided information, which can be unfair, but the situation forces me to take steps here.

Gratz Sumguy, I've noted the results down.

That leaves Genodragon and Bad Player. I've heard absolutely nothing regarding your match. Is something in the works? Is one player sending messages and the other not responding? Either one of you fill me in please.

If they get upset at that, they should probably just stop trying to hit you with huge big obvious easy-to-counter moves like the Falcon Punch. Counters deal damage and launch proportionate to the attack received so if you are getting that many kills the attacks must be pretty dumb.

Tell em a way to deal with it is to run up and just grab the counter person. I find folks who are counter-heavy will tend to react with that if they see you sprinting towards them. So they activate counter and are wide open to a grab attack. Then follow through with some body blows and a throw to control the direction you want them to be in.

I'm partial to Shulk right now, but he feels really cheap and dirty that most people I play with tell me to cut the shit right quick. I also like Link and Dr. Mario. I also do well with Pit and Marth, but I don't find myself playing as them that often for some reason :ron:

I'm sooooo happy they got rid of Pit's shitty "HYAYAYAYAYA!" move, though

In addition: Counters always have a really long recovery time. If you know the timing between when the counter ends and the recovery frames you can get a free smash attack in.

I was just lucky the Knee landed in the finale there.

I never thought you would have a lot of training under your belt. More than the amount of training I have under my belt. Still, it was a great match, no doubt.

I guess I need to practice more before I could take part in another Smash Bros tournament.

Good luck in the upcoming matches with Sjibbey, Pierre! :will:
