Every game is about defying fate. (Just that there aren't a whole lot who point out you can't do that)

C-A

Let me rephrase that: throughout the entire game, there's been a constant "war is bad" vibe to it, from the scattered corpses of civilians, to each side crossing the Moral Event Horizon, and the fact that the students only made it that far without breaking down because all their memories of those who died are constantly being wiped. Any mentions of fate/higher beings are left to NPCs that you aren't required to talk to, and that one line in the opening. Then just as the war ends,
Spoiler:
the freakin' apocalypse happens,
the game suddenly takes away various perks that you've had for the entire time, and everyone starts having speeches about how they decide their own fate. Also, the world suddenly has its own version of the Score. Basically, if this wasn't part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy, the final chapter came right the fuck out of left field.
Quote:
Speaking of that wasn't type zero part of that strange fabulous novus crystarrious or something that was meant to be the same universe as 13? Before they scrapped that plan.

It has l'Cie. That's about the only thing that connects them, unless the ending suddenly proves otherwise.

Betting ya you're probably gonna be saying that about most areas, though Bionis's Leg is the first area to have that "wow" factor. Let's just say that this game is one of the few where I'd rather it be night time in later places. By the way, make sure to look for the Top Secret Areas in each place. They have the best views.

Also they give a whopping tonne of experience when you discover them as well. Proper rewards for exploration. I'm waiting to hear whether the 3ds port is adequate (else I'll pick up the original Wii version) but I feel the release of the 3ds version has been strangely quiet.

As said, they don't take place in the same universe. They just share mythology.

New Life NG+ in SMT IV and, boy, does it remind me of the hell that the early game was... then again, better knowledge of the battle system makes things a bit easier. Especially if I remember the opponent's weaknesses and don't have to "Guess until I get it right". (Yeah it took that part from P4... though, of course, P4 wasn't that brutal if I happened to hit an enemy with its resist or repel element because THAT game actually had a defense parameter)

I started replaying Black 2. I'm on the way to the second gym at the moment.

Currently my team is.
Jack the Oshawott
Sheepy the Mareep.

I'm not sure what to put for the rest of my team, i love how they give you so many choices for team members in this version.

As said: mythology not universe.

I forget how hellish the fight against the Minotaur in SMT IV is... :ron:
I regret opting for New Life NG+ and not Reincarnation NG+.

I have heard that the 3ds fixes a weapon damage bug. In the Wii version for example, if your weapon has a damage output between 500 - 800, it will always deal around the 500 area, criticals excluded. The 3ds version fixes it to where it will deal damage within the full range, not just the low one.

Right now i'm at the Bionis's leg. When I first arrived I did notice that "wow" factor when they zoomed out to reveal the Bionis and the Mechonis. What I like most about fighting at night is fighting stronger enemies in order to level up...well expect when the enemy is FREAKING LEVEL 81! I'm only Lv 18 and was fighting a Lv 21 creature when a Lv 81 creature came and just wiped me out in one hit :ron:

Never did notice the differences since I never played the original version of the game. Only thing that would make me get the Wii version is for the better graphics, but I enjoy the 3DS more because I can play it where ever I go. Pierre, I suggest the 3DS version if you care more about portability more than graphics.

Yeah, all the areas are sprinkled with absurdly-high level monsters like that. You won't be able to fight them until endgame. Just steer clear of them and you'll be ok.

Yeah I figure the graphical dip is only slight (I remember the original being no great shakes up close anyway) so I'll get the 3DS version for portability.

Plus that bug fix sounds handy.

Also some high level monsters you can just peacefully walk around because I think they only aggro on sound.

I didn't notice the monster till the last minute when I was seconds away from defeating the lower level one. It wasn't even nearby at first, so it wasn't my fault. :karma-scream: :

Magnis Ardun (level 77) : Hmm just another peaceful day on the plains watching the family grow.

*in distance* "BACK SLASH!"
Daughter Ardun (level 10): Uuyyaggh!

Magnis Ardun: Goodness! That sounded like little Amelia...Zounds! A group of Hom fiends appear to be attacking her! Quickly!

Shulk: "Slit edge!"

Daughter Ardun: Myeeeeeaaaaooo....*drops dead*

Shulk: "I got a good feeling about this!"
Reyn: "Yeaaaaah! Child's play!"

*rumble rumble rumble*

CRUNCH

Magnis Ardun: *pant* Alas...*pant*...I was too late...oh Amelia...your mother will never forgive me. What have I done? :larry:

Still protecting the herd against perceived threats.

Either way those big 'rude' monsters are practically superheroes to the Natural World.

And how many innocent people in the real world have suffered, if not died, because someone mistakenly thought they were a threat? I'll grant that whether or not Shulk and his comrades are a threat depends on the player, but my point still stands.

The animals don't necessarily know Homs aren't a threat. After years of being shifted, domesticated and seeing the weapons/vehicles Homs can build I'd imagine they'd be well aware of the potential danger or at least disruption of the natural balance that Homs represent. It only makes sense to stomp out Homs that intrude upon your territory before they have a chance to establish any kind of presence there.

I suspect you're missing my point. Magnis Arduns observe a "charge first, ask questions later" doctrine when it comes to Homs (as well as some other races that join Shulk's party later, apparently). It would be akin to me being hostile toward another ethnic group simply because I had heard numerous stories of people from that group causing problems.

True but you are not an "animal" General. Arduns do not know any better to attempt to reason with the Homs. Indeed they actively lack the communicative abilities to do so. Assuming that the "Magnis" are charged with defending the herd considering their aggressive tendencies it would make sense for them to act in what they saw as defence of the herd rather than cow away (which would allow an opportunity for compassion on the Homs behalf which would lead down the road to domestication or kinship).

Simply put: Yes it's perfectly possible that Arduns are "racist" towards Homs, but after years of being hunted for various things I'm sure they have every right to be wary and defensive. It might be an erroneous belief but as "defenders" of the Flock, if the Magnis are to be successful defenders of the flock they need to act quickly against perceived threats.

Maybe they just need to kill Shulk because they're a few points away from a level up. You guys look too deep into this, it's all about needs, not racism against Homs. That's the High Entia's jobs.

Ah true, but that was just flamboyant portrayal of a mundane act! The actual events taking place are quite simple really, an animal protecting one of it's own young. Believable and sensible in the animal kingdom.
