I haven't actually used gimp before, but if you have an option called "Decrease colour depth", use it to reduce colours automatically, then just clean up the outline of the sprite.

Oh yes! There's something to reduce the amount of colours, what do you mean by cleaning up the outline?

Literally pixel by pixel redraw the outline using appropriate colours. There should be visible outline around each sprite with no anti-aliasing around it (Some inside the sprite is fine).

E.g:
Image
How Gumshoe's got a clear 1px width outline of the same colour around his coat, then one around his hair etc.

Alright! I got it! Thanks for the tip, really appreciate it :butzthumbs:

Update:
My first try on an OC! Her name is Clemmy :edgey: she was meant to be a psychologist, but it ended up looking more like a detective in my opinion, so her occupation shall be decided next time :sadshoe:

I agree with Backburner, it looks great, but the tie looks flat and there's almost no shading for the hair. If you fix that it will look awesome ! :phoenix:

I think it's looking really good! The first thing I saw was you made it more pixelated. It instantly looks more AA styled! I also love the design and colour choices!
Her shoulders are a little uneven though (Her left shoulder's a bit higher)

For a start, your character's hat would cast a shadow across the top of the hair. Try looking at photos of real hair and seeing where/how the lights and darks appear to get a better idea of how it'll work. Good luck.

Nice. I like it. Maybe it could be more tilted but he looks like a bench sprite and if he stood more tilted his hair would hit the gallery XD

With Clemmy... I'm wondering, do you flip the canvas when you're drawing?

The sprites look good. There's definitely a lot of potential here. I'd suggest maybe working on the shading a bit and the shape of some of the custom faces, but overall they look nice.

That's looking really good! With the tie, I think it needs a little shape.
Under the knot, there's a tear-shaped indent in the fabric, and is more pinched in at that spot. But if that's your design choice, then ignore this :bellboy:

If I'm not very much in error, I don't believe clip-on ties have that indentation, so if that's what you're going for, it should be fine.

Yeah, flipping and rotating is a good habit, it would have been easier to see if things like shoulders and stuff are uneven. Still if you look at the one with the corrected shoulders, try find where the spine is and see if you can see anything. Don't forget people have a skeleton. :)

It's the shadow of the hat. Her head is tilted up more but the shadow got lower instead, so it's like a glare XD

The lighting on the 3D models removes some of the facial features drawn, so I guess either leaving it as is, or adding your own is both fine. (I left them with my Ryu sprites).
That Susato sprite looks really good! Really nice work with the details!

Seeing you have created an OC has made me think that you'll also create an AA Fancase like all the other people with spriting talents (For example, mercurialSK, Ropfa, TheDoctor, etc, etc...) :maya:

Speaking of OC's, the girl you made... Clemmy- She kinda looks like an explorer sometimes in my vision. :damon:

Susato is an official character from the new "Great Ace Attorney".

And I am making a fancase! Haven't updated it in years, but most of its sprites are posted in my thread.

Looks good but you are forgetting the MAJOR PART of the sprite - Talking. Without that one, there is a very low chance anyone will use your sprite.

Sorry if I became insensitive or rude. I wanted to give you some tips. :basil:

I think it's more fanart rather than a constructive sprite set. I'm like that too. I'll just make character poses I like because I like 'em :shoe: (I probably shouldn't be speaking on behalf of others, sorry if I'm wrong :sadshoe: )

You're right! xD I made the Susato's sprite because i think she looks really cute cheering Ryu on :edgey: I'm not making it for anyone to use, I'm not making a fangame either... So i don't really see a need to include animations. (And also because it's really tedious to do :payne: )

I only do animation when I have a lot of time to burn, and when i have no new sprite in mind to make.

Speaking of having a lot of time to burn...
Update:
Ryu's objection pose! (with blinking animation lol)
