The demo picks up where last week’s left off, with Uzukumaru (the soldier) and Sonohigurashi (the old man) taking the stand to testify against Ryuunosuke. The pair testify that they were eating together in the restaurant when a shot rang out, killing Watson. Uzukumaru goes a step further and claims he saw the moment Ryuunosuke shot the victim from behind.

Ryuunosuke’s not all that good at this whole cross-examination thing; his attempts at pressing wind up with conversations about steak and the like. But with a little prodding from Asougi, he presents the photo of the victim to Uzukumaru’s statement that Ryuunosuke shot the victim from behind. But when he tries to explain the contradiction, he gets tongue-tied.

Asougi steps in and lays out the obvious: the victim was shot in the chest, not from behind. Therefore, Uzukumaru cannot have seen the moment of the shot as he claims! Uzukumaru admits he only looked up when he saw the shot (and in the meantime, we see why he’s always got a hand behind his back - it’s to keep his baby son, Kuroumaru, from falling off!)

The two witnesses haven’t given up yet, and testify that Watson was eating alone, so there’s nobody else who could have shot him. There’s even a photo of the single steak on his table, showing only one person was eating there. Ryuunosuke nearly gives up at this, but Asougi again gets him into gear. With a little more pressing, the two uncover Watson’s planner, which fell out of his pocket when he died. Examining it closer, they find he had just had a tooth removed and was barred from eating!

Ryuunosuke presents the planner, and once again gets shouted down by Auchi (Payne). But this time he’s able to come back and, as Asougi puts it, “just say it exactly like you thought it” - the planner clearly shows Watson couldn’t have been eating the steak. A clear contradiction!

The judge asks the next question: if Watson wasn’t eating the steak, who was? Asougi smiles, and says this will be the moment Ryuunosuke begins a grand turnabout… and, much to one of the host’s agony, this is also the moment where the demo ends for the week.

I'm putting down my bet for Asougi being an Edgeworth ancestor after watching that. Something about that body language...
